I Can’t Believe People Still Think This BIZARRE Myth About Disney World Is True

The internet is rampant with conspiracy theories, but even before the internet, there were plenty of rumors about Disney World that really made us scratch our heads.

Cinderella Castle

You’d think with the wealth of information available at most of our fingertips in this day and age, people wouldn’t still believe these lies, but somehow — they do. These are just some of the most bizarre things we can’t believe people still believe about Disney World.

Disney World is only for kids

When Walt Disney got the idea to create Disneyland and later Disney World, he wanted one thing to be very clear — that it was a place for kids and adults alike. And, sure, while “Disney Adults” have become more and more prominent over the years, there’s still the belief out there that Disney is only for kids.

Along those same lines, people believe that if you don’t have kids, you have no business vacationing at Disney parks — which is just straight-up untrue. Have you ever seen a group of child-free millennials drinking around the world in EPCOT? You might as well be on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

Harry Potter Land is there

We know, we know. How can people think that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is at Disney World instead of Universal Studios Orlando? Granted, if you’re new to this whole “theme park” thing, we can’t really blame you — but it’s true.

Hogwarts at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Our reporters are in the parks every single day and you’d be shocked at just how often they overhear people asking where Harry Potter World is. Unfortunately, you won’t find it at Disney World — but it’s just up the road at Universal, so you could always plan a day trip over there if you wanted to!

Disney controls the weather

This is one of those urban legends that just doesn’t seem to go away. Despite how long this rumor has been around, no — Disney does not control the weather surrounding its theme parks.

There are no weather domes or biospheres, and despite being able to control quite a big chunk of your experience — even Disney hasn’t quite figured that one out just yet.

The turkey legs aren’t turkey

We’ve never been more glad for a rumor to be NOT true! Those giant turkey legs you see people walking around with at Disney World are actually turkey. Somehow, a theory got started that they were actually emu legs — probably because of how big they are.

But, we’re happy to share that this is NOT the case. We even have a former Cast Member on our team who used to make and sell these bad boys, and we can confirm that they are not emu, not ostrich, not chicken — but turkey!

The safari animals aren’t real

Okay, we can see why this one might be confusing. After all, there are multiple Disney rides that do involve animatronic animals. Here’s the thing, though — Kilimanjaro Safaris at Animal Kingdom isn’t one of them. Yes, those are real, living, breathing safari animals out there!

Kilimanjaro Safaris

Disney World boasts hundreds of different species and animals, and you can see all kinds on Kilimanjaro Safaris at Animal Kingdom, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and in the Seas Pavilion at EPCOT! But, this is still a fun trick to play on your unsuspecting family members — just don’t let them believe it’s true for too long!
