December 1, 2010

SAN FRANCISCO November 30, 2010 - The Walt Disney Family Museum opened its doors in the Presidio of San Francisco almost a year ago on October 1, and to commemorate its first anniversary, the Museum had announced the launch of a YouTube Video Contest.

From September 27 to November 15, 2010, participants were invited to submit a short promotional video about the one-of-a-kind Museum that explores the fascinating life of Walt Disney, which includes ten interactive galleries that feature early drawings and animation, movies, music, listening stations, a 14-foot model of Disneyland and much more.

The Walt Disney Family Museum had produced a short instructional video to outline the contest rules and regulations, which can be viewed at http://wdfmuseum.squarespace.com/contest and at www.youtube.com/user/WDFMuseum.

It was a tough decision, but after a lot of thought and deliberation, we are proud to announce our Contest winners!

Contest Winners:
The Grand Prize package goes to RAY BAILEY. Ray will receive a 3 hour editorial session in the WDFM Learning Center Media Studio, a Kodak PlaySport camera, a personal, behind-the-scenes tour of the Museum, dinner for two at La Terrasse Restaurant in the Presidio of San Francisco, as well as a Dual Membership, and a goodie bag from the Museum Store-which includes an autographed copy of the Museum's book.

The second prize winner goes to CHARLIE WOOD. Charlie will receive an individual one-year membership to the Museum, goodie bag from the store, and an autographed copy of "The Man, the Magic and the Memories", while the third prize winner, Andres Gonzalez, will walk away with free admission to the Museum, a $50 gift certificate to the Museum Store, and a copy of the book.

All winners and winning videos can be viewed on STORYBOARD (http://wdfmuseum.squarespace.com).

The fascinating and inspiring story of Walt Disney, whose artistry, imagination and vision helped define 20th-century America, has been brought to life at The Walt Disney Family Museum in the Presidio of San Francisco. The Museum illuminates Walt Disney's tremendous successes, disappointments, and unyielding optimism as he worked tirelessly to advance the art of animation, produce classic motion pictures and develop the first great American theme park. The Walt Disney Family Museum, L.L.C. is owned and operated by the Walt Disney Family Foundation, a non-profit foundation. 50 and Fabulous Screenings

At D23 Expo 2009, Disney fans were invited to view Disney film masterpieces that were celebrating their golden anniversaries - beloved animated classics and live-action family friendly films rarely seen on the big screen in the past 50 years. The D23 tradition continued in 2010, this time in the recently renovated, state-of-the-art 400-seat Studio Theatre on the Walt Disney Studio Lot in Burbank.

The 2011 season of 50 and Fabulous begins January 22 on the Burbank Lot. Tickets to the screenings are free (with a $5 ticket processing fee) for D23 Members and one guest, and will include special D23 surprises. The schedule is as follows:

· January 22: 101 Dalmatians - Released originally January 25, 1961, the smash hit was rereleased in 1969, 1979, 1985 and 1991. Along with the memorable song "Cruella de Vil," 101 Dalmatians is known for originating the term "Twilight Bark" (the system which dogs across the countryside use to communicate with one another), which also happens to be the name of the quick news bits section of the D23 Web site!

· March 12: The Absent-Minded Professor - Originally released March 16, 1961, the film stars Fred MacMurray - the first Disney Legend - as Medfield College's Professor Ned Brainard, the inventor of the magical Flubber. The film also features the "Medfield Fight Song," the first song ever penned by Richard and Robert Sherman for a Disney movie.

· June 18: The Parent Trap - Originally released June 21, 1961, the film was lauded not just for its imaginative story but for its technical advances. Disney legend Hayley Mills plays both twins Sharon and Susan, separated as children by their divorced parents, who set in motion a plan to reunite their estranged parents. The Parent Trap earned Academy Award® nominations for editing and sound.

· Nov 19: Babes in Toyland - Starring Ray Bolger, Annette Funicello, Ed Wynn, Tommy Sands, Ann Jillian, Tommy Kirk and Kevin Corcoran, Babes in Toyland was released December 14, 1961 and has become a holiday favorite. Revisit Tom (Sands) and Mary (Funicello) as they prepare to wed in Mother Goose Village while dodging the evil Barnaby (Bolger). The Forest of No Return, an incredible gun that shrinks its targets and, of course, the many beloved songs, are all part of this magical adventure.

