Here’s a simple composition of a blue Mickey Mouse balloon I took in the Magic Kingdom. Doesn’t it look nice? However, there is a major flaw to this photo. Hard to see at this size but if you click the photo, you’ll see a larger version. Can you tell me what is wrong and how I might avoid it next time? I would greatly appreciate it.

A lot of you thought the reflections or glare on the balloon was the problem. For me, I didn’t think so as it added interest even if one of the reflections was me. 🙂 With high Florida sun, it’s hard to get rid of secular highlights even with a polarizer.
Shane and Steve correctly identified the major flaw which is the inside blue balloon is not very sharp. Though neither one told me how to get rid of it. It wasn’t because of the autofocus. No, the shutter speed was too slow. It was a breezy day and the balloon was moving some. I’ll go more into detail on my next post his Friday.
To me this picture is beautiful and so I have absolutely no clue as to what’s wrong with it so I anxiously await the reply….thx for all you lovely pictures that give me my Disney daily fix.

The flaw is in the upper left hand corner – seeing the people and buildings. I would either take it at a different angle or a different time of day to avoid the “people reflections”
Ah, I spot the problem! I can see you! Perhaps, if you stand off to the side next time. That way, you won’t have a reflection in the balloon. Great picture, anyway!

Then again it wasn’t taken at Animal Kingdom because they don’t allow balloons there. So I am stumped.

I don’t know what the flaw is but I can see it was taken at Animal Kingdom.
Scott replies: Nope…see previous comment as to the balloons location.
I have two guesses. First, the inside balloon is out of focus. Possible solution is to keep hitting the shutter button until the auto-focus picks up the inner balloon or set the aperture 1 step up.
Second, there is the reflection of the buildings, sun, and street. Not quite sure how to fix this one either but possibly another angle or another time of day.

Hi – is the problem the reflection you can see in the blue part of the balloon? Just a guess. I don’t know how you would fix it, though. (I’m a very amateur photographer.)
Uummm… you’re in the Animal Kingdom, not the Magic Kingdom?
Scott replies: No, I wouldn’t lie to you. 🙂 This was taken in Adventureland across from where Captain Jack Sparrow hosts his Pirate Tutorial. Lots of palm trees and vegetation there.
I confess I can’t see the problem. At first I thought that the many reflections in the balloon included the head of the photographer, but when I look closely, I see that it is sun and clouds and trees that are reflected, and a building on the left side. I think that sort of adds to the photo. I guess if you wanted to eliminate the reflection off the balloon, you’d have to wait for it to be more cloudy, but I kind of like the reflections and the pink.
Maybe the mickey (white one on the blue balloon) isn’t as sharp as it should be?
Is it that you can see the photographer’s reflection?
There is a lot of glare on the clear balloon, I would use a polarize filter to eliminate it
