Magic Kingdom and the (New) Retro Tiki Room

Vickie and I visited the Magic Kingdom to experience the refurbished “Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.” This show is a tribute to the original Tiki Room show that Walt Disney put together in 1963 and which opened at Walt Disney World as the “Tropical Serenade” in 1971. Iago and Zazu have flown the coop, but the other Tiki characters have stayed behind. Furthermore, the upside down Hidden Mickeys at the bottom of several perches inside the Tiki Room are still in place!

We also stopped into the Carousel of Progress for a spin through the last century. I like to check out Dad’s two left shoes in the second scene.

In the third scene, Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat is still perched on the right side of the stage, next to the girl in the shaker machine.

Interesting fact from the last scene: the father is preparing dinner, but only six chairs are around the dining table.

Yes, there are six people on stage in the last scene, but what about Uncle Orville (the seventh person), who is off stage in the bathroom?

Anyway, the Magic Kingdom is always fun for us, especially when Disney leaves our Hidden Mickeys intact!

Steve Barrett is a doctor and Disney nut whose favorite Walt Disney World memory is strolling through the Magic Kingdom with his young son on his shoulders. Not surprisingly, his favorite spot in the World is anywhere there's a Hidden Mickey. He suggests that all visitors take some time to chat with cast members, especially when looking for Hidden Mickeys, as they can enrich your Disney experience and make it even more magical.

  1. Hi,
We go to WDW every December and attend MVMCP at the Magic Kingdom. For the last five years or so, the Carousel of Progress has been closed. Through sleuthing I found a webpage listing what attractions are open for MVMCP and Carousel of Progress isn’t one of them. This year we will enter the park as suggested with our MVMCP tickets at 4:00pm, and run to see if it’s open. It’s always been one of our favorites and we are so sad to miss it each year. Any idea why it’s closed during MVMCP?
    Thanks

  2. And who is the little girl in the first scene helping the mother with the laundry? After that scene, she is never seen or heard from again!
