Disney Springs has welcomed a new store in the Marketplace neighborhood dedicated to interactive artistic endeavors.
The Art Corner, on the site of the former Little MissMatched shop, features artistic marbling, digital caricatures, and other forms of art.
The store has several different spaces within the shop, each dedicated to a different art form.
Artistic Marbling is a favorite of mine — I first encountered it at the Festival of the Arts last year, and also saw it featured at the Food and Wine Festival last fall. The technique involves floating paint on top of water and then transferring the resulting pattern onto a sheet of silk.
You can choose from patterns already made in the studio, or try your hand at it and see what you come up with.
Another section of the shop features works all made by painting coffee, by an artist named Mikel. Those of us who are caffeine addicts will appreciate this art — just don’t try to lick it!
In the Name Works section there are pieces that skillfully incorporate your name into various designs and patterns.
Finally, there’s a section where you can get a caricature done — digitally.
These “Caricatures of the Future!” are all done via drawing on a computer rather than with pen and ink… but the results are equally awesome.
There are other art supplies available for aspiring artists who want to try their hands at getting creative, too.
The Art Corner is sponsored by an organization called The Artistic Talent Group. We don’t know if the offerings in the Corner will change as time goes on, but we are eager to see how this shop grows and develops!
If you’re curious, here’s a video of Artistic Marbling being done at the Festival of Arts last year.
