There’s been a lot of attention surrounding the reimagined DreamWorks kid’s zone at Universal Studios in Orlando ever since Shrek’s Swamp meet and greet was discontinued. Now that we’ve seen a bit more of Shrek’s new swamp local taking shape, we should have only guessed that it would be a matter of time until Shrek went mainstream again!

If you accidentally fell in love with Shrek and his quirky band of misfits or maybe listened to that epic soundtrack on repeat for hours (don’t ask us how we know this was a thing), then we may have the best news you’ve heard in a while. We know it was great news for Quincy, our resident Shrek extraordinaire!

Quincy with Holiday Shrek and Fiona

According to Universal Pictures, Shrek 2 is coming BACK to select theaters on April 12th, 2024! This film will be celebrating its 20th anniversary since its initial box office release and because of that milestone, DreamWorks and Universal Pictures are re-releasing the movie for a limited engagement.

If you’re not already familiar with the follow-up film to the self-titled, Shrek, Shrek 2 follows the story of Shrek’s quest to *gulp* meet Princess Fiona’s parents before they get married. However, he and his trusty pal, Donkey, quickly learn that while the fairytales might be plenty in Far Far Away (the land where Fiona’s parents are King and Queen), all may not be as it seems and some handsome competition from the most unlikely of characters may rear its ugly true colors.

This cinematic masterpiece is also the only one of the Shrek films that gave us a glimpse at what Shrek would look like if he wasn’t an oger… spoiler: he’s actually quite handsome!

If that doesn’t sound like a banger to you trust us when we say you’ll be crooning to a sweet soundtrack filled with bops like “Holding Out For A Hero”, “Changes”, “Funkytown”, and a few other original songs that we have to admit just slap for this film.

If you’re ready to seize your chance at reliving the nostalgia of watching this film in theaters again (or ready to watch it for the first time with someone else who may not be as familiar), keep watch over your local theater’s showtimes for more details.
