Southwest Airlines may be on to something here. According to an article in the Orlando Sentinel, the airline giant says it will be boosting flights by 25% shortly and aims to make MCO its Florida “hub” for international flights.

Of the current 38 airlines that fly into MCO, Southwest is looking to increase its volume of flights in and out of the Orlando airport starting this spring. Southwest’s COO, Andrew Watterson, recently went on the record to promise that we would see Southwest Airlines increase by “25 percent growth this March year over year.”

Starting next month, Southwest expects to start its ambitious expansion into 145 weekday departures and 180 Saturday departures. These increases will set a record high to date for the airline at Orlando’s bustling airport.

When asked how this increase in growth exploded for the company, Watterson cited several contributing factors, including the fact that Southwest doesn’t charge for a passenger’s first two bags, keeping transaction lines low, and more.

The more flight options available to YOU, the easier it is to book a flight to Disney World! Plus, Southwest’s two free bags perk is a RARE bonus — especially for families traveling with a lot of luggage.

    1. Southwest Airlines opened it’s routes from Columbus Ohio to Midway (Chicago) in 1992. That was the same year our son went to college and made the varsity soccer team as a freshman. Every weekend we flew SWA to see him play no matter where the team went – Texas, California, Colorado etc. The fare to Chicago and back was $19!! Each Way!! We have continued bto be faithful customers and always will!!
