When it comes to looking like a pro at Disney World without really trying, you’ll need to be a little prepared and armed with the confidence that has you ready to take on anything Disney World throws your way. Read below for some of our tips that will have you looking like a  Disney World pro in no time!

BRING A BACKUP BATTERY

FuelRod and Kiosk

Disney World has fully embraced the digital space in recent years when it comes to the park experience. Now, through the My Disney Experience app, you can manage your park tickets, hotel reservations, dining reservations, and Lightning Lanes all while getting access to park maps, wait times, and showtimes.

It’s safe to say that Disney World requires you to be on your phone A LOT. Because of this, we recommend bringing a backup portable phone battery or charger. FuelRods are typically a good choice because they can be replaced at kiosks throughout Disney World, but any portable battery of your choice should be fine. The name of the game is reducing stress by always knowing your phone won’t run out of juice.

WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHES AND SHOES

You’ll do lots of walking in EPCOT

The Central Florida weather can be wild with high heat, heavy humidity, cold chills, and/or constant rain storms. Add in the fact that you will likely walk around 10 miles or more per day, and it’s safe to say that doing Disney World can be a physical challenge.

We recommend valuing comfort over style (blending both is always a great alternative) and bringing shoes that are perfect for physical activity (MAKE SURE THEY’RE ALREADY BROKEN IN!). If you dress for theme park success by wearing comfortable shoes and clothes, you could end up saving yourself a ton of hassle.

BRING A PONCHO

Clear Rain Poncho

Speaking of inclement weather, we also recommend packing a poncho. Not only is it easier to travel with than an umbrella, but it can also be removed when you no longer need it or used as a way to save you from getting completely soaked on a water ride.

Bringing your own also saves you time and money from running into a store and paying more for an emergency poncho.

USE SECRET WALKWAYS TO AVOID CROWDS

Secret path!

Ok, so finding secret paths at Disney World isn’t the easiest thing in the world during your first or second visits. However, we suggest mentally noting the lay of the land or looking at maps ahead of time to get a feel for the area. Always travel the road less traveled whenever you can.

Even if heavy foot traffic is going in one direction, there are often other paths available. Get familiar with alternate routes, and you could end up saving yourself time and stress from walking through crowded areas. This may seem like homework, but you can do this by simply taking a stroll and being observant.

SKIP ROPE DROP

Flight of Passage Line

Rope-dropping Disney Parks used to be a necessity. We say used to because the creation of Genie+ does help a ton, albeit for a price. To rope drop a park means to show up before the park opens to get ahead of the long lines. However, a lot of people rope drop, so you’re still competing and often times you may still encounter long lines *cough* *cough* *Avatar Flight of Passage*.

Instead, if you’re willing, sleep in a bit, buy Genie+ or Lightning Lanes, and remove the exhaustion of rope dropping and staying late into the evening at a Disney World Park. Your body will thank you for it.

KNOW WHEN TO TAKE IT SLOW

Big Blue Pool

You may have heard this before but it never hurts to hear it again — You won’t get everything done during a single Disney World vacation. You can press as much as you want to the point your legs fall off and your family is at each other’s throats, but neither will change that fact.

Instead, it’s okay to tap out when you and your family have hit your exhaustion threshold. Leave the parks early, take a pool/rest day, and ease your strict schedule to allow for leisure. Remember, you’re on vacation and relaxation is a great part of any vacation. Besides, the pain you gain at Disney World WILL follow you home so take it easy on yourself!

SKIP SHOWS, PARADES, AND FIREWORKS

Festival of Fantasy parade

Alright, so suggesting to skip live entertainment at Disney World might seem blasphemous to many, and we totally understand that. However, if you and your family want to get on as many rides as possible and dine without even more time restrictions, consider skipping Disney World shows, fireworks, and parades.

Live entertainment at Disney World takes up your time during performances and usually requires you to claim your viewing spots well in advance. Also, if you play your cards right, you can have your cake and eat it, too. For example, we love watching the Magic Kingdom fireworks aboard Big Thunder Mountain Railroad!
