Airline disruptions are, unfortunately, not uncommon.

Last holiday season we saw massive interruptions that canceled thousands of flights throughout the course of a week. We keep a close eye on any disruptions to give you a heads-up, and if you’re flying Spirit this week, you may want to prepare yourself.

According to Tampa Bay 10, Spirit Airlines canceled around 100 flights on Friday, October 20th after pulling some planes out of service for inspections.

Spirit also “did not describe the nature of the inspections and did not respond when asked for further information.” However, the Federal Aviation Administration stated it “involved the inspection of brackets on the planes’ airframes.” The inspections look for cracking around the brackets, and if they go undetected, could cause rapid decompression of an airplane, according to Tampa Bay 10.

The disruption is expected to last several days as these inspections take place, but these inspections are mandatory by the FAA and were updated in 2018. About half of the cancellations were located at Orlando Airport, where Spirit is the second-largest carrier.

On October 21st, flight tracking service FlightAware showed 33 additional flight cancelations at Orlando Airport.
