Sounds Like Summer Concert Series – 2U

I went into Epcot to do one of my favorite things; to see a concert at the America Gardens Theatre which is located right in front of the American Adventure. This time of the year we get to see the Sounds Like Summer concert series. Performing in this series are tribute bands playing songs of some truly great recording artists.

Performing last night (7/20/10) was 2U. This is a U2 tribute band.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with U2, they are an Irish rock band founded in the mid ’70s. Their lead singer, Bono, is well known, besides for his singing talents, as an avid activist lending his support to a number of international issues. The band is still performing, and to date have sold over 150 million records. They have won 22 Grammy Awards and have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Anyway, some of U2’s hit songs are: Sunday Bloody Sunday, Bad, Gloria, I Will Follow, With Or Without You, New Year’s Day, and Beautiful Day.

Tip: for those of you who don’t always recognize songs by their title (like me) you can go to either YouTube.com and find a video or a website like Amazon.com and look up the greatest hits album. Amazon will allow you to play a few seconds of each song; just enough to help you recognize (or not) the song.

The band, 2U, is a very good U2 tribute band. This group has performed at the Sounds Like Summer concert for the past couple of years. However, this is the first time that I’ve had the opportunity to see them. One guest told me that in the past couple of years they have changed lead singers each year. I thought they were very good and really enjoyed the concert.

Because we had dinner reservations, we only stayed for one show. However, I understand that all three concerts each night are very different. In fact, I was told that in some cases they don’t even repeat songs on successive night. Needless to say, 2U did a great job trying to play as many U2 hits as possible. If you get a chance to see 2U perform I encourage you to do so.

Here’s a few pictures from tonight’s performance for you to enjoy.

Well, I hope you enjoyed the blog, photos and video. I know it’s a tough job (me having to attend all these concerts) but someone has got to do it. 🙂

  1. Our first trip is coming up soon but we have already decided on a few things that we simply must come home with:

    1) christmas tree ornaments
    2)cookie cutters in famous shapes
    3)sweatshirts

    Thanks!

  2. Mike-

They are my favorite band by far in the series. I was there every day for all three shows. They did repeat songs but never on the same night. In response to the guest comment, Gene has been the vocalist for this year and last. He has noticeably improved from last year. In 2008 they had a different guy. They also brought back Tim who was their original drummer from 2008. His return made a huge difference. The drummer from last year now performs with the Ramones.

  3. Hey Mike! I’m a little late commenting on this but I wanted to say that I saw 2U a few nights later and they were awesome! Chris and I even thought the lead singer kind of resembled Bono ha ha

  4. Wow, Electric Co. was actually pretty good. This would have been a great show – we’re U2 fans from way back.

  5. We went on Monday night to see 2U perform and I thought they were great! I had also never seen them before. I am a U2 fan, though not as much as the friend I went with, and we both greatly enjoyed the show. She especially loved that they played a couple of the more obscure songs and the lead singer did so many of Bono’s “classic” concert moves. Highly recommend anyone who can to go see them!
