Flower Power Concert: Jose Feliciano

My wife, Julie, and I spent the day at Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival. And, that means a Flower Power concert at the American Garden Theater in front of the American Adventure.

Performing tonight was Jose Feliciano. Although Jose Feliciano has performed at Epcot a number of times over the years we’ve never had the opportunity to see him. So, we were really looking forward to seeing him perform.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Jose Feliciano, he is a Latin/R&B/pop singer who had a number of hit songs starting in the 60’s. He’s an incredible guitarist along with his vocal talents. Anyway, some of his hit songs are: Light My Fire and the holiday hit Felíz Navidad.

Tip: for those of you who don’t recognize songs by their title (like me) you can go to either YouTube.com and find a video or a website like Amazon.com and look up the greatest hits album. Amazon will allow you to play a few seconds of each song; just enough to help you recognize (or not) the song.

Because of the cold weather we only stayed for the first set, so I don’t know if he changed things up from set to set. During the one set that we were at he played a wide range of songs from a really great version of Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean”, The Mama and Papa’s “California Dreaming and a brand new song from his yet to be release new album. Also, Jose did sing a couple Latin songs in Spanish, much to the delight of those Spanish speaking guests in the audience.

Julie and I really enjoyed this concert! Jose is a great performer and he had a fantastic band backing him up. He interacted with the audience by providing a bit of humor from time to time, however, just enough to show his personality and not take away from him performing. As a performer he was outstanding. Boy can he play that guitar! If you ever have a chance to see him perform don’t miss it; he’s a great show!

By the way, even with the cold weather the theater was at capacity. Here’s a few pictures from tonight’s performance for you to enjoy.

  2. My wife Julie and I saw him in the late 70’s at a nightclub in Dearborn Michigan. It was a very intimate setting – just a couple of hundred people.

He played for about 90 minutes and is still one of the most enjoyble concerts I have ever been to.

My son saw him at Epcot last year during the Flower and Garden festival while he was participating in Disney’s College program and also was impressed with the set he saw.
