Running With Your Kids at the Walt Disney World® Marathon Weekend

Whether you're trying to get your family healthy, limit screen time or just looking to spend time with your children, the solution can be as simple as running. Not only can your children benefit from the regular physical activity, but running has proven to help adolescents sleep more soundly and better handle physical and emotional challenges.

The personal challenge, camaraderie while running with others, the confidence you gain when achieving a personal best and the countless health benefits are all things we want our kids to experience, but how do you safely and effectively engage your children in a running program?

Make it fun!

Running is not just about the miles or achieving the best possible time. For kids, you need variety and a fun attitude for them to enjoy an afternoon jog. Create obstacle courses, scavenger hunts or relays to engage your child in physical activity that doesn't feel like long distance running. Variety and a fun approach will eliminate boredom and keep your child engaged.

Lead by example.

While you may be passionate about running, you can't expect your kids to automatically have the same enthusiasm. Instead, set an example as someone who enjoys running and has fun with it. Your child will likely embrace the sport when they see a parent enjoying runs and talking positively about their experiences.

Set goals together.

Having realistic goals can motivate you and your child to run regularly. Whether your goal is to run a 5K, beat a certain time or increase your time out together, make sure it's a goal your child is comfortable with. Work in unison to achieve the same goal and help one another to reach the end.

Make your child the priority.

Regardless of the personal bests you're trying to achieve or the marathon you're training for, the runs you take with your child are about the two of you. If you are training, schedule your regular runs for another day so you can focus your attention on your child and their running goals. One of the most rewarding benefits of running with your child is the one-on-one time you have while out for a jog - take advantage of this time to learn about your son or daughter and what motivates them to achieve their own goals. It may even reinvigorate your own running regimen.

CELEBRATION, Fla. - Adult guests aboard the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy can enjoy new premium culinary experiences and menus in Remy, one of Disney Cruise Line's fine dining specialty restaurants. The expanded collection of offerings in the French-inspired Remy include a unique tasting opportunity, a decadent dessert experience, a seasonal truffle menu and special caviar selections.

Petites Assiettes de Remy

Petites Assiettes de Remy, or Small Plates of Remy, is a brand-new culinary journey at Remy on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy that provides a taste of the elegant dishes developed by award-winning Chef Arnaud Lallement and Chef Scott Hunnel. Hosted by the Executive Chef, who serves as an epicurean guide for this progressive tasting experience, adult guests travel throughout the restaurant to sample small plates of Remy's gourmet cuisine and fine wine.

remy-2015-2.jpg

Offered during the early evening hours on the first day of each cruise, this one-of-a-kind event includes six exquisite dishes from the restaurant's seasonal menu, along with wine pairings for each course. The first course of blinis with Californian caviar and Champagne is served in Remy's spectacular wine room with floor-to-ceiling rows of world-class wines.

remy-2015-4.jpg

For the next four courses, guests move through the main dining room where they are presented with a superb French-inspired dish, such as grilled salmon with smoked salmon cream and Kobe beef with turnip and potato gratin, along with a specially selected glass of wine at each station. This unique tasting opportunity concludes with a sophisticated dessert and the final wine pairing in the private Chef's Table dining room.

Petites Assiettes de Remy is $50 per person and includes a wine pairing with each course.

Pompidou's Patisseries Dessert Experience

An exclusive event on the Disney Fantasy, Pompidou's Patisseries Dessert Experience offers adult guests the chance to indulge in decadent desserts while Remy's Executive Chef and Executive Pastry Chef provide insight into the history and artistry of crafting sweet masterpieces.

