Disney’s Animal Programs Works with New England Aquarium to Aid Sea Turtles

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Dec. 28, 2012 --The Seas with Nemo & Friends welcomed some new swimmers recently, with the addition of eight Kemp's Ridley sea turtles suffering from hypothermia after a recent cold snap in New England.

As a licensed wildlife rehabilitation center, Walt Disney World Resort is one of several organizations working with the New England Aquarium to provide medical care for the weak sea turtles after the New England Aquarium sea turtle hospital reached capacity. Disney's Animal Programs' team members picked up the sea turtles and provided thorough medical assessments including x-rays and blood tests.

Sea turtles are vulnerable to cold weather and frigid waters that lower their body temperatures and slow their metabolism, which could lead to life-threatening comas.

"The team at Disney's Animal Kingdom and The Seas with Nemo & Friends celebrate and conserve turtles and tortoises every day," said Jackie Ogden, Ph.D., vice president, of Animals, Science and Environment for Disney Parks. "Over the years, our animal care team has nursed more than 300 endangered sea turtles back to health and released them back to the wild."

Currently, Disney's animal care experts are focused on increasing the turtles' body weight and strength for open water swimming in the ocean. According to the care team, the sea turtles are eating well and recovering nicely. The ultimate goal is to release them into the wild, under direction of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

In addition to caring for the Kemp's Ridley sea turtles, Disney's Animal Programs Cast Members have transported cold-stunned loggerhead sea turtles to other rehabilitation centers in Florida.

Did you know?

-- Disney's Animal Programs often is called upon to help distressed animals. Disney animal care experts help to support the rescue and rehabilitation of hundreds of injured and orphaned animals every year.

-- Since its inception, the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund has directed more than $1.1 million to sea turtle conservation efforts.

MyMagic+ Latest in Innovation in the Evolution of the Disney Guest Experience

Since the opening of Disneyland in 1955, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has continued to push the boundaries of creativity and innovation to connect guests with the stories and characters they cherish most and deliver legendary guest service. Disney Cast, Crew and Imagineers constantly ask themselves, "How can we take what we do and do it even better?"

Recent Disney Innovations: A Holistic Approach

Disney Parks continually evaluate all aspects of a guest's visit -- from vacation planning to resort hotels to attractions and entertainment - with the goal of creating a seamless, worry-free experience that enables them to focus on creating memories with family and friends.

Recent examples of Disney Parks' efforts to take the guest experience to the next level include:

• Interactive queues at Walt Disney World attractions like Haunted Mansion, Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid and Test Track immerse guests in the story before they ever set foot in the attraction. Guests don't feel like they are waiting in line at all at Dumbo the Flying Elephant, where parents can relax in the air -conditioned big top while their children play.

• Creativity and technology merge seamlessly in attractions like Radiator Springs Racers and shows like World of Color at Disney California Adventure. At Walt Disney World Resort, Turtle Talk with Crush and Enchanted Tales with Belle offer a personalized experience with favorite characters that is different every time a guest visits.

• Interactive experiences like Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, Disney Phineas & Ferb: Agent P's World Showcase Adventure at Epcot and The Cast of the Stolen Show starring the Muppets on the Disney Fantasy cruise ship enable guest to explore their Disney destination in new ways.

"Over the past few years, we've continued to build on our legacy of innovation to take the entire Disney Guest experience to a new level. Our goal is to deliver a more immersive, more seamless and more personal experience to each and every Guest who spends time with us." - Tom Staggs, chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

Making "How" Guests Experience Disney Parks Even Better: MyMagic+

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is taking another step forward to evolve "how" guests experience Disney Parks and is using technology to make it easier than ever before for guests to make the most of their Walt Disney World visit. Many of these efforts fall under the umbrella of MyMagic+, which has the ability to connect nearly all aspects of the guest experience and make it better for everyone, at no additional charge.

1. A new website and mobile app called My Disney Experience provides a one--stop shop for all things Walt Disney World throughout every phase of a guest's vacation. It will enable guests to:

• Get more information on all Walt Disney World Resort has to offer, from resort hotels and attractions to dining and merchandise.

• Design the overall experience they want, planning as much or as little as they wish.

• Make dining and other reservations and FastPass+ selections.

• Connect with family and friends to coordinate plans and share photos.

2. Disney FastPass+ service. Guests will be able to select FastPass+ attractions and entertainment experiences through My Disney Experience before they leave home and make changes on the go. For the first time, guests will be able to reserve firework and parade viewing areas, shows, Disney Character Greetings and more, in addition to their favorite attractions.

