On a recent trip out to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we happened across something strange.
Nestled inside the far corner of Pandora, you’ll find the Avatar flagship shop, officially known as Windtraders. Most folks come into this store to adopt a Banshee, make a 3D Avatar figurine, or build a Na’vi-inspired necklace, but as we wandered around the store, something caught our eye.
Now, we’ve seen our fair share of weird and unusual things in Disney World, but this is one we just had to warn you about. Why? Because it’s alive!
As you enter the front of Windtraders, look for a peculiar gathering of plants, or better yet, do what we did and ask a Cast Member about them!
The Cast Members we spoke with were very excited to tell us all about this collection of carnivorous plants; yes, you just read that right. Carnivorous!
Allow us to introduce you to the Carnivorous Sarracenia, Venus Fly Trap, and Asian Pitcher Plant.Â
Each of these plants has its own unique way that they capture their food. They also vary in how they prefer to be cared for, so make sure to do your research! The Asian Pitcher Plant grows as a vine and prefers collected rainwater as nourishment.
The Venus Fly Trap bears 3 to 10 white flowers in early to mid-summer, which helps its off-putting appearance. (Sorry, Venus!)
The Carnivorous Sarracenia grows as a longer, upright pitcher plant and gets brighter with more sunlight.
Each of these plants is pretty interesting and unique — but if you’re just as intrigued as us and are wondering how you can get them home from your vacation, the cast members here have you covered.
Each of these plants is transferable with you anywhere in the continental United States, with the exception of California, Arizona, and Texas. They’ll even package them up for you!
Pretty weird find, huh?! We’re always on the lookout for the latest in Disney merch no matter how unusual it may be. So, to stay updated on the latest info, stay tuned with us at AllEars.