Named after the dessert chef from the Disney-Pixar's "Ratatouille," the Pompidou's Patisseries Dessert Experience begins with a greeting from these culinary masters in the private Chef's Table dining room, Chez Gusteau, inspired by the fictional Paris restaurant in the film. Guests are then seated in the main dining room for presentations and tastings of six desserts, such as French praline topped with milk chocolate mousse and dark chocolate glaze; raspberry sorbet paired with vanilla ice cream, French vanilla meringues and fresh raspberries; and orange crème pâtissière inside an orange-flavored tuile wafer. As each dessert is served, Remy's world-class chefs share fun facts and discuss the evolution of the dessert, allowing for an intimate and in-depth culinary dialogue.

The dessert experience at Remy, offered on sea days exclusively on the Disney Fantasy, is $50 per person and includes one complimentary glass of Champagne, wine or a cocktail.

Truffle Collection

From November through February on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, the chefs at Remy celebrate truffle season with the addition of the Truffle Collection, a premium menu inspired by this uniquely flavored delicacy featuring white Alba and black Périgord truffles.

The rich flavors of this luxurious ingredient are infused throughout the six-course menu with exquisite dishes such as gnocchi potato served with a truffle puree and garnished with grated truffle, fresh Maine lobster coupled with lobster bisque and truffle-seasoned Parisian fried potatoes and seared Wagyu beef over truffle glazed baby vegetables, followed by a selection of refined cheeses and a sweet indulgence.

The truffle menu at Remy is $250 per person.

Caviar Selections

Special caviar selections are offered a-la-carte at Remy on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy.

remy-2015-7.jpg

Options include farm-raised varieties of Osetra and Sevruga caviars from regions in France and Russia. All caviar is served with specially selected Krug Grande Annee Champagne, and menu prices for a 1-ounce tin range from $99 to $360.

Brazilian Fredison Costa dominates in second straight Disney Marathon

marathon2015.jpg
Brazilian Fredison Costa dominates in second straight Disney Marathon Giovanna Martins of Brazil claims her first women's title

More than 84,000 runners lined up for races in the five-day runDisney event that includes new Disney Castaway Cay Challenge

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Jan. 11, 2015) - Fredison Costa is making himself at home - literally - at Walt Disney World Resort.

The Brazilian runner, who recently moved to Orlando and trains at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World, ran away with another Walt Disney World Marathon victory on Sunday. On a picturesque morning at Epcot, Costa left everyone behind in waltzing to his second straight Disney Marathon win and fourth in the past five years.

And he led another parade of Brazilian runners who were among the first four runners to cross the finish line. Trindade Mateus was second; Joao Fonseca was third and perennial Disney Marathon champion Adriano Bastos was fourth. It was the 11th straight year that a Brazilian won the 26.2-mile race through all four Disney theme parks, the Walt Disney World Speedway and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

To complete the Brazilian domination at Disney, Giovanna Martins of Brazil was the top female winner, finishing in 2:50:20. Martins cried tears of joy after crossing the line. "I'm a teacher of disabled and underprivileged children (in Brazil) who dream about Mickey Mouse and love him as much as I do,'' Martins said through an interpreter, "so this was a dream come true.''

Martins was never challenged down the stretch. Neither was Costa, 37, who won by more than four minutes. That's enough time to ride Space Mountain before Mateus crossed the finish line. At 2:18:06, Costa easily topped his winning time from last year of 2:21:39.

He said the best part of the race was seeing his coach, former US Olympic track coach Brooks Johnson, as he ran through ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. "I could see (him) and he was just cheering me on,'' Costa said through an interpreter. "I really feel at home running here.''
In the wheelchair division, Robert Kozarek of Urbana, Ill., repeated as the men's champion (1:57:35). Perennial winner Jacqui Kapinowski of Tesqesta, Fla., won the women's division (2:39:04).

In all, more than 26,700 runners competed in the Disney Marathon presented by Cigna on Sunday. More than 7,600 of those runners ran in all four weekend events - the 5K, the 10K, the half marathon and the marathon, completing the popular "Dopey Challenge'' (48.6 miles).