D23 Tours at the Walt Disney Studios and Archives

D23 continues to offer this rare opportunity for D23 Members to enjoy a two-and-a-half hour tour of The Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Archives, hosted by D23 and Walt Disney Archives staff. Space is very limited. The 2011 tour dates are:

· February 5

· April 30

As with all live events, dates and times are subject to change. D23 is in the planning stages for even more exciting 2011 activities, details of which will be revealed in the coming months.

Walt Disney World Resort, Steve Harvey, Essence Magazine Announce the 100 Students Selected for Fourth Disney’s Dreamers Academy

High School Teens from Coast to Coast Will Attend
the Ultimate Outside-the-Classroom Education Experience

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Dec. 6, 2010) - Walt Disney World Resort, in collaboration with nationally syndicated radio personality Steve Harvey and Essence Magazine, the leading communications company dedicated to African-American women, has announced the selection of 100 high school students from across the country to participate in Disney's Dreamers Academy class of 2011.

Dreamers will travel to Walt Disney World Resort in March 2011 to participate in immersive workshops focusing on a variety of subjects including Walt Disney Imagineering techniques, entertainment, entrepreneurship and culinary arts. Disney experts, world-renowned entrepreneurs and celebrities will share their blueprints for success, upholding the program's mission to motivate, empower and inspire young adults.

Tracey Walters-Powell, executive champion of the program for Disney Parks & Resorts, said, "Disney's Dreamers Academy is a perfect platform to further the goal, shared by Disney Parks, Essence Communications and - it goes without saying - by Steve Harvey, to inspire children. We are genuinely excited about the possibilities ahead."

Walt Disney World Resort and Steve Harvey developed Disney's Dreamers Academy in an effort to unveil a world of possibilities, inspire teens to dream big and help them to get started on their career paths. Launched in 2007, the program was designed to motivate high school students in grades 9-12 to achieve their dreams personally and professionally. Earlier this fall, parents, teachers, school administrators, church groups and students nominated thousands of aspiring Dreamers for the program. The criteria used to select the Dreamers included exhibiting curiosity, compassion and leadership skills. Selected students, no matter their background, share common traits: the power to BELIEVE and DREAM. The program allows teens the opportunity to learn the process through which to attain their goals.

"Each year we strive to find young people who may have a will or passion, but may not have the courage to explore their dreams." Harvey said. "So we hope to unlock the power that will allow them to pursue their hearts' desires. Walt Disney World, Essence Magazine and I are excited to be a part of these young Dreamers' experience that will encourage them to bring their dreams to life."

Disney's Dreamers Academy is dedicated to the complete advancement of youth. The goal is for each participant to leave knowing that no Dream is too far-fetched. These students and their parent or guardian will be given unprecedented access to the enchantment behind Walt Disney World Resort.

Earlier this year Essence Communications joined forces with Disney Parks and Steve Harvey to help take Disney's Dreamers Academy to the "next level."

Essence Communications President Michelle Ebanks said, "Essence is closely aligned with Disney and Steve Harvey in supporting the mission of Disney's Dreamers Academy and its commitment to positively impacting our youth. Disney's Dreamers Academy is helping teens take steps in the right direction, and we want to be right there with the students, both encouraging them and sharing their stories."

Participants for the 2011 Disney's Dreamers Academy class were selected by a distinguished panel of judges including: Steve Harvey; Yolanda Adams (Gospel Music Legend); Angela Burt-Murray (former editor-in-chief, Essence Magazine); Dr. Steve Perry (Education Advocate and CNN commentator); Dalonte Hall (DDA Dreamer, Class of 2010); Terrence J (MTV Personality); Carole Munroe (Director of Media Relations, Disney Parks & Resorts); Tracey Powell (Director of Pricing, Disney Parks & Resorts); Stella Ringer (Marketing Manager, The Coca-Cola Company); Lorraine Robertson (Blogger) and Stephen A. Smith (Broadcaster/Sports Analyst).

