NEWS: Popular Magic Kingdom Roller Coaster Closed at Start of Busy Holiday Weekend

It’s the start of a busy holiday weekend in Disney World!

Hello there!

Many spring breaks are wrapping up today, others are just starting, and schools and businesses are closed for Good Friday. Yep, it’s the start of Easter weekend — and with the multi-park option for Genie+ selling out before the gates at Magic Kingdom even opened, we expect heavy crowds!

And right now, one of the most popular rides to “Rope Drop” (rush to as soon as you are let into the park for a shorter wait) at Magic Kingdom is closed.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is a super popular, swinging, family roller coaster in Fantasyland. It also generally posts some of the highest standby wait times in Disney World. And today, those waits could be even longer than usual once the ride comes back up.

Cast Members working the front of the ride informed rope droppers this morning that the ride is down, and it will likely be a “several-hour delay” before it comes back up. As of about 2PM Eastern, the ride remains down. This is causing a big problem for Quincy — as she needs this ride for a challenge she’s filming today!

If this ride is in your plans today, you may want to do some re-arranging. We recommend trying to ride Seven Dwarfs Mine Train later this evening — waits often go down later in the evening, especially close to the fireworks.

Of course, the ride may not come up at all today, and we know that can be disappointing when it’s on your “must-do list.” We give you permission to get an extra treat today if you don’t get to ride. 🫶

We don’t think that any Individual Lightning Lane rides were sold for this ride today, because when Quincy tried to buy one at 7:02AM, there were none available. So, Disney must have known the ride wouldn’t be able to open on time.

But if you bought an Individual Lightning Lane for this ride and it is still down when your time comes around, there will be Cast Members at the front of the ride who can assist you with rescheduling your ride. Or, you can check with a Guest Experiences Cast Member — they’re stationed at spots around the park under blue umbrellas.