The Disney Marathon featured events for the entire family such as runDisney Kids' Races, the Family Fun Run 5K on Thursday, the Walt Disney World 10K on Friday, the Half Marathon on Saturday and the Marathon on Sunday. A Health and Fitness Expo ran throughout the weekend at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and featured the latest in running technology and fashion, as well as renowned running experts such as Jeff Galloway, the official training consultant for runDisney, and Tara Gidus, the official runDisney nutritionist.

In a new twist this year, the Disney Marathon Weekend extends onto the high seas. Disney Marathon Weekend runners are competing Jan. 14 in the new Disney Castaway Cay Challenge, a special 5K race on Disney Castaway Cay, Disney Cruise Line's private Bahamas island. Every runner who finishes this new runDisney Challenge event will earn two medals - an inaugural Disney Castaway Cay Challenge medal and a Castaway Cay 5K medallion, plus any medals earned for running any Disney Marathon Weekend events (5K, 10K, half marathon or full marathon).

The Castaway Cay Challenge takes place during the 4-night Disney Dream cruise itinerary that sets sail Jan. 12 from Port Canaveral, Fla. and includes a stop in Nassau in addition to Castaway Cay. The cruise will feature exclusive activities designed for Castaway Cay Challenge participants, plus special menu items and merchandise.

The Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is the first race in the 2015 runDisney series, which includes eight weekend events at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Next up in the runDisney series is the inaugural Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend presented by Sierra Nevada Corporation at Disneyland Resort, Jan. 15-18.

Disneyland Resort Adds Dazzling, New Nighttime Spectaculars for Its Diamond Celebration, Beginning May 22

disneyland-resort-60th-anniversary.jpg

Nighttime Celebration Like None Before Will Light up the Resort with
a Glittering Parade, Street-to-Sky Fireworks Show and a Fun-filled 'World of Color' Featuring Mickey Mouse, Fountains, Music and Visual Surprises

ANAHEIM, Calif. (January 28, 2015) - Three sensational new nighttime spectaculars will dazzle guests at the Disneyland Resort when the Diamond Celebration begins Friday, May 22, 2015. Nighttime will glitter as never before when the latest technology and immersive special effects lift the "Paint the Night" parade and "Disneyland Forever" fireworks spectacular beyond anything seen in the past at Disneyland Park. In Disney California Adventure Park, a new "World of Color" show featuring Mickey Mouse will tell the story of Walt Disney and the Happiest Place on Earth through fountains, film, animation, a stirring musical score and amazing visual surprises.

The electrifying new shows will take guests into the worlds of Disney stories like never before, celebrating 60 years of magic with a nighttime parade that shines with more than 1.5 million individually controlled lights - the first all-LED parade at the resort; a reinvention of the classic fireworks that adds projections to transform the park experience; and a moving, new version of "World of Color" that celebrates Walt Disney's dream for Disneyland.

In addition, the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland and Carthay Circle Theatre in Disney California Adventure will glisten and gleam for the celebration, each with its own diamond medallion. The Disneyland Resort and surrounding streets will sparkle with Diamond Celebration décor and festive banners in shades of Disneyland blue. Also bearing the diamond anniversary theme, creative merchandise and food items will be designed to complement the celebration.

"Sixty years ago, Walt Disney welcomed the first guests to Disneyland. Nearly 3 billion guest visits later, it's amazing to contemplate all that Disney Parks and Resorts represents to so many people around the world," said Tom Staggs, Chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "We've conceived the Disneyland Diamond Anniversary as a celebration of this special place that started it all. Disneyland was envisioned as a place that encourages all of us to be 'forever young,' in part by being forever young itself so we're celebrating not just the last 60 years, but all that is yet to come."

Innovation Inspires Exciting Future

When Walt Disney opened Disneyland on July 17, 1955, he inaugurated a tradition of innovative, immersive storytelling that inspired classic theme park attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain, Star Tours, Soarin' Over California, Toy Story Midway Mania and Radiator Springs Racers. The Diamond Celebration will continue this tradition with three fantastic new shows that expand the boundaries of after-dark entertainment - Disney's signature "kiss goodnight."

