D23's Destination D - Disneyland 55 - Intro and Registration

D23 Destination D

Disneyland celebrated it's 55th anniversary in July, so D23 decided to commemorate that milestone with a two-day event full of Disneyland History. Destination D was the first event of its kind organized by D23 on September 24-25, 2010! The event sold out with 1,300 tickets.

The two days of Destination D were jammed packed with just about anything you would want to know about Disneyland History. The event included many special guests and clip after clip of never before publicly seen videos (and even some audio!)

It was most definitely a "You Had to be There" event as no video, audio or flash photography were allowed. My photos of the event probably won't do it justice but hopefully it will give you a good look at the amazing two days of Disneyland history we were able to experience.

D23 Destination D

Registration went very smoothly on the first day (the day before the event actually began).

D23 Destination D

There was, of course, lots of D23 and Destination D merchandise for purchase. I was tempted by the complete set of the replica of early Epcot attraction patches (left) and the Disney Archives 40th anniversary pin (right).

D23 Destination D

Greeting everyone was the "Disney Geek" himself, Jeffrey Epstein!

D23 Destination D

Soon it was time to go back to the hotel and get ready for the AllEars Meet and Greet later that afternoon.

As I walked through the Disneyland hotel lobby a number of characters were walking around. They were kind enough to pose for me :)

Next up.. the AllEars Meet and Greet held that afternoon.

Weird Disney - Becky Cline and Paul Anderson

Weird Disney Destination D D23 Seminar

"From the startling visuals of the 1930's Fanchon and Marco "Mickey Mouse Idea" vaudeville shows to Disneyland's "Kap the Kaiser Aluminum Pig" and the "Crane Bathroom of Tomorrow", Disney's history has included some pretty offbeat stuff. Join Archives Director Becky Cline and Disney historian Paul Anderson as they act as your tour guides on a fun-filled, irreverent and often surprising road trip through the wonderfully weird and wacky side of Disney."

Weird Disney Destination D D23 Seminar

Becky and Paul did an entertaining and informative job of sharing Disney lore and the back-story to many of the photographs.

"Join original Mouseketeers Sharon Baird, Doreen Tracey, Bobby Burgess, Karen Pendleton, Sherry Van Meter, Tommy Cole, Cubby O'Brien and Mary Geoff for a magical walk down memory land as they recall their favorite behind-the-scenes stories from the classic Disneyland attraction Mickey Mouse Club Circus."

This was a very special hour listening to these Mouseketeers tell story after heart-felt story about their experiences on the Mickey Mouse Club. Special tributes were also shared for Annette, Roy and Jimmie. This was a not to be missed presentation! Seeing the Mouseketeers brought back SO many fond memories and getting to meet them in person, was priceless.

The morning of Day 1 also featured:

From Quirky to Collectible: The Wonderful World of Disneyland Merchandise- Stacia Martin, Paul Anderson, Rob Klein

"From a Mark Twain Riverboat AM radio to a Matterhorn bank, we'll present a treasure trove of timeless trinkets and unique souvenirs. Highlights include the Top 5 Rarest Pieces of Disneyanna and the Top 5 Strangest Items of Disneyland Memorabilia.

You didn't have to be a "collector" to enjoy this session of Disneyland Memorabilia. It was fascinating to see the various souvenirs created from the early days to present. Stacia, Paul and Rob all got to show their favorites too! From strange, to rare, to guidebooks, to tickets, and hats; we saw it all. History, marketing, and even "outsourcing in the 50's" were all part of the Disneyanna history.

Duffy the Bear Debuts in Epcot
