SeaWorld’s 50th celebration is a Sea of Surprises

Lighthouse%20with%2050th%20treatment.jpg
Eighteen-month celebration kicks off on March 21, 2014 at all three SeaWorld parks

Orlando, Fla. (March 21, 2014) - Today SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment™ launched a multi-park celebration to commemorate a key event in the company's history: the opening of the original SeaWorld® in March 1964 on Mission Bay in San Diego.

SeaWorld Orlando opened nine years later, on December 15, 1973.

SeaWorld's 50th Celebration features a Sea of Surprises™ throughout an 18-month celebration highlighting the most memorable SeaWorld experiences in San Diego, Orlando and San Antonio.

For nearly five decades, SeaWorld has surprised and amazed guests with unique entertainment, thrilling rides and up-close encounters with animals. During SeaWorld's 50th Celebration visitors will be invited to take part in the excitement through new interactive experiences, shows and pathway performances, even more up-close animal encounters throughout the park and "The SeaWorld Surprise Squad" treating guests with prizes every day.

SeaWorld Orlando's 50th Celebration Sea of Surprises™ Highlights

Park pathways come to life with spontaneous entertainment. "Bubble Blowout" is sure to be a guest favorite with a fantastical vehicle creating bubbles of all sizes and shapes throughout Shamu's Happy Harbor. Engaging performances with sea-inspired costumes and props will pop up at unexpected moments to surprise guests throughout the day, like "Splash Dance," near Nautilus Theater.

On June 21, a new nighttime Shamu show, "Shamu's Celebration: Light Up The Night", debuts. The high energy show will include new, original music and production elements, as well as new killer whale behaviors.

The "SeaWorld® Surprise Squad" will roam SeaWorld Orlando on a daily basis giving away, at random, prizes and special gifts, including exclusive access to rides, behind-the-scenes experiences, Shamu-themed merchandise, reserved show seating and more.*

SeaWorld guests are often greeted by an animal ambassador, many of whom were orphaned or injured in the wild and given a second chance thanks to the SeaWorld Animal Rescue Team. As part of SeaWorld's 50th Celebration, there will be more surprise encounters with animal ambassadors throughout the day.

Share the wonder of close-up encounters with amazing animal friends and learn how SeaWorld cares for the natural world at the all-new SEA Garden. Completely re-designed, the SEA Garden is where guests can learn more about SeaWorld's animals, many of them rescued, including eagles, spoonbills, opossums, and more.

To showcase SeaWorld's commitment to the environment and passion for protecting the ocean, four giant sea life sculptures will be displayed at the SEA Garden. SeaWorld commissioned environmental art group The Washed Ashore Project for a collection of larger-than-life sea-themed sculptures - many weighing more than half a ton. The material used to create these pieces comes from the billions of pounds of garbage - mostly plastics - that wind up in our oceans. These amazing works of art point to the urgent need to protect marine animals from such dangers and preserve their ocean habitats. On display at SeaWorld Orlando are a parrot fish, sea horse, sea anemone reef and octopus.

As part of its continuing commitment to new technology that enhances the guest experience, SeaWorld's 50th Celebration will include new ways for fans to connect to the parks and each other though digital devices. The parks will be launching a variety of enhancements, from interactive apps that provide fun new ways to experience the park to new games and video content.

SeaWorld Designs New Conservation Minded Cup

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE AND ... REFILL SEAWORLD DESIGNS NEW CONSERVATION-MINDED CUP TO INTERACT WITH COCA-COLA FREESTYLE
SeaWorldReusableCup2.jpg
Custom Technology Engages Guests on a Personal Level

Orlando, Fla., May 14, 2013 - This penguin-shaped cup may look cute and cuddly, but it has a noble purpose: encourage guests to help the planet, one refill at a time.

In conjunction with SeaWorld® Orlando's epic new attraction and ride Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin™ opening Memorial Day weekend, SeaWorld has created the Cup That Cares™ -- a new reusable cup program with a twist of technology. The innovative, interactive cup was designed specifically to connect with Coca-Cola Freestyle beverage dispensers in the new realm.

The new Cup That Cares engages guests in a personalized manner to reuse materials and reduce their carbon footprint. An RFID chip embedded in each Cup That Cares interacts with software at Coca-Cola Freestyle® dispensers to calculate and tell guests how they are being more environmentally responsible by choosing to reuse.

Plus, SeaWorld will donate $1 from each Cup That Cares purchase to the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens® Conservation Fund, a not-for-profit foundation that helps protect wildlife around the world.

SeaWorldReusableCup1.jpg

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Technology embedded in the Cup That Cares calculates the amount of CO2 each guest saves from entering the atmosphere when they choose to reuse the cup for refills at Coca-Cola Freestyle machines in Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin. With each refill at the designated machines, exclusive software developed by Coca-Cola and SeaWorld serves up an onscreen message that is customized to that guest's Cup That Cares history. The message thanks the guest for choosing to reuse, tracks how many refills the Cup That Cares has been used for, and calculates the running total of CO2 the guest has saved from entering the atmosphere.