"Paint the Night" parade - New technology and unleashed imagination permeate this after-dark parade, flooding Main Street, U.S.A., in Disneyland with vibrant color and more than 1.5 million, brilliant LED lights that flash and glow as they bring Disney stories to life. The luminescent parade introduces a new era of magical entertainment, as Mickey Mouse uses his imagination to harness the power of Tinker Bell's pixie dust and "Paint the Night" in dazzling Disney dreams. Those dreams include special appearances by Mickey's pals and beloved characters from tales such as "Monsters, Inc.," "Cars," "The Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast," "Toy Story" and "Frozen." The parade features special effects, unforgettable music, energetic performances, fun surprises and spectacular floats, with Mickey leading the grand finale.

"Disneyland Forever" fireworks spectacular - The Disneyland Resort tradition of creating big, dazzling fireworks shows will soar to new levels as "Disneyland Forever" immerses guests in stories from the tips of their toes to the sky high above. Thanks to the largest installation of projection mapping technology in a Disney park and surprising special effects, guests will find themselves transported into the worlds of beloved Disney and Disney-Pixar films, including a dance with King Louie from the "The Jungle Book" and a flight over London with characters from "Peter Pan." Showing just how magical the Magic Kingdom can be, the fireworks "stage" will extend to Main Street, U.S.A., "it's a small world," Rivers of America and the Matterhorn as projections transform familiar park icons into stunning story scenes. Two original songs also will be featured, the theme "Live the Magic," and the inspiring closing song "Kiss Goodnight," written by Disney Legend Richard Sherman. "Disneyland Forever" will be visible from Main Street, U.S.A., and several Disneyland locations.

fireworks-disneyland-60th-anniversary.jpg

"World of Color - Celebrate! The Wonderful World of Walt Disney" - Mickey Mouse will entertain guests as mischievous host of this fun-filled new presentation of the popular, nighttime "World of Color" spectacular in Disney California Adventure. Illuminating the night in a contemporary and moving celebration of Walt Disney and his dream of Disneyland, Mickey Mouse will take guests on an inspirational journey through the unparalleled imagination of Walt Disney, exploring his decades-long legacy of memorable animated moments and the dream of Disneyland Park. Both epic and intimate in scope, "World of Color - Celebrate!" brings to life the remarkable story of Walt and The Happiest Place on Earth with animated imagery, live-action film, fountains, lasers, special effects and a stirring musical score, all on the magical water canvas of "World of Color."

A Source of Joy and Inspiration to the World

The popularity of Disneyland through nearly 60 years celebrates Walt Disney's dream of a place where family members of all ages can have fun together in an atmosphere that emphasizes imagination, fantastic storytelling and extraordinary guest service. Since 1955, dignitaries, heads of state, celebrities and more than 700 million guests have passed through the gates of a place that Walt imagined as "a source of joy and inspiration to the world."

Disneyland transformed the amusement industry with an entirely new concept in family entertainment: a "theme park" where rides, shows, characters, merchandise and cast members in costume become part of a total storytelling environment. In the nearly six decades since it opened, the Disneyland Resort has continued to use creativity, technology and innovation to bring stories to life, while fulfilling Walt's promise that "Disneyland will never be completed as long as there is imagination left in the world."

The success of Disneyland Resort also has resulted in immense growth for the city of Anaheim, Calif. The resort's workforce of 27,000 cast members makes it the largest single-site employer in Orange County. From the original Disneyland Park, the entertainment concept has expanded worldwide and is enjoyed by guests at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla, Tokyo Disney Resort in Japan, Disneyland Paris in France, Hong Kong Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Vacation Club, Adventures by Disney and Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii. Shanghai Disney Resort is now under construction in China.

Additional information about the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration will be shared in the coming months at www.Disneyland.com and www.DisneyParksBlog.com.
