Disney Pic of the Week – Resort Wish List

Light Meter by Lisa K. Berton

Hotel rooms come in various sizes with a wide assortment of amenities. Overnight stays range in price to fit your budget or blow your budget out the door. The view from your room might be of a theme park or a parking lot. The one thing they all have in common is that extra touch that only Disney can deliver.

This week my fellow photobloggers and I dish on our resort wish list. No doubt, your wishes will match ours and then some.

My Wish List for Disney Resorts:

1. Cut back the prices on all rooms. Don’t make it a sale or a temporary throwback just lower the cost. About 10 years ago I paid $79 for a room at Paradise Pier Hotel with an Annual Pass discount. Today, the very same room is $169.00. That’s more than a 100% increase. I don’t know about anyone else but I’m not making double what I earned in 2001.

2. I would like to stay in every Disneyland and Walt Disney World resort/hotel. Two down and one to go at Disneyland. I’ve stayed at 8 locations in Walt Disney World.

3. Stop outsourcing. The biggest problems guests face in terms of service come from dealing with employees who were not hired directly by Disney.

I’m still delighted at my surprise upgrade to a one bedroom suite at Paradise Pier a few years back. This was a birthday trip. My up-coming birthday trip won’t include staying on property. Wah.

Barrie and Scott will post their desires on Thursday and Saturday.

  1. Hi Lisa,
We are a family of 5. My wish is for us to stay at any resort at Disney without needing 2 rooms or a suite. We would love to stay at every resort, too, but that will never happen for us. We can’t even all fit into 1 room at the Wilderness Lodge, a deluxe resort. We have the option of Port Orleans Riverside or most of the deluxe resorts. I am still unsure if we can fit into a regular room at the AKL or if we need a suite there. I love Disney but find it disappointing that this family friendly empire is not family friendly with all of their resorts. Thanks for letting me vent.

  2. Invest in insulation for walls between the rooms. Nothing spoils a vacation for me than to spend over $200.00 a night and hear screaming kids or rowdy partiers all night long.

  3. Great idea! I think picking the resort is one of the most fun parts of planning a trip. About the only wish I have for the resorts may be a bit OCD – only my friends that are true Disney nuts understand. I always wanted to stay in every resort in the order they were added. It’s already been ruined as I had no say in where we stayed when the trip was on the parents’ dime. Oh well. Wait, no, another wish! I wish they’d build the originally planned ones: Asian, Mediterranean, Persian, etc… Fun stuff!

  4. I have become a big fan of resorts with easy access to one or two parks. We have Beach Club DVC and really enjoy being able to walk to a park. I would love to stay at some of the monorail resorts, i.e., Polynesian and Contemporary. We still have to make a trip out to Disneyland one of these days.

  5. When I read the Rate and Review section on the resorts, it seems that a common thread in the low rated reviews concerns dissatisfaction with Mousekeeping. Is this an example of the outsourced jobs that you spoke of in Item 3? I was not previously aware that Disney did not directly hire all of its on-site staff. For the record, when I last stayed at Port Orleans Riverside (Sept, 2010), I thought that Mousekeeping did a good job. From what I read, while my experience was not uncommon, neither is it universal.

Lisa responds: To my knowledge, Mousekeeping is a mix of those who were hired by Disney years ago and newer employees who technically work for another company but were placed at Disney. It’s quite possible I’m wrong or my info is outdated so the next time you visit a Disney resort, you might want to ask.
