Not all rules are written, especially when it comes to the Disney Parks.
We spend so much time at Disney World and Disneyland that we notice all kinds of new rules and other changes frequently. Over the years, we’ve become not only experts but, in many instances, Disney Adults, as well! In fact, we’ve learned about several unspoken Disney Adult rules!
These rules aren’t always shared and, admittedly, not all Disney Adults follow them, but we think these seven unspoken rules, in particular, are great pieces of advice — not just for Disney Adults, but for anyone who visits a Disney Park!
1. Be thoughtful during parades and shows.
A major consensus among the Disney Adults here at AllEars is to be respectful of others, especially children, during parades, shows, and fireworks. This means taking off your Minnie ears or moving so the kids and people behind you can see. Part of the responsibility of being a Disney Adult is doing your part to spread the Disney joy. Be aware of your surroundings and do your best to not block views.
2. Be generous on transportation.
If you see children or someone who needs a seat on Disney transportation like the bus or monorail, if you can, give up your seat. This rule ties into the previous rule’s theme of being courteous and works both in and out of the Disney Parks. ALWAYS BE KIND!
3. Be respectful of quiet areas.
Finding peace and quiet at Disney World and Disneyland can be challenging. However, if you come across such a place and see parents and kids taking much-needed breaks (which sometimes involve naps), be respectful. Don’t make excessive noise and disturb the peace.
4. Maintain the suspension of disbelief.
If you aren’t familiar with the suspension of disbelief, it’s the ability to get lost in the story while ignoring real-world logic. Sure, you may know the ins and outs of how a ride works, or maybe you know too many Disney secrets that spoil the illusion. But it’s important to remember that someone around you is experiencing Disney for the first time, and you shouldn’t be the one to spoil the magic.
This includes respecting characters, using kind language around others, and not ruining ride experiences. If you have any comments that could ruin someone else’s experience, wait until you’re in a private space to say them, or don’t say them at all.
Oh, and be mindful of your volume during preshows. Stay off your phone and don’t recite the preshows. The Haunted Mansion’s Ghost Host doesn’t need help remembering his lines, trust us.
5. Don’t randomly stop in the middle of walkways!
The Disney Parks are busy as is, and randomly stopping in the middle of a path or walkway is a recipe for traffic or a collision. We can’t even count how many times we’ve nearly or have actually run into people just because they randomly stopped. Step off to the side if you have to stop and don’t be the reason foot traffic occurs or someone gets injured.
6. Scooters and strollers aren’t battering rams.
It’s kind of sad that this one isn’t more obvious, but yeah — don’t be the person who uses a stroller or scooter to ram your way through traffic. It’s not only rude and super dangerous, but you could do it to someone who has no issue starting a conflict and then you’re in real trouble. Remember, BE KIND!
7. Be nice to Cast Members.
If you haven’t picked up the golden rule of being kind yet, let us hammer it home one last time. Disney Cast Members are some of the most incredible people we’ve ever met and they work a demanding job. Cast Members go above and beyond for us, so the simplest thing we can do in return is to be nice. Don’t raise your voice, listen to what they have to say, and try to be understanding. A little bit of kindness goes a long way!

How about don’t “stop” in walkways, although stooping is also a problem.
#6 has another side when you see a stroller, wheelchair or scooter it is not an invitation to try and get in front of them. They are not going any slower than the crowd and just because they are not as maneuverable doesn’t mean you can do gymnastics to get in front of them.
Tall adults and children, yes I’m talking about the 6ft teens, still children but the size of adults. These tall humans and their parents need to be considerate of the not so tall adults when watching parades/fireworks, I actually got asked to let a ‘child’ stand in front of me at Magic Kingdom fireworks, normally I would have said ‘sure’ but this time I looked the child up and down then said in my British accent ‘you have to joking, I’m 5ft 2” and they are at least a foot taller than me, so no’. The parents were really put out, but I’m guessing the accent/mum attitude did the trick.
