Not worth it
Pros:
Jiko salad, filet mignonCons:
The short ribs: mine arrived burnt, dry and I had the bad cut. This was the same as I had the previous year. Obviously I didn’t learn my lesson.Reviewed by Anonymous Review Date: 09/26/2023

I had heard this place is one of the best dining locations on property, so I went in with high expectations. The food was good, but I was a bit underwhelmed with the whole experience. I got the lamb shank, and personally found it to be good but not great. I wasn't the biggest fan of thr sauce. The best part was the lemom potatoes. The offerings were really unique and I ate things I wouldn't have had the opportunity to elsewhere, but were I to make dining choices again, I wouldn't return to Jiko.
Pros:
Quite unique and special menu items to choose from. Atmosphere classy.Cons:
For the amount I enjoyed the meal, it felt too expensive. Also, the dumela was a let down for me. It was mostly bitter and sour and while it was certainly unique I wouldn't order it again.Reviewed by Anonymous Review Date: 04/05/2022

Unfortunately it didn’t live up to the hype. We personally thought it was not worth the price compared to the food and experience you get at other places like Topolino’s and Citricos
Pros:
Mac & cheese was deliciousCons:
Not the best steak on property, not the best price, service was okay, limited drink options if you don’t drink wineReviewed by JanelleB Review Date: 04/30/2020

This used to be a favorite restaurant but our last couple visits have not been great. The service varies and the menu changes leaves little for me to want. If you want to eat at AKL, I recommend Boma or Sanaa instead.

I had the filet mignon. The steak was fine, but you got hardly any vegetables...very small sides...I also has the wild boar appetizer...ridiculous price for about little bites....your money is better spent elsewhere.
Pros:
The dining experience was just okay..nothing to write home about.Cons:
price; size of portions....Reviewed by ChallengerHK1 Review Date: 02/05/2019

I struggled with this rating. The food at Jiko was outside, with flavors both subtle and exotic. I would put it on par with he California Grill.
The problem is the portions. I'm used to a Disney mode, where the portions are very generous. I've been to Jiko before, and it fit that mode. On this visit, it was more California cuisine, with immense plates and tiny little portions placed "artistically" on the plate.
Somewhere in the middle would probably be good. As it is, with the very high price of dining here, I don't think I got a good value.
Pros:
Excellent food Excellent decorCons:
Small portions Low value given the high priceReviewed by Arden Review Date: 03/12/2013

Food was acceptable but average. Was expecting more based on reading previous reviews. Service was slow and waitress did not seem that interested in our table, we had to keep trying to get her attention. We were on the dining plan with a large group, perhaps the mandatory tip amount impacted her motivation.
Pros:
AtmosphereCons:

Service was great, our waitress was knowledgeable and made great recommendations and described items when we had questions. Both my wife and I do not like tons of salt on our food. Both the Fish(Grouper) and my Steak and Mac and Cheese were very salty to our tastes. The food it self was great, just a lot more salt than we are used to. I also did not like the Green Crust of spices on the filet. It overpowered the demi glaze and added nothing to the taste and presentation.
Pros:
Great wine selections you cannot get anywhere else. The Pinotage we had was excellent and reasonable priced (Painted Wolf The Den). Desert was great and both the fish and filet were cooked to perfection (except fro the salt level0Cons:
Mac and cheese was very dry. Expensive entrees, but not out of line with all the other Disney Premium restaurantsReviewed by TeacherManJoe Review Date: 05/21/2022

We went to Jiko on our honeymoon and felt like we understood why it is so well-loved by many in the community. The food was excellent and offered some truly unique eats that really made the experience feel special. The atmosphere felt classy without being stuffy. Small details and touches can be found all throughout that add to the ambience. We LOVED the African inspired décor and thought that the cultural elements included here were beautiful and joyful.
With all of that glowing commentary being said, we did find that Jiko was not necessarily a place that we felt like we absolutely had to go back to. The food was excellent. The service was top notch. The menu was unique and varied. But we also did not find anything that felt truly craveable or like it left us wanting more. This is not an insult or a reason for others to be turned away by the idea of it. However, it just was not somewhere that would be on the top of our minds for a revisit.
