You DON’T Want To See These Deranged Disney Animatronics (But You Can’t Look Away)

A lot of Disney’s animatronic creations are beyond impressive.

Rise of the Resistance

However, some of them, especially some older ones, fall a little too far on the side of “scary” rather than impressive. Don’t believe us? Prepare yourselves, we’re about to get WEIRD.

DAD LOST HIS HAND!!

The first one that came to mind is usually a perfectly normal animatronic on the Carousel of Progress. However, on one fateful day in 2020 (not the one you’re thinking of), the father character in the final scene LOST HIS HAND?!

Needless to say, it was a VERY interesting ride through that day!

‘it’s a small world’

Now WAIT one second, we’re not saying ALL of the characters in ‘it’s a small world’ (although some people would argue that they’re all a little unsettling), but there’s a select few that make us nervous. Nervous like we’re in that one scene from the first Kingdom Keepers book where all the dolls come alive and chase the main characters (just us? Okay, nevermind).

“it’s a small world”

Specifically, we’re thinking of the little guys made out of straw in the Mexico section…that have GLOWING RED EYES. We’re not kidding, they’re there! Take an extra close look the next time you ride, and you’ll see what we mean.

Tony Solaroni and Mrs. Solaroni

Did you feel that chill roll through the room? Yep, that’s what thinking of Tony Solaroni and Mrs. Solaroni does to us.

These are characters from Pan Galactic Pizza Port in Tomorrowland in Tokyo Disneyland. We love the…uniqueness of their design, but they do scare us.

The Yeti in B Mode

Listen, we love Disco Yeti (aka B mode Yeti who doesn’t move) in Expedition Everest, and we’d rather have him than A mode Yeti who would have destroyed the ride, but this guy is FREAKY.

Disco Yeti!

He’d actually be less scary if he DID move in our opinion. Then he’d do what you’d expect a Yeti to do (you know, try to kill you), but if those lights didn’t flash and he just stood there…yikes.

The Alien From ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter

Back in 1995 when this ride officially opened (it actually opened in 1994 but Eisner didn’t like it, so he ordered it to close to make some changes), the alien in ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter was TERRIFYING.

Alien Encounter

Yeah, this wasn’t for the faint hearted. It was a little TOO scary, which is why the ride closed in 2003.

Stitch in Stitch’s Great Escape

ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter closed, and was pretty quickly replaced by Stitch’s Great Escape in the same ride building in 2004. But it was Stitch, so it couldn’t have been too scary, right? WRONG. IT WAS TERRIFYING.

Stitch’s Great Escape

He was MASSIVE, and with the way that the ride went, he wasn’t presented in a cute and cuddly way. No, he was an alien who was escaping, and everyone was panicking. And now, currently this ride building is being used for…nothing. But honestly, we might prefer that.

Buzzy…After He Was Abandoned For A Decade

We just HAD to bring up Buzzy, because truly, not only did he look pretty scary after being ABANDONED for a decade. Cranium Command closed in EPCOT in 2007, and was left to rot (literally). In 2018, an urban explorer broke into Cranium Command (DON’T BREAK INTO DISNEY) and saw Buzzy and Hypothalamus from the ride were marked to head to the archives. Later that year, Buzzy was supposedly stolen.

However, before he was “stolen,” the guy looked rough. Well, we would, too, if we’d been left hanging in the air for 11 years, but these pictures are SCARY (and sad — we miss you Buzzy!).
