7 Things You Should ALWAYS Do at Your Disney World Hotel

Arriving in Disney World is the best feeling ever, isn’t it?

Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort

Once you see that welcome sign and then get to your Disney World hotel, your vacation has officially started. We get it — you’ll be very excited when you get to your Disney World hotel room, but there are some things you need to think about first (and some things you’ll need to remember when you leave).

So here’s a list of things you should ALWAYS remember to do in your Disney World hotel room.

Check for bed bugs

Bed bugs are VERY real, and yes, they can even happen at Disney World. The problem with bed bugs is that they like to travel in other folks’ luggage, meaning someone could inadvertently bring them into a hotel room without ever even knowing it. You should check for bed bugs right after you enter your hotel room.

Pull off those sheets and check the mattress

Here’s how to check:

  • Put your luggage on a rack or in the bathroom — do not open until you’ve done a full check for bed bugs.
  • Pull back the sheets and blankets from the bed and look at the bare mattress and box spring seams for bugs and dark rust-colored spots. If you can, lift the mattress and check underneath that, too.
  • If there is upholstered furniture in the room, do the same thing by pulling up cushions and anything not nailed down.
  • If you see anything you think might be a sign of bed bugs, grab your luggage, leave the room, and let a Cast Member know.

Wipe down all surfaces that get touched often

Disney’s Mousekeeping is good at what they do, but it doesn’t hurt to bring the Lysol wipes and use those on surfaces in a hotel room that get touched often. We’re talking about bathroom surfaces, door handles, light switches, any devices like the Amazon Alexa in the room, etc.

Wipe those sinks down

You may also want to clean glassware you may be using while you’re staying in the room. It doesn’t hurt being extra clean.

Flop down on the bed

Okay, everything is clean, so now you can just fall onto the bed, arms and legs splayed, and enjoy that Disney World vacation feeling. Just take in the moment and enjoy it.

Go ahead and flop down on the bed!

Believe us, we do this, too.

Check drawers

One thing you should do is check all the closets and drawers for anything that might have been left behind by previous guests. Mousekeeping will usually find things, but just in case they miss something, you can take those items to a Cast Member who can try to make sure those things get back to their original owners.

Don’t forget to check drawers

We’ve lost stuff in Disney World hotel rooms, so we know this is something that will be appreciated.

Make sure everyone can unlock the door

Before you leave the room for the first time, you’ll want to check and make sure that everyone’s cards, keys, and MagicBands work to unlock the room door. Sometimes they don’t.

Make sure everyone can unlock the door

If for some reason there is a problem, ask a Cast Member to help. Also, make sure everyone knows the room number and where it’s located in the hotel. You can generally check the room number in the My Disney Experience app. It’s so easy to forget it, though, especially after a long day in the parks.

Play with Hey, Disney!

Disney World hotel rooms now come equipped with their own personal assistants in the form of an Amazon Alexa device that has the “Hey, Disney!” service on it. If you want to use this service, figure out how it works and play with it so you understand how to use it.

Quincy with Hey, Disney!

If you don’t want to use Hey, Disney! during your trip, you can also choose to disable it for the length of your stay.

Clean up after yourself

Yes, Mousekeeping will clean your room, but you should do your best to keep it tidy to make their jobs a little easier. Don’t leave behind huge messes for Mousekeeping to clean up. Basically, just clean up after yourself while you’re staying in the room.

Also, keep your stuff organized and not scattered everywhere so that Mousekeeping doesn’t have to go through it all while they’re cleaning. It will also help you keep track of your items so you don’t lose or accidentally leave anything behind.

  1. One thing I always check when we stay in a villa with a washer/dryer. I always look behind the clothes dryer. One trip we were drying some clothes and started smelling something. We looked in the dryer, nothing. Being a firefighter, I checked behind the dryer. Someone threw a roll of paper towels behind the dryer. No actual flames, but you could smell it was getting close.

  2. I have been going to WDW more times than I can count and never have I had an issue or had to be this aggressive about cleaning. I guess if you are susceptible or concerned, but you are about to enter parks with thousands of people are you going to be constantly wiping down things and disinfecting your hands. Think of every bar and seat on a ride or stair rails, etc.