• For guests who don't know where to start, Disney will recommend FastPicks - a set of three FastPass+ selections that serve as a starting point - and give guests the option to customize their selections.

• Disney FastPass+ service is included with Theme Park admission.

3. MagicBand. Worn on the wrist, the colorful MagicBand is an all-"in-"one device that effortlessly connects all the vacation choices guests make online with My Disney Experience.

• Guests can use their MagicBand to enter their Disney Resort hotel room, buy food and merchandise, and enter Walt Disney World theme parks and water parks. Plus, the MagicBand provides FastPass+ access to all the experiences selected and serves as the connection to Disney's PhotoPass .

• The MagicBand is initially available to select Walt Disney World Resort hotel guests and guests who purchase other specific products. Other guests will be able to use their standard ticket to access the benefits of MyMagic+, such as making FastPass+ selections on My Disney Experience.

Like any offering, MyMagic+ will evolve over time based on guest and Cast feedback. Additional features are in development and will be introduced in the future.

Key Leadership Changes Announced at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts

George A. Kalogridis Named President of the Walt Disney World Resort and Michael Colglazier Named President of the Disneyland Resort;
Meg Crofton to Focus on Her Role as President, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Operations, U.S. and France
BURBANK, Calif. (Jan. 9, 2013) - Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Tom Staggs today announced key leadership changes across one of the world's leading providers of family travel and leisure experiences to better position the organization for growth. Effective Feb. 1, Meg Crofton will fully assume her global role as president, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Operations, U.S. and France - a position she has held since July 2011 - while concurrently serving as president of Walt Disney World. With Meg's transition complete, George A. Kalogridis is named president of the Walt Disney World Resort, and Michael Colglazier is named president of the Disneyland Resort. Both Kalogridis and Colglazier's roles are also effective Feb. 1.

"With all that we currently have in flight across our resort destinations in the U.S. and France, the time is right to move forward with this leadership transition," said Staggs. "This group of Disney veterans has the knowledge and expertise needed to continue delivering on our legacy of creating unforgettable experiences that our guests have come to know and expect. I would like to thank Meg for her tireless devotion and the extraordinary contributions serving in both positions, and wish George and Michael the best of luck in their new roles. They both bring a wealth of operational expertise, leadership and passion to these roles, which will contribute to the success of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts."

With the appointment of a Walt Disney World president, Crofton will focus all of her attention to providing strategic oversight of the broader initiatives that impact Disney destinations in the U.S. and France.

Kalogridis brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and expertise to his new role at Walt Disney World, including more than 40 years of experience at Disney parks in a number of positions around the world. Most recently as president of the Disneyland Resort, he oversaw one of the most extensive expansion projects in the Resort's history -- including the immensely successful transformation of Disney California Adventure. Throughout his career, Kalogridis also has proven himself to be a leader in the travel and leisure industry, as well as a respected partner in the community.

For the last several years, Colglazier has served as head of Disney's Animal Kingdom where he has been instrumental in the planning and development of an Avatar-themed land. He brings more than two decades of wide-ranging experience to his new role at the Disneyland Resort, including leadership positions in Operations, Global Development, Operations Strategy and Technology and Strategic Planning.

The company also announced several other corresponding changes. As part of the organization's approach to providing new opportunities and challenges to leaders, each of these transitions is designed to give seasoned executives the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of the segment's diverse businesses and operations around the world.

Claire Bilby will relocate to Paris as senior vice president, Sales and Marketing Disneyland Paris and Europe, reporting to Leslie Ferraro, executive vice president of Global Marketing and Sales and Philippe Gas, CEO of Euro Disney S.A.S. Bilby has held a variety of executive positions around the world, including several in sales and marketing, and most recently she has been instrumental in leading the Disney Vacation Club business, making it a priority to deliver an exceptional experience to the more than 175,000 Member families.

As a result of Bilby's new position, Ken Potrock has been named senior vice president and general manager, Disney Vacation Club and Adventures by Disney, reporting to Karl Holz, president of New Vacation Operations and Disney Cruise Line. Throughout his Disney career, Potrock has been a leader in a wide array of Parks and Resorts businesses, and has become known as a creative catalyst with deep experience in marketing and operations. Most recently leading both the sports and Downtown Disney organizations, his leadership abilities have been apparent with the sports business and the unprecedented growth of the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend.

Bastos Reclaims Crown at 20th Annual Walt Disney World Marathon

Perennial champion wages another fierce battle with countryman and two-time champ Fredison Costa down the stretch; Victory is Bastos' eighth at Disney; Virginia's Renee High repeats as women's champion; Record 65,000-plus participate in weekend's events

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Jan. 13, 2013) - Perhaps it was fitting that at the 20th annual Walt Disney World Marathon the greatest champion in the event's history - Brazil's Adriano Bastos - reclaimed his place in the victory circle Sunday.

