World of Color Full Run-Through April 16, 2010

Lee and I are staying in the Villas at the Grand Californian for our Food and Wine weekend. I requested a Paradise Pier view when I booked it, and we got one – we are on the 4th floor.

We knew that World of Color testing was going on, so hoped to see some of that, but last night around 10:30 after DCA closed we saw something even better – what looked to be a full run-through, complete with sound, of the much-anticipated World of Color show.

We are off to the side, so were not able to see the projections on the mist screens at all, but had a pretty good view of the fountains. Since this wasn’t planned, Lee didn’t have a tripod, so the camera was hand-held and a little shaky in places. It’s about 25 minutes long, so we posted it to youtube in three parts.

Here it is – hope you enjoy!

  1. I guess I’m the only one who is underwhelmed. It looked like nothing more then glorified dancing waters. I wouldn’t line up for hours and fight massive crowds to see this. I’ll see it eventually but I’m not as excited as I was before.

  2. That looks awesome! My 3 1/2 year old wants to see it every night before bed! I’m only worried that once we see it in person he’ll want to do that every night before bed! It’s going to give the folks at the Belligio in Las Vegas something to think about too…

  3. We were in villa 6500 (right next to the viewing patio) April 18-22 and were able to see at least some of the show on 3 nights! We missed the beginning the first night since we were at Disneyland watching the fireworks but we made it back to our room earlier the other 2 nights and saw most of it. Amazing doesn’t begin to describe it. Watching it from our balcony gave me chills – I can only imagine how awesome it will be when you are down closer to the “magic”.
Thanks for the video…somehow everynight I sat and watched without taking any video or photos! I was just too intrigued to go back inside and get my camera!

  4. BEAUTIFUL! Lee, thanks for holding that camera for 25 minutes! 🙂
Were there any fireworks in this show? I saw shots of light but didn’t think they were fireworks. I hope NOT so maybe they can bring the show to Animal Kingdom and it wouldn’t scare the animals! 🙂

Laura replies: No fireworks – unless you count all of the flames. Did I mention that we could feel the heat all the way up where we were?

  5. Thank you so VERY much for sharing this with us. We saw some of the construction of this in September and thought we’d love to see it. Now, we’re definitely adding it to our Disney holiday in December. Joanne Adelaide Australia

  6. That was so amazing! Thank you so much for posting that! Even without seeing everything it almost brings me to tears. Those people are amazing! (You are too!)

Laura replies: Thank you so much – I will pass that on to Lee, since he did all of the work on the video. I’m looking forward to seeing it in June, now that we finally have the June 11 opening date announced!

  7. Has Disney given a date as to when the show will premier for guests? I’ll be there in May and hope to see it live.

June 11, 2010 is the date!

  8. WOW!!! This is awesome! I’m coming to Disneyland for my first ever trip in September (planning on attending ‘Destination D’) and can’t wait to see this – looks fantastic!

  9. That was spectacular! Thank you for taking the time to share and post these videos. I have to say, it gave me pause to visit Disneyland instead of WDW for our next trip. We’ll see! Do you know when the show will go public? Thanks again.

Laura replies: Disney finally announced on Tuesday that World of Color will open to the public on June 11.

  10. OMG!!! That was…WOW! I’m so jealous. I live on the east coast in GA. My brother, who lives on the west coast in Seattle, is taking his kids to Disneyland this year. He gets Captain Eo and this? So not fair!

  11. What a great post, I will plan a trip to Disneyland to see this. I will remember to bring a rain poncho, it looks like if ther is any wind you will need it. I will also be buying some of my favorite natural gas stock after seeing this show.

  12. This seems even better than the video posted over at Laughingplace.com from the run through on April 6.

That said, Laughingplace’s video said the run-through on April 6 was for Bob Iger and Tom Staggs.

Do you think this run through was for John Lasseter? I saw he was in DCA for the Food and Wine festival..so it would really make sense!

Laura replies: Yes, the run-through was for John Lasseter – he stayed around for at least another hour afterward watching some of the testing they were doing. To us it looked like they were experimenting with different versions of the finale. Lee put a video of that up on youtube, also. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1D_5UsATFtQ

  13. Sounds like we were there the same time as you. We were in 5504. Thanks for posting the video, I took one too.

Laura replies: I think we were right below you in 4502! A floor higher would have been nice – we had a tree partly blocking our view.

  14. We were staying in the Grand Califonia Villas and had a view of the whole thing. We saw several tests for several nights, it was great. We were on the 5th floor overlooking DCA.

  15. It’s amazing how Disney never fails to give me chills using something as ordinary as water, lights, and music and making it magical.

  16. Thank you–this lifted our spirits during a difficult time. It gave us some unexpected magic and reminded us of the unexpected magic we have experienced at Disney. I am so glad this happened for you.

Laura replies: Thank you, Amy – I hope you soon have brighter days ahead.

  17. Thank you for sharing this, I have been looking forward to it for a long time. My son & daughter-in-law are cruising down the 5 from NorCal the end of May for 4 nights at Disneyland but we may have to go back later in the summer to see it.

  18. Thank you so much for taking that video and sharing it with us. This show is just beautiful and if I didn’t want to visit Disneyland before, which I already did, I would certainly want to visit it now. It’s just amazing what those imagineers can do with light, water, music, a little fire/pyro and some pixie dust. I actually had goosebumps!

  19. Thank you guys for the excellent preview of the World of Color. As A Canadian I can’t get to the West coast often but am dying to get there now and see it first hand.

  20. What was there not to enjoy?

I have been watching small clips of the testing people have been posting the last couple of months. They were definately exciting me as to what the finished show would look like in its’ completed form.

It looks like it will not disappoint!

  21. As usual, Disney does it right. I’m staying at the Grand Californian with my sister in about 10 days…can’t wait!!

  22. Woa, that was beautiful!
I absolutely loved the colors. I think I’m spoiled for life now when it comes to water shows. I have to say I was a little dissapointed with the music selection; it seemed a little chaotic to me, but that might just be me.
    Overal, great show.
Looks like I’m gonna have to buy that ticket to California anyway!

  23. IM….ASTOUNDED…PERIOD.

My favorite part was when they incorporated Mussorgsky’s Night on Bare Mountain with the flames…amazing. Thanks for posting these. Looking forward to seeing more!!!
