11 Places You CAN’T Visit in Disney in 2024

In a perfect world, everything in the Disney Parks and Resorts would be open year-round. Alas, this is hardly the case and 2024 is no different.

Construction walls are just part of the Disney experience sometimes!

Refurbishments and closures are ever-present at the Disney Resorts and possible park expansions tend to lead to several changes on a year-to-year basis. With that in mind, we have the details on what you should expect TO NOT experience at Disney World and Disneyland Resort in 2024.

Several Disney attractions, shows, and stores will either be permanently or temporarily closed in 2024. Here’s what you should be prepared to miss during your Disney trips in 2024:

Permanent Closures

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

If you ever wanted to stay at a Star Wars-themed hotel, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser next to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Disney World was the place for you. Unfortunately, Disney permanently closed the hotel after a little over a year of operation on September 30th, 2023. So far, there are no public plans of what will become of the hotel nor any news or rumors of possible replacements.

Beast’s Library Closed

Heading over to Disney California Adventure, it was recently announced that Beast’s Library inside the Sorcerer’s Workshop at Animation Academy is closed for good. The interactive experience closed permanently on December 10th, 2023, and is making way for Disney’s Imagination Campus, a new educational program.

Splash Mountain

2023 saw the end of an incredibly popular attraction at both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland — Splash Mountain. The log flume ride closed at Disney World on January 22nd, 2023, and at Disneyland on May 30th, 2023. Both versions of the attraction are currently in the process of being transformed into Tiana’s Bayou Adventurewhich is scheduled to open on both coasts in late 2024.

The Art of Shaving

Disney Springs in Disney World has seen a few closures in 2023 that will carry into 2024 and beyond. One of those permanent closures is The Art of Shaving, a top-notch spot for haircuts, facials, and beard trims for men will be closing its doors on January 2nd, 2024. Nothing has been announced to replace the location yet.

UGG Store CLOSED

Another Disney Springs store that saw a permanent closure in early 2023 was the UGG store. As of this writing, it does not appear the popular footwear outlet will be coming back to Disney Springs anytime soon.

The Melissa Shop is permanently closed.

Just like UGG, Melissa Clube left Disney Springs in early 2023. The store sold a variety of shoes but was most recognizable for its jelly-material sandals.

Sosa Family Cigar

Sosa Family Cigar Co. also permanently closed its doors on January 2nd, 2023 in Disney Springs. The cigar shop had long been a staple of Disney Springs and was replaced by Bowes Signature Candles this past fall.

Old French Market Restaurant

Over at Disneyland, French Market Restaurant in New Orleans Square was a hotspot for bread bowls and Lousiana/Cajun-inspired meals. It was removed earlier in 2023 in favor of the brand-new Tiana’s Palace. Check out our review here!

A major show is coming to an end at Disneyland on January 7th, 2024. Disney’s “Tale of the Lion King”, found between Mickey’s Toontown and “it’s a small world” in the Fantasyland Theatre is a stage adaptation of Disney’s The Lion King (1994) and debuted in 2019. A new show or possible replacement has not been announced.

Possibly Returning In 2024

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

A couple of major Disney rides are undergoing presumably lengthy refurbishments in 2024. Up first is Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith at Disney’s Hollywood Studios beginning January 8th, 2024. This Disney World attraction seems to undergo frequent refurbishments and as far as this one goes, there is no set re-opening date. We don’t yet know what to truly expect with this refurbishment, but we’ll let you know when more information is made available.

Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion

Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion is currently featuring its holiday overlay but will eventually close for refurbishment on January 21st, 2024. That’s usually pretty normal, as the ride takes a brief period of time to revert back to the typical Haunted Mansion theme. 2024’s refurbishment will be different, however, as no re-opening date has been announced. This could be a lengthy refurbishment with news of expansion and reinvention of the area surrounding the mansion.

Disney previously announced that the expansion would begin in January 2024 and that it would consist of an expanded outdoor queue to “immerse guests in enhanced theming” that features new gardens inspired by Master Gracey, Madame Leota, and the one-eyed cat. The area will also include a water fountain, a new gazebo, statues, and a new greenhouse. There will also be a new retail shop built next to the ride exit.
