It’s Official. Gen Z Is Better at Booking Flights — Here’s the Proof.

WHO’S READY TO FLY TO DISNEY WORLD? We are!

Magic Kingdom

Are you hyped? We’re hyped. Some of the AllEars team is gearing up for the first Disney World trip they’ve taken in a while, while others are getting ready for the first trip in about 12 hours (the difference between writers and reporters, right?). Some of us have to fly to and from, and therefore we know TONS about booking flights to Disney World. Allow us to share some of our greatest tips with you!

Make Airport Security Your You-Know-What

Airport security is often one of, if not THE MOST, stressful part of traveling. The waiting, stressing about if you somehow packed something illegal that you don’t even own, the WAITING, and then the fact that TSA guidelines seem to change with every single airport you go to (take off your shoes, JUST KIDDING, take your laptop out–NO DON’T! It’s the worst.).

Security lines at Orlando International Airport

But there is a way to make it easier! For some larger airports such as Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta and MCO in Orlando, you can check the security wait times online hours before your flight! This will give you a good idea of when you need to leave. If you’re flying out of MCO, you can also choose to book a time with MCO Reserve (for FREE!) to help you bypass security by telling them ahead of time when you’ll be there. Trust us, it’s worth it.

If Your Flight is Short, Book On A Budget

Hear us out — if your flight to Disney World is less than 2 hours long (which is really only like 1.5 hours actually up in the air), save as much money as you possibly can and book with a budget airline.

American Airlines Plane

Seriously, throw comfort to the wind. You can survive 2 hours of not being the most comfortable if it means you save $200+ on your flight — you can use that money for Disney snacks or souvenirs! Honestly, some of us would be willing to sit in the aisle for 2 hours (if that was safe, of course) if it meant saving hundreds on our vacation. What does that say about us, we don’t know, but we’re sure our backs will be mad at us for it in about a week.

Pack As Little As Humanly Possible

Listen, we’re chronic overpackers too, but you do nOT (intentional spelling — we’re in our 20s, remember?) need to pack 3 pairs of biker shorts because you’re afraid two of them will somehow get dirty when you’re only wearing them for dinner ONE night. Pack as little as you possibly can.

Target Suitcases

Plus, there’s laundry at Disney World hotels! It costs extra, yes, but you could reuse your fly-in outfit as your fly-out outfit and just wash it during your trip. However, this tip is within reason, okay? Pack all the medication you may need, an outfit for each day (and maybe ONE emergency outfit, okay? We’re not totally unreasonable), but leave the extra 14 pairs of ears and 3 pairs of shoes at home. You’ll thank us when you’re not paying for bags or lugging them around your massive Disney hotel.

Bite The Bullet And Fly Out Early/Late

We’re 20-something, okay! We’re still young! And that means it’s worth it to take a super early flight or a super late flight, because we can afford to lose some sleep if it means we’ll save money.

EPCOT

We have plenty of time for sleep in our future, but not very much money to blow (and we bet your wallet is already hurting from the Disney World tickets and hotel, right? Yeah, WE ARE YOU, so save the money). So even though it may suck getting to the airport at 5AM for a 6:30AM flight, you’ll be in Disney World in a few hours and can crash early so you’re well rested for the next day (…and spend the money you saved on merch).

Disney’s BoardWalk

See? We know what we’re talking about! We know a lot of these tips are easier for solo travelers, but you can make them work for families as well! As always, be sure to stay tuned to AllEars for all the latest Disney news!

This is the bag that will save you AT LEAST $70 on your next flight

  1. Also, check a variety of dates and days. Sometimes it’s cheaper to fly out on a different day. So if you’re able to work it that way, it does save money. And look for an airline, in my case we always use Southwest, that you can take free bags on. When you’re going to Florida in the winter months, the temperatures can change quite drastically. On one of our previous trips, Animal Kingdom had a wind chill in the 20’s for the day we went, and horribly windy. A couple of days later we were in the low 80’s. So check those forecasts, and keep checking those forecasts up until the day before you leave, and be prepared for all the weather! Nothing like needing your winter coat, hat, and gloves one day, then your shorts and t-shirts the next! And brush up on the TSA website as to what can go in the carry on, the checked luggage, and what isn’t allowed at least one week prior. All these things can relieve a lot of stress! And you need a spare pair of shoes! When it rains, the shoes you’re wearing WILL NOT dry out over night!! So bring that second pair of sneakers if rain is in the forecast!
