Sounds Like Summer Concert Series – Slippery When Wet

I went into Epcot to do one of my favorite things; to see a concert at the American Garden Theater which is located right in front of the American Adventure. This time of the year we get to see the Sounds Like Summer concert series. Performing in this series are tribute bands playing songs of some truly great recording artists.

Performing last night (7/13/10) was Slippery When Wet. This is a Jon Bon Jovi tribute band.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Bon Jovi, they are a rock band founded by their lead singer Jon Bon Jovi who first started recording in the 80’s and are still recording and performing now. According to Wikipedia, Bon Jovi has “sold over 130 million records worldwide.” “They have performed more than 2,600 concerts in over 50 countries for more than 34 million fans.” Pretty impressive! Anyway, some of Bon Jovi’s hit songs are: Livin’ On A Prayer, Runaway, Wanted Dead Or Alive, You Give Love A Bad Name, Never Say Goodbye, Bad Medicine, Always and We Weren’t Born To Follow .

Tip: for those of you who don’t always recognize songs by their title (like me) you can go to either YouTube.com and find a video or a website like Amazon.com and look up the greatest hits album. Amazon will allow you to play a few seconds of each song; just enough to help you recognize (or not) the song.

The band, Slippery When Wet, is an excellent Bon Jovi tribute band. I thought that the lead singer did an outstanding job performing as Jon Bon Jovi. The band, which consisted of two guitarist and a drummer, was also very good. This group has performed at the Sounds Like Summer concert for a number of years. I hope that Disney brings them back again next year.

I stayed for all three concerts and each set was very different. Very few of the songs were repeated. Slippery When Wet did a great job trying to play as many Bon Jovi hits as possible. If you get a chance to see Slippery When Wet perform I encourage you to do so.

Here’s a few pictures from tonight’s performance for you to enjoy.

  1. We just saw them last week, We have been to many Bon Jovi shows and this band is dead on! They have all the movements to all the songs and sound just like them.I would definitely see them if you get the chance.

  2. Mike,
I’m hoping to catch at least two of the bands next week–your blogs have me very excited to see the bands Disney brings in–we’re going to be around for 2U and Beginnings!

DizneyMike replies: Heather, keep and eye out for me, I’ll be at some (not all) of both the 2U and Beginnings concerts. So if you spot me be sure to say ‘hello’….Mike

  3. As a long time Bon Jovi fan, I was a little skeptical but your video impressed me. They are really good! I’ve never been lucky enough to see Bon Jovi in person but this could be a good substitute. I’ll have to watch for their dates for next summer when we plan our return to the World! Thanks for another great blog!

DizneyMike replies: Laura, the tribute band groups that Disney brings in are top notch. Very, very good! I’m sure that being a Bon Jovi fan you would have loved this concert. Hopefully you’ll be able to see them next year…Mike

  4. Great blog, pictures and video, Mike!

We have seen Slippery When Wet perform the past 3 years at EPCOT, and love them so much that we plan a summer trip during the time they are scheduled to perform. Jason (the lead singer) is Jon Bon Jovi incarnate!!! We also saw Bon Jovi live at the HersheyPark Stadium in May, and when we saw Slippery When Wet Sunday evening at EPCOT, we realized even more than before how excellent this tribute band is!!!

Already looking forward to seeing them again next year!