Bastos, who had won seven previous Disney Marathons, including six straight before losing the last two to countryman Fredison Costa, this time held off Costa down the stretch for his eighth victory at the place Where Dreams Come True.

Bastos, 34, lost to Costa, 35, at the 2011 Disney Marathon after getting ill the night before the race, then was edged by him again last year, finishing just 14 seconds behind. Bastos, who trains with Costa, said the two-year drought was extra motivation coming into this year's race, especially given that it was the 20th annual event.

"It was extra motivation, for sure," Bastos, wearing a Donald Duck hat, said through an interpreter.

In a wire-to-wire duel between Bastos and Costa that has become commonplace at the Disney Marathon, Bastos flipped the script on Costa, winning the late-race sprint this time in the final half mile. Bastos, whose goal is to win 10 Disney Marathons, broke the tape at 2:21:16, just 16 seconds ahead of Costa (2:21:32).

Renee High continued the trend of repeat champions by finishing as the top female runner for the second straight year. High of Virginia Beach, Va., ran the 26.2-mile race through all four Disney theme parks, the Disney Speedway and Disney's sports complex, in 2:48:30, three seconds quicker than a year ago.

In the men's Masters division, Ronnie Holassie of Miramar, Fla., came in first with a time of 2:25:26. Wendy Nixon of Windermere, Fla., was the first female across the finish line at 3:22:14.

In the wheelchair division, Krige Schabort of Cedartown, Ga., took the men's title (1:52:52) and Jacqui Kapinowski of Tequesta, Fla., grabbed the women's crown (2:32:57).

In all, more than 25,000 runners, including former pop star Joey Fatone, competed in the Disney Marathon presented by Cigna on Sunday. Roughly 10,000 of those runners also ran the Disney Half Marathon the day before as part of Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge - running the half and the full marathon on consecutive days (39.3 miles). The weekend event drew unprecedented interest this year, selling out less than five months after registration began, marking one of the fastest sellouts in the event's history.

Runners from around the country and beyond have been undoubtedly drawn to the event because of several unique features tied to the 20th marathon, such as new course twists, the new Mickey Mouse medal and the post-race party at Downtown Disney.

The Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend presented by Cigna featured events for the entire family such as Kids' Races, a Family Fun Run 5K on Friday, the Half Marathon on Saturday and the Marathon on Sunday. A Health and Fitness Expo ran throughout the weekend at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and featured the latest in running technology and fashion, as well as renowned running experts like Jeff Galloway, the official training consultant for runDisney.

Wilderness Explorers Coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom

Fans of Disney/Pixar's movie UP will be excited to learn that about a new adventure coming to Animal Kingdom, Wilderness Explorers.

Remember Russell? the stowaway in Up. He is a Wilderness Explorer and loves to earn badges through his adventures!

Just like Russell, now you too will be able to become a Wilderness Explorer with new adventures in Animal Kingdom and the possibility of earning up to 30 badges.

Disney California Adventure already has a version of the Wilderness Explorer Program.

At the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail guests are given the opportunity to become Senior Wilderness Explorers.

At the entrance, cast members are giving out a pamphlet which describe the tasks that must be completed to earn the Tracking, Bravery, Rock Climbing, Wolf Howl, Animal Spirit, and Puzzle Solving badges.

One of the first things to do is to find Kevin's tracks. Whether or not someone has completed the tasks is on the honor system - for each task just scratch off the silver coating on the pamphlet to reveal the badge that was earned.

Upon completing all the tasks prospective Explorers can attend the Wilderness Explorer Ceremony. Russell eventually arrives and everyone is promoted to Senior Wilderness Explorer. After the ceremony there is a meet-and-greet with Russell, which is where they hand out the Senior Wilderness Explorer badge.

The program in Disney's Animal Kingdom should be much different with an entire park full of birds and animals and many possible adventures! It will open this spring.

SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment Launches New Mobile Websites and Ticketing

SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment Launches New Mobile Websites
and Ticketing for SeaWorld and Busch Gardens Parks

Orlando, Fla. (Jan. 17, 2013) -SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment launched new mobile websites for the three SeaWorld and two Busch Gardens parks last week, providing guests and fans with a convenient and easy way to plan their vacations and purchase and redeem tickets directly from their mobile devices.