Thirteen students from New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., who missed the 2010 program due to inclement weather, have been invited to experience the magic of Disney's Dreamers Academy along with the 2011 class.

The 2011 Disney's Dreamers Academy will take place March 3-6, 2011, at Walt Disney World Resort, near Orlando in central Florida. The complete list of the 2011 class is below. For more information, visit www.disneysdreamersacademy.com.

Fantasyland Expansion Update

As work continues on the previously announced expansion of Fantasyland, the last day of operation for Mickey's Toontown Fair will be February 11, 2011. After that date, the following changes will take effect:

· Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and the Disney princesses will move to Town Square in the location currently known as Town Square Exposition Hall in spring 2011. Until that location is ready, they will greet guests throughout Magic Kingdom Park at locations to be determined.

· Tinker Bell will be relocating to Disney's Hollywood Studios. Her other fairy friends will appear later in the spring at Epcot.

· The Walt Disney World Railroad will stay open but the Toontown station will be closed during construction.

Once Mickey's Toontown Fair has closed, there are a number of other options for guests looking for similar experiences:

· The Barnstormer at Goofy's Wiseacre Farms has a 35" height requirement. Guests looking for other attractions with low height requirements can still experience the Tomorrowland Speedway, which has a 32" minimum for accompanied children. The next lowest height requirement is 40" at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain and Stitch's Great Escape!

· The Laughin' Place play area near Splash Mountain is a great alternative to Toon Park. It will continue to be available and is suitable for kids ages 2 through 5.

· Instead of Donald's Boat, guests may still enjoy a chance to cool off in Adventureland at the leaky tikis near The Magic Carpets of Aladdin.

· Balzac (inflatable ball) products will continue to be available from the cart in Tomorrowland located near the Cool Ship.

· The face painting area will close with Mickey's Toontown Fair. Guests looking for a fun makeover can stop by The Pirates League or Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique to inquire about availability. Face painting will continue to be available in the other Walt Disney World theme parks.

Evolution Nightclub on the Disney Dream

The club is one of five stylish spaces that make up The District, a nighttime playground for Disney Cruise Line guests 18 and older at the aft end of Deck 4. The interconnected areas continue to, well, evolve, as workers make final preparations for the first passengers to board the brand new ship in Florida next month.

Want an even closer look? Here's Michael Davie of Walt Disney Imagineering with a recent tour of three of the adults-only venues in The District - Evolution, Pink and Skyline.

Elsewhere in The District are 687, a modern interpretation of a traditional pub, and District Lounge, which will feature live entertainment nightly.

In just a few days, the Disney Dream starts the transatlantic voyage that will finally bring her to Florida early next month. I'll be aboard and will continue sharing exclusive sneak peeks as the ship draws closer to her inaugural cruise from Port Canaveral on January 26.

Disney Dream - Walt Disney Theatre

Takes your breath away, doesn't it? And that's just the entrance! What's even more amazing are the live shows that will take place inside every night.

By the way, don't mind the clutter in the adjacent retail shops. We're still getting the ship ready but we'll have everything tidied up by the time she reaches Port Canaveral in a couple weeks.

The 1,340-seat Walt Disney Theatre is located at the forward end of Deck 3 with balcony seating accessible from Deck 4. It's one of the most technologically advanced theaters at sea or on land and it's where our guests will be entertained every night with Broadway-style stage shows exclusive to Disney Cruise Line. During the day it'll also present first-run movies, including some in Disney Digital 3D.

At midship on Decks 4 and 5 is the 399-seat Buena Vista Theatre, an Art Deco cinema that will screen first-run films and other popular movies, some in Disney Digital 3D too.

Upcoming films that will premiere at sea on all three Disney Cruise Line ships the same day they debut on land include "Gnomeo & Juliet" (February 11, in Disney Digital 3D), "I Am Number Four" (February 18) and "Mars Needs Moms" (March 11, in Disney Digital 3D).

But enough from me. You want to see what's inside these terrific palaces, right?

Here's an exclusive preview of both theaters, including a few computer renderings and a sneak peek at rehearsals for the original stage spectacular that will debut aboard the Disney Dream, "Disney's Believe."

