Some of the most common sights in Disney World include tasty but melty Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bars, people screaming on a roller coaster with their hands up in the air, and…construction walls?
It’s true — in order for the parks to look as magical as they do, Disney has to frequently update and refurbish the attractions, shops, and decor. Sometimes that can mean that these locations have to close for a while. Check out this list of what’s going to be closed in Disney World this week, from August 28th through September 3rd, 2022.
Magic Kingdom Closures
Walt Disney World Railroad
The Walt Disney World Railroad is still closed in Magic Kingdom, and Disney has not announced when it will reopen.
There has been some train testing and Cast Member training at this attraction, so it’s possible that it will reopen sooner rather than later. However, it may remain closed until construction on the TRON: Lightcycle Run coaster wraps up, as that project has interrupted the train tracks in Tomorrowland.
Tomorrowland Light & Power Co.
The TRON construction has also shut down the Space Mountain gift shop, called Tomorrowland Light & Power Co.
Visitors usually walk through the gift shop after riding Space Mountain, but they’re being redirected to exit a different way for now. The gift shop doesn’t have a reopening date yet.
Liberty Square Riverboat
Great news! The Liberty Square Riverboat will reopen this week, on September 2nd.
It was closed briefly for refurbishments, but beginning on the 2nd it will run like normal.
Enchanted Tales with Belle
This attraction, where guests can help Belle tell the story of Beauty and the Beast is still closed without a reopening date.
If you want to see the Beauty and the Beast story, you can watch the Beauty and the Beast — Live on Stage show in Disney’s Hollywood Studios instead.
Pete’s Silly Sideshow
This is a character meet-and-greet spot in Magic Kingdom where visitors could say hello to Daisy, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald. It’s going to reopen soon, but Disney hasn’t given an exact reopening date yet. They’ve only said that it will return “in the coming months.”
In the meantime, make sure to say hello to Winnie the Pooh and Tigger — they’re back meeting guests near The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
Meet Ariel at Her Grotto
The Little Mermaid character meet-and-greet location is still closed for now.
However, you can see an animatronic Ariel on Under the Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid — a nearby attraction.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios Closures
Fantasmic!
Fantasmic is still closed, although Disney has confirmed that it will reopen sometime in 2022. We’re continuing to watch for a specific reopening date.
When the show returns, there will be new effects, characters, and stunts.
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
The Little Mermaid can’t seem to catch a break! First the meet-and-greet is closed in Magic Kingdom, and now we have to report that the Voyage of the Little Mermaid is still closed in Hollywood Studios.
Disney hasn’t announced yet when or if this show will reopen.

EPCOT Closures
Canada Far & Wide in CircleVision 360
Canada Far & Wide in CircleVision 360 is really only half closed. We can explain: Instead of a movie playing inside the theater, you’ll find one of the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival booths there.
The Appleseed Orchard booth has an apple crumble tart and a few apple-flavored drinks. It also has the advantage of being one of the only indoor festival booths — a huge perk on hot Orlando days. We’re expecting the movie attraction to return once the festival ends on November 19th.
Find out what you should eat on a $50 budget at the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival.
Disney Water Park Refurbishments
Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park
Disney’s Blizzard Beach is currently closed, but you can still visit Typhoon Lagoon — Disney World’s OTHER water park.
Disney hasn’t announced when Blizzard Beach will reopen, but we’ll be on the lookout for updates about the park.

The good news is that the majority of Disney World’s most popular attractions will remain open, barring any technical problems or bad weather. If you’re hoping to get on the popular rides with a low wait time, make sure you get to the theme parks early (well before the scheduled opening time). And remember that Disney World hotel guests can go inside 30 minutes before the official opening time.
For an even better chance of getting on your favorite rides, you may consider buying Genie+ for the day. Genie+ costs $15 per person per day, and it allows you to make reservations at attractions’ Lightning Lanes, where you can skip the standby line. There was recently an update to Genie+ that made the system a little easier to use — you can check that out here!