Each refill with a reusable cup prevents the emission of approximately 27 grams of CO2.

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE:

There are two options, both available exclusively in the new Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin attraction at SeaWorld Orlando:

Cup That Cares souvenir reusable cup - available at the two beverage stations inside the attraction for $9.99 - is adorned with photos of Puck™ and his penguin family. Puck is the hero penguin character featured throughout the new realm,

Create A Cup That Cares - Guests may build their own personalized penguin-shaped character cup by choosing from more than 40 accessories such as eyes, hair, glasses, hats, bow tie, necklaces and even miniature Shamu ice cream bars and SeaWorld shopping bags. The Create A Cup That Cares will be sold in the Antarctica gift shop, and includes a free first fill at the nearby Antarctica beverage stations. Create A Cup That Cares experience starts at $15.95 with the option to add accessory items.

"Just as penguins do within their colonies, humans also can band together to make a big difference through small actions," said Dan Brown, Chief Operating Officer of SeaWorld, Discovery Cove and Aquatica Parks. "We see great potential with this new program because it encourages guests to be more aware of their actions - and reduce their carbon footprint -- in an easy, fun and innovative way. Each step may be small, but it all adds up when we work together."

Refills throughout the park for both Cup That Cares options are $.99 each.

PLUS -- NEW custom Coca-Cola flavor served up only at Antarctica

The Cup That Cares concept was developed in partnership with the park's beverage partner Coca-Cola, whose Coca-Cola Freestyle dispensers offer guests more than 100 different beverage brands. Also only in Antarctica, Coca-Cola Freestyle will offer an all-new, vanilla-infused choice -- South Pole Chill™.

For more information, visit www.SeaWorldOrlando.com

SeaWorld Orlando Returns 14 Sea Turtles to Canaveral National Seashore

SeaWorld Orlando Returns 14 Sea Turtles to Canaveral National Seashore

April 10, 2013 (Orlando) - 14 sea turtles -- 11 Kemps Ridley and three loggerheads -- were returned to Canaveral National Seashore in Titusville, Fla., this morning after rehabilitating at SeaWorld Orlando for several months.

These sea turtles were brought to SeaWorld Orlando on December 23, 2012, by a U.S. Coast Guard Airplane, after being rescued just off the coast of Cape Cod, Mass., due to symptoms they suffered from cold stress. After being medically cleared for today's return, the park's Animal Rescue Team transported the 14 turtles to Canaveral National Seashore.

The Kemps Ridley sea turtles ranged in length from 9-13 inches and weighed between 5-13 pounds while the loggerhead sea turtles were about 2-feet long and weighed between 65-85 pounds.

In collaboration with the government and other members of accredited stranding networks, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment operates one of the world's most respected programs to rescue ill and injured marine animals, with the goal to rehabilitate and return to the waters. SeaWorld animal experts have helped more than 22,000 animals in need - ill, injured, orphaned and abandoned - for more than four decades.

So far this year, SeaWorld Orlando has rescued nine turtles and returned 20.

If you see injured sea turtles, you can help by calling the FWC hotline at 1(888) 404-3922 or by dialing *FWC on a cellular device.

SeaWorld Orlando Returns Manatee to Central Florida Waters after Rehabilitation

February 6, 2013 (Orlando, Fla.) - A manatee was returned to the St. Johns River in Blue Spring State Park this morning after rehabilitating at SeaWorld Orlando for the last year.

SeaWorld-manatee.jpg

"Slip" was brought to SeaWorld Orlando on January 4, 2012, after being rescued from Crescent Lake near Palatka, Fla., due to symptoms he suffered from cold stress.

After he was medically cleared for today's return, the park's Animal Rescue Team transported the 21-year old manatee to Blue Spring State Park, an area well-known for its manatee population.

Slip's health was evaluated upon arrival at the park by SeaWorld animal experts and Sea2Shore Alliance. The 1,100-pound manatee was then carried by more than a dozen people into the spring, where a group of manatees were seen swimming nearby.

So far this year, SeaWorld Orlando has rescued two manatees and returned one.

All manatee rescue footage produced by SeaWorld under FWS Permit Number MA7701911.
If you see injured marine animal, you can help by calling the FWC hotline at 1(888) 404-3922 or by dialing *FWC on a cellular device.

SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment Launches New Mobile Websites and Ticketing

SeaWorld_Logo.jpg
SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment Launches New Mobile Websites
and Ticketing for SeaWorld and Busch Gardens Parks

Orlando, Fla. (Jan. 17, 2013) -SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment launched new mobile websites for the three SeaWorld and two Busch Gardens parks last week, providing guests and fans with a convenient and easy way to plan their vacations and purchase and redeem tickets directly from their mobile devices.

SeaWorld and Busch Gardens are some of the first in the theme park industry to effectively use mobile sites with geo-location capabilities. When a guest is near one of the SeaWorld or Busch Gardens parks and connects to the website, the guest's phone will immediately default to driving directions. However, if the guest is actually in the park, the site will automatically default to a park map so they can find their next adventure without missing a beat. Receiving the most relevant content, products, offers and promotions based on their location to the parks are just some of the many intuitive features mobile users can now experience.