Meanwhile, the ship is finally on her way to Florida! The Disney Dream departed Bremerhaven, Germany, a couple days ago and is making the transatlantic voyage to Port Canaveral with a few brief stops planned in between.

A Year of 'Disney Dream Vacations' Will Take Guests Over the Horizon, Under the Sea and Beyond the Solar System

2011 Features New Adventures in Egypt, Hawaii, Alaska and More

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - 2011 will be a year of "Disney dream vacations," both figuratively and literally. Guests will be making memories over the horizon in Egypt, Hawaii and Alaska, on the aqua waters of the Bahamas, under the sea, over croc and rhino gullies and beyond the solar system.

During 2011, premieres will include an Adventures by Disney itinerary to the land of the pyramids, a Disney Parks virtual itinerary in stunning 3-D to the galaxy of Star Wars, a Disney's Animal Kingdom 'Wild Africa Trek' into the domain of fearsome and fascinating critters, and an experience at Disney California Adventure that plunges guests into the realm of "The Little Mermaid." Meanwhile, Disney Vacation Club will celebrate the opening of its first property away from the U.S. mainland, in romantic Hawaii, and Disney Cruise Line will launch the Disney Dream and expand the horizons for its existing ships.

Here are some of the details of what's in store:

Launch of Disney Dream (January 2011) - A first-of-its kind water coaster that sends guests racing above the upper decks of the ship. An animated turtle that engages children in conversation about life in the ocean. A sophisticated lounge where the sun sets over the skyline of a different world-famous city each night. The Disney Dream, newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, will bring to life these innovations and more, offering a cruise experience from stem to stern that caters to preferences of the whole family.
The Disney Dream, slated to set sail on Jan. 26, 2011, from Port Canaveral, Fla., will have three-to-five-night Bahamian itineraries. The ship has a capacity of 4,000 passengers. For a "boatload" of information about the new ship, go to www.disneycruise.com, click on the Ships & Activities tab and choose Disney Dream.

New horizons for Disney Cruise Line (beginning January 2011) - The Disney Wonder cruise ship will "go west" in early 2011. New West Coast itineraries for Disney Cruise Line will include, for the first time, Alaska cruises sailing from Vancouver. The Alaska cruises will combine the natural wonder and adventurous spirit of Alaska with the unparalleled guest experience provided by Disney Cruise Line. The Disney Wonder also is scheduled for cruises out of the Port of Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera, before and after the summer Alaska cruises. To learn more about Disney Cruise Line or to book a vacation, guests can visit www.disneycruise.com, call Disney Cruise Line at 888/DCL-2500 or contact their travel agent.

An African trek " in Florida (beginning January 2011) - A ravine of menacing-looking crocs, pools of hippos, bushwalks along untracked terrain and other thrills await guests on Wild Africa Trek, a unique wildlife experience launching Jan. 16, 2011, into the deepest, most-remote reaches of Disney's Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort. The three-hour, expert-led adventure will immerse small groups in an "up-close-and-personal" experience with African wildlife species that make their home in Pangani Forest as well as other areas of the park's Harambe Wildlife Reserve. Reservations can be arranged at 407/WDW-TOUR (939-8687).

Egyptian wonders ahead for Adventures by Disney (beginning April 2011) - Once upon a time, there were "seven wonders of the ancient world." Today, one remains: the Great Pyramid of Egypt. Adventures by Disney guests will step off of planes, cruise ships and camels into living chapters of history during seven- and nine-night Egypt itineraries. The pyramids and Great Sphinx in Giza, a Nile River cruise and days and nights in Cairo are all part of the experience. Disney Shares Details On New Hotel Jobs For Central Floridians

AOA Resort

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Dec. 16, 2010 - Plans for Disney's Art of Animation Resort mean new construction jobs for Central Floridians now and new permanent resort hotel jobs when the property opens in 2012.