SeaWorld and Busch Gardens are some of the first in the theme park industry to effectively use mobile sites with geo-location capabilities. When a guest is near one of the SeaWorld or Busch Gardens parks and connects to the website, the guest's phone will immediately default to driving directions. However, if the guest is actually in the park, the site will automatically default to a park map so they can find their next adventure without missing a beat. Receiving the most relevant content, products, offers and promotions based on their location to the parks are just some of the many intuitive features mobile users can now experience.

"These mobile sites have been in development for several months and we are excited about the incredibly positive response we've already seen from guests," said Anne Fischer, Director of Interactive Marketing for SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. "With ever-increasing mobile traffic to our parks, guests can expect more exciting mobile websites, products, apps and systems designed to make their lives more convenient in the near future."

The sites provide guests with a simplified mobile purchase experience with images, text and easy steps for the entire process. Once the purchase process is complete, guests will receive their digital admission ticket directly on their phone, allowing them to proceed directly to the front gate for entry to the park.

Unlike other theme park mobile sites, guests can not only purchase single day tickets, but also multi-park and season passes, allowing guests to save money and time. Based on the tickets purchased, the sites will suggest additional experiences and adventures, including behind-the-scenes tours, up-close animal interactions or dining options to make their visit to the park even more memorable.

The new sites were designed to work with some of the most popular cell phone operating systems, including Apple, Android and Windows.

"Known for their sound and practical advice, the panelists continue to be a great resource, helping even more guests make unforgettable Disney memories."

In September 2012, thousands of hopefuls from around the world submitted applications for a seat on the panel. From the many passionate applications, 19 new moms and dads have taken their seat with the 2013 Disney Parks Moms Panel.

Meet the first new members of the Disney Parks Moms Panel:

- Allison Lemme; Plano, Texas (Walt Disney World) - A hospitality management professional turned stay-at-home mom, Allison spends her days specializing in serving daily doses of magic to her family of five. She also enjoys blogging and donating her time to local organizations and charities.

- Angie Gregg; Hummelstown, Pa. (Team Sports Mom) - Busy mom to two soccer-loving princesses and wife of a professional soccer coach, it's no surprise that team sports are a big deal in the Gregg household! When she's not attending a game or working as a medical coder, Angie loves to exercise and participate in races.

- Audra Anders; Dunwoody, Ga. (Team Sports Mom) - From the gridiron to the pitcher's mound, Audra loves to take on the role of team mom for her two athletic sons. The Anders family has made major-league memories at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, and Audra looks forward to helping others do the same!

- Courtney Bautista; Fresno, Calif. (Disneyland Resort) - As a Southern California native, Courtney "grew up Disney," making frequent visits to Disneyland Resort. Now as a parent, she looks to share the Disney lifestyle with her son and husband; as a family, they love to participate in pin trading and experience all the fabulous food options Disney has to offer.

- Derek Hoffman; Washington, D.C. (Walt Disney World) - Tax consultant by day and magic-maker by night, this Disney dad loves helping others plan memory-filled vacations. A self proclaimed "Waltophile," Derek honeymooned at the place where dreams come true and has taken semiannual trips to his "happy place" ever since.

- Jackie Gailey; Savannah, Ga. (Walt Disney World) - A perpetual spreader of Pixie Dust, Jackie incorporates Disney into all aspects of her life, and that of her husband, son and daughter. Her Disney vacation experience spans from coast to coast, and she can't wait to share her love of the Mouse on the Moms Panel.

- Jacqui Clark; Chicago, Ill. (Walt Disney World) - Jacqui lives her life by the mantra "Adventure is out there!" From domestic Disney resorts to Disneyland Paris and the decks of Disney Cruise Line, the Clark family has experienced memories and milestones a plenty with Disney. When she's not planning vacations, Jacqui works as a substitute teacher and volunteers in her community.

- Kari Krueger; College Station, Texas (Disney Vacation Club) - The words "Welcome Home!" are dear to the Krueger family. Kari and her husband became Disney Vacation Club members before the birth of their two children, taking annual vacations around the world all on their points. By day, Kari is the executive director of a non-profit, helping people with autism and other disabilities lead independent lives.

- Kimberly Lucci; Bridgewater, N.J. (Walt Disney World) - A college professor turned stay-at-home mom, Kimberly shares her love of the Mouse with her husband and daughter. She can often be found sharing her personal park-planning tips on vegetarian eating and traveling with disabilities at Disney.

- Kristen deHaan; Puebla, Mexico (Adventures by Disney/Aulani) - Originally hailing from Ontario, Canada, Kristen lives an international life with her husband and three children. Between multiple Disney Cruise Line sailings, half a dozen Adventures by Disney departures and countless Disney Vacation Club excursions, Kristen is a pro at traveling the globe with Disney.