"These mobile sites have been in development for several months and we are excited about the incredibly positive response we've already seen from guests," said Anne Fischer, Director of Interactive Marketing for SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. "With ever-increasing mobile traffic to our parks, guests can expect more exciting mobile websites, products, apps and systems designed to make their lives more convenient in the near future."

The sites provide guests with a simplified mobile purchase experience with images, text and easy steps for the entire process. Once the purchase process is complete, guests will receive their digital admission ticket directly on their phone, allowing them to proceed directly to the front gate for entry to the park.

Unlike other theme park mobile sites, guests can not only purchase single day tickets, but also multi-park and season passes, allowing guests to save money and time. Based on the tickets purchased, the sites will suggest additional experiences and adventures, including behind-the-scenes tours, up-close animal interactions or dining options to make their visit to the park even more memorable.

The new sites were designed to work with some of the most popular cell phone operating systems, including Apple, Android and Windows.

SeaWorld Orlando Receives Second Round of Cold-Stress Sea Turtles from the New England Coast

(December 23, 2012) Orlando, Fla. - Earlier this evening, SeaWorld Orlando's Animal Rescue Team received four loggerhead sea turtles flown in on a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) aircraft from the New England Aquarium. A mass stranding of hypothermic sea turtles occurred along the Cape Cod coast several weeks ago; this is the second shipment of turtles for SeaWorld to take in and rehabilitate.

The sea turtles were received by SeaWorld aquarists at the Orlando Executive Airport and then transported to SeaWorld Orlando's rehabilitation facility where the park's veterinarian and aquarium team quickly evaluated the sea turtles; they will perform a more extensive evaluation in the morning.

The mass stranding is attributed to an unseasonably warm November that delayed the turtles' exit from Cape Cod Bay to warmer waters. When the ocean temperatures dropped quickly, the sea turtles developed hypothermia and washed ashore. Once water temperatures are warm enough, the turtles will be returned to their natural habitat.

Distressed turtles are often found in Florida waters, too. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission requests for those who see stranded, distressed or dead sea turtles to call Wildlife Alert at 1-888-404-3922.

Participating agencies and organizations include: U.S. Coast Guard, NOAA Fisheries Northeast Region Stranding Network, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, New England Aquarium, Sea World Orlando, Mote Marine Lab, Volusia Marine Science Center, Loggerhead Marinelife Center, and the Florida Aquarium.

Vacationers with Food Allergies Now Have New and Personalized Dining Options at SeaWorld, Busch Gardens and Sesame Place Parks

Orlando, Fla. (October 10, 2012) - As many as 15 million Americans suffer from a food allergy. SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment has introduced this fall a new line of allergy-friendly dining initiatives for guests at its 10 parks including SeaWorld, Busch Gardens and Sesame Place. These initiatives range from personalized service to new menu options.

SeaWorld_Dining2.jpg

"We serve millions of guests each year and are committed to provide each a great experience. For families with allergen concerns, we understand how challenging it can be to safely dine out, especially while on vacation," said Jim Atchison, President and Chief Executive Officer of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. "Our new initiatives 'serve up' a family experience that everyone can enjoy."

The company partnered with the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN™) to educate and train more than 6,000 culinary employees to assist guests with allergen needs. With more than 22,000 members worldwide, FAAN is a trusted source of information, programs, and resources related to food allergy and anaphylaxis.

The new initiatives include:

• Increased personal attention to ensure the safety of each meal. Park restaurant managers and supervisors will work one-on-one with guests and oversee the preparation of each allergen-friendly meal from start to finish. "Chef Cards," filled out in advance by guests to outline the foods to avoid, are handed to a chef before the preparation of the meal.

• All park restaurants are equipped and trained to take care of guests with allergen needs.

• More menu options, ranging from gluten-free pizza to an allergen-friendly Shamu-shaped chocolate bar, enhance the experience for dining guests. For those on the go, the parks also provide prepackaged snacks such as cookies from companies that specialize in allergen-friendly foods including Divvies and Gluten Free to Go.

• To help guests plan, detailed information on allergen-friendly services and helpful safety tips can be found online at each park's web site. Guests can also download the Chef Cards and fill it out prior to their visit. At the parks, in-park educational handouts are available.

SeaWorld_Dining1.jpg

"We commend SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment for implementing a comprehensive food allergy training program, which we were pleased to help carry out," said John Lehr, FAAN's Chief Executive Officer. "Families often exhaustively research vacation options that will keep their loved ones with food allergies safe. SeaWorld has taken extra steps to educate its employees about the risks that families managing food allergies face on a daily basis."

For more information on the parks' allergen-free efforts visit www.seaworld.com, www.buschgardens.com and www.sesameplace.com. For additional resources about food allergies from FAAN, visit www.foodallergy.org.