Already in the land clearing stage, the project is expected to create up to 800 construction jobs. Once open by the end of 2012, Disney's Art of Animation Resort will also create 750 permanent resort hotel jobs, for a total of 1,550 jobs created. Walt Disney World Resort features 24 uniquely themed, Disney owned-and-operated resort hotels with more than 26,000 guest rooms. Disney's Art of Animation Resort will likewise be unique, with themed building exteriors and room interiors that bring to life The Lion King, Cars, Finding Nemo and The Little Mermaid.

Located adjacent to Disney's Pop Century Resort, the new resort will include 1,120 family suites in The Lion King, Cars and Finding Nemo wings, and 864 themed rooms in The Little Mermaid wings. Suites will feature both a living room and a bedroom, offering added space for families.

"The construction of family suites at Disney's Art of Animation Resort is an innovative approach to a changing marketplace," said Kevin Myers, vice president of resort operations for Walt Disney World Resort. "Today more and more multi-generational families are traveling together for various celebrations, including family reunions. These families not only want to play together, they want to stay together, which has created tremendous demand for family suites."

The larger-than-life icons depicted in newly-released renderings demonstrate one way guests at Disney's Art of Animation Resort will be immersed in their favorite stories. For example, guests exploring The Lion King courtyard will see characters from the film - like the hyenas and Simba's evil uncle, Scar - through the eyes of Simba and in the same size and scale as the young Lion King cub would experience them.

Disney's Art of Animation Resort will be a uniquely-themed 68,800-square-foot commercial building with shopping, dining and features such as three pools and a water play area.

The family suites and rooms at Disney's Art of Animation Resort will fit into the "value" category of lodging, with nightly rates similar to Disney's All-Star Resort and Disney's Pop Century Resort.

Holiday Surprise: Hero's Welcome Awaits Chilean Miners, Rescuers and Their Families at Walt Disney World Resort

BURBANK, Calif., Dec. 23, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- A New Year will mean new memories for the Chilean miners whose saga transfixed the world, as they are treated to a hero's welcome and family vacations of a lifetime at Walt Disney World Resort next month.

During their complimentary six-night Disney vacation, Jan. 27-Feb. 2, 2011, the miners, their rescuers and immediate families will meet Disney characters, visit all four Walt Disney World theme parks and serve as honorary Grand Marshals of the Main Street, U.S.A. parade in Magic Kingdom.

Trapped 2,300 feet inside the earth for 69 days in a collapsed Chilean mine, the men were pulled from the darkness in a miracle rescue. In one of the year's most touching stories, their unbending faith and endurance sustained them throughout the ordeal.

"The amazing story of these miners captured the attention of the world for demonstrating the true power and resilience of the human spirit," said Disney President and CEO Bob Iger. "We are proud to welcome these courageous men and their families to the Walt Disney World Resort."

The group will arrive to a welcome dinner with characters, dancing and Chilean cuisine prepared by Disney chefs. During their vacation, they also will be treated to a $500 gift card per family, a group photo in front of Cinderella Castle and personal photo albums of their visit.

Send a Hello Stamp

Since 1986, Pixar films have stretched the boundaries of our imagination with stories about unlikely heroes who explore the bonds of friendship and family. Now some of those heroes are the subjects of colorful new Send a Hello stamps that encourage people to connect with loved ones through the mail.

The Send a Hello stamps, which go on sale Aug. 19, are a natural outgrowth of the Art of Disney stamp series issued between 2004 and 2008. Originally intended as a series of three annual issuances depicting friendship, celebration, and romance, the Art of Disney stamps proved so popular that the Postal Service expanded the series to include issuances in 2007 and 2008 to celebrate imagination and magic.

Based on that success, the Postal Service was eager to work with the Walt Disney Company again, choosing to explore the Disney*Pixar films, which offer exciting, contemporary characters and strong themes involving family and friends.

This pane of 20 stamps includes five different designs featuring Pixar characters: Lightning McQueen and Mater from Cars (2006); Remy the rat and Linguini from Ratatouille (2007); Buzz Lightyear and two of the green, three-eyed aliens from Toy Story (1995); Carl Fredricksen and Dug from Up (2009); and the robot WALL*E from WALL*E (2008).

Since the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature was introduced in 2001, all seven Pixar films released since that time have been nominated and five of the seven have won, including Ratatouille, WALL*E and Up.
