My Coworkers Hate This Ride But I (Not So) Secretly LOVE It

Justice for all underrated Disney World rides!

Family vacation!!

Consider this an official plea for the entire universe to realize just how amazing these rides actually are. And, as someone whose job it is to go to Disney World, I’ve been on my fair share of unpopular rides. But, there’s one my coworkers hate that I not so secretly love.

Consider this my official Ode to Alien Swirling Saucers in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This rotating “trailer hitch” style attraction may be dedicated to the Pizza Planet Aliens from Toy Story, but I personally think it could rebranded as “Fry’s Favorite Ride” instead. Okay, that might be a stretch — but I do love this ride!

It’s far more intense than people think — more than Mad Tea Party in Magic Kingdom or Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree at Disney California Adventure. Anytime I ride it by myself I end up sliding all over the place! Not to mention, those space jazz remixes of Toy Story songs as the soundtrack? Utter perfection.

And, when you don’t have to wait in a long line for a ride at Hollywood Studios, I consider that a win — which is the case most of the time with Alien Swirling Saucers. But, it seems as though my AllEars teammates don’t quite agree with me!

Emma thinks it can be a fun ride if you don’t mind all the spinning, but it’s not worth waiting waiting more than say, 20 minutes. Our girl DFB Cassie felt the same!

Breedlove’s main gripe is that for some reason when he gets in line for this ride, the wait time ends up being even longer than what’s posted! But, he does admit that it’s a cooler ride than it often gets credit for.

Quincy thinks it has the same impact as Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree at Disney California Adventure — that sort of uncontrollable fit of laughter from the pit in your stomach sort of feeling. Whether you think that’s a good thing or not is entirely up to you.

Sage feels that it’s entirely skippable — especially if you can find similar rides at your local fair! The only thing that makes this ride redeemable, he says, is the Toy Story theming.

But, let’s be real here — twirling alien saucers and uncontrollable giggling sounds pretty fun to me! If you’ve never experienced Alien Swirling Saucers at Hollywood Studios, consider giving it a try on your next trip — and tell ’em Fry Bucket sent ya!