- Mandy Milhoan; Greenville, S.C. (Walt Disney World) - As the mother of five, Mandy knows the importance of vacationing on a budget. Whether it's a romantic getaway for two, a girls weekend or full-out family vacation, Mandy uses her "bloodhound's nose for bargains" to experience Disney as often as possible.

- Marcy Galloway; Cincinnati, Ohio (Disney Cruise Line) - From first sight of the life-sized pirate schooner in their backyard, you can tell the Galloway family is up for an ocean adventure! Marcy takes the helm of her home ship, leading her husband and two children on magical Disney Cruise Line vacations.

- Miguel Olmo-Rodríguez; Guaynabo, Puerto Rico (Spanish-language) - An environmental planning consultant by trade, Miguel is an avid researcher and meticulous planner - skills he uses to create unforgettable Disney vacations for his family. He is thrilled to be the first bilingual dad to answer questions in Spanish on the panel.

- Mona Leigh Guha; Columbia, Md. (Disney Vacation Club) - Her Ph.D. might be in Human Development, but most friends refer to Mona Leigh as "Dr. Disney." When she's not conducting research for the University of Maryland, Mona Leigh can be found planning Disney Vacation Club getaways for her husband and daughter.

- Raquel Cummings; Cedar Hill, Texas (Walt Disney World) - Special touches are a hallmark of every Cummings family Disney vacation. Whether they are sailing with Disney Cruise Line or enjoying Disney Parks with Disney Vacation Club points, Raquel knows that it's the little touches and lesser-known experiences that can make for big magic.

- Sherri Cuda; Crete, Ill. (Walt Disney World) - Traveling with dietary restrictions? This Midwestern mom of two and property manager is your gal! She's done Disney in every way - as a prior Cast Member, from solo trips to Grand Gatherings - sampling more than 70 dining options along the way.

- Stephanie Gibbon; Brantford, Ontario (Walt Disney World) - You can't top this Canuck on traveling to Disney! When she's not busy teaching third grade or spending quality time with her family, Stephanie loves giving advice on the best ways to cross the border and make magical memories at Disney. Parlez-vous français? She shares tips in French too!

- Wilma Norton; St. Petersburg, Fla. (Walt Disney World) - Living just 90 minutes from the Magic Kingdom gates has allowed Wilma and her family to enjoy countless Walt Disney World vacations as annual passholders. She prefers to stay on-property and has visited almost every resort, eatery and attraction the park has to offer.

- Yael Londoño; Dania Beach, Fla. (Spanish-language) - Yael is her name and pin trading is her game! This mom of three has visited Walt Disney World more than 100 times, with the goal of collecting a pin at each on-property resort. In Yael's opinion, you are never too young to experience Disney - her daughter's visit was at just 17 days old!

The new panel will be joined by select alumni panelists - representing all previous panels - to help answer the influx of Disney vacation questions submitted to the site each week. In addition to browsing answers, guests can access a variety of helpful how-to videos in both English and Spanish. Along with the new name, Disney Parks will look to revamp the Moms Panel website in 2013 with exciting new features, blog content and mobile-friendly options.

"'Let's get the party started' isn't an Irish phrase, but it aptly describes the spirit of a true Irish brunch back home," said Raglan Road manager Lorraine Gorham, who was born in County Mayo, west Ireland. "And that's what The Rollicking Raglan Sunday Brunch is all about."

The restaurant, a Diners' Choice 2012 award winner, is known for its beer-battered fish and chips, as well as its Shepherd's pie with a contemporary twist, delectable seafood, Kevin's Heavenly Ham and other popular entrees. Desserts like the Ger's Bread & Butter Pudding and the decadently chocolate Dunbrody Kiss are just as popular and also available at Sunday Brunch. Raglan Road also offers gluten-free items including scallops, fish and chips, calamari, onion rings and pasta dishes.

Owned and operated by Irish partners Paul Nolan, John Cooke and celebrity chef Kevin Dundon - famous for his five-star hotel and cookery school in Ireland - Raglan Road features traditional Irish dishes and new creations with a Celtic twist. The restaurant's warm interior of aged walnut and mahogany woods from old Irish bars and churches was built in Ireland and shipped to Orlando. Live entertainment nightly includes Irish house band Creel (Monday through Saturday and Sunday Brunch) and Irish musicians Johnny Norton & Justin Murphy (Sundays) plus Irish dance performances. On the pub patio, Irish musicians Sean Farrell & Shane Farrell play Tuesday through Sunday evenings. Lunch is served 11 a.m.-3 p.m.; Dinner 3-11 p.m.; Bar menu 11 p.m.-late.
