Cinderella isn’t the only one who gets to tell the story! These two infamous characters will be the stars of Disney’s next live-action movie!
With Disney focusing more of its recent live-action movies on villains, it was only a matter of time before these girls got a film of their own!
Deadline reported that Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, who have worked together in the past on Bridesmaids and Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar, are now partnering with Disney to create a live-action movie based on Cinderella’s evil stepsisters!
The film is a fantasy musical comedy that will retell the story of Cinderella from the stepsisters’ point of view. The movie’s timeline will span from the girls’ early childhood before their mother’s remarriage through to the end of the fairy tale.
This movie is currently in the very early stages of development, so it is unknown whether or not Wiig and Mumolo will also star in the movie. It is rumored, however, that the stepsisters will be played by younger actresses.
Disney has recently swayed to retelling classic fairy tales from the antagonists’ point of view in recent live-action remakes. From Maleficent to Cruella, these classic villains are finally getting the chance to tell their version of the story. This new take on Cinderella might make us rethink the classic tale!
