ESPN Wide World of Sports Named ‘Business of the Year’ at SPORTYS

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Central Florida Sports Commission recognized ESPN Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World Resort as “Business of the Year” last month at the inaugural Central Florida SPORTYS Awards. The event honored deserving local athletes, coaches, employees and businesses, ranging from amateur to professional, throughout Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia Counties.

SPORTYS award winners are selected by a blue ribbon panel of Central Florida media representatives through two rounds of voting. Other finalists for “Business of the Year” included Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and Bright House Sports Network. Mike Millay, director of sports programs and events at Walt Disney World Resort, accepted the award for ESPN Wide World of Sports.

“It is an honor to be recognized amongst all of the great sports businesses in Central Florida,” Mike said. “I accept this award on behalf of the 250-plus Cast Members that work hard to create magical sports moments for our athletes, as well as our key partners like the AAU, USSSA and Pop Warner who have made Central Florida the home to so many great events.”

Three Central Florida Sports Hall of Fame inductees were also honored including: 13-year NBA player and current NBA coach Glenn “Doc” Rivers, long-time CEO of Florida Citrus Sports Chuck Rohe and five-time NFL Pro Bowler Ricky Watters.
