Sounds Like Summer Concert Series – Karin Lawson

I went into Epcot to do one of my favorite things; to see a concert at the American Garden Theater which is located right in front of the American Adventure. This time of the year we get to see the Sounds Like Summer concert series. Performing in this series are tribute bands playing songs of some truly great recording artists.

Performing tonight was Karin Lawson. Karin Lawson is a Janet Jackson sound alike, tribute performer.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Janet Jackson, she is the sister of Michael Jackson and she started recording in the early 80’s and is still recording and performing. Like her brother she is known for upbeat, high energy songs and performances. Her music is best described at pop and R&B. She has had a number of hit songs and is one of the best selling women recording artist. Some of Janet Jackson’s hit songs are: Together Again, Runaway, Scream, That’s The Way Love Goes, Because Of You, Miss You Much, Escapade and Rhythm Nation .

Tip: for those of you who don’t recognize songs by their title (like me) you can go to either YouTube.com and find a video or a website like Amazon.com and look up the greatest hits album. Amazon will allow you to play a few seconds of each song; just enough to help you recognize (or not) the song.

Just like Janet Jackson, Karin Lawson’s performance was high energy. Besides a band that consisted of two guitar players, drummer and keyboardist, she also had six dancers. All the songs were well choreographed and everyone seemed to be having a great time up on the stage. With Karin and the dancers you certainly got the sound, look and feel of a Janet Jackson concert. It was very well done. Karin has a really good voice and is a great entertainer. Her closing number in each set was “Together Again”. During that song she got off the stage and went into the crowd and interacted with as many of the children as possible. The kids love it!

I stayed for the first two shows and in each set she sang the same songs; and I understand from others that I spoke with that all three of her sets are exactly the same. That’s a disappointment! I like it when the artist change up the sets and sing different songs. I do want to note that a thunder and lightening storm moved in a couple of hours before the first show and it rained the rest of the evening; sometimes very hard. Fortunately the thunder and lightening stopped and the first show was only delayed about 15 minutes. Because of the storm and the constant rain, not a lot of people were at the two concerts I watched.
