You’ll Never Look at Spaceship Earth the Same Way After Seeing This

We won’t deny it — the new Beacon of Magic look that EPCOT got during the 50th Anniversary, which has stuck around permanently, is absolutely gorgeous.

We’ve seen Spaceship Earth be illuminated in all kinds of cool ways thanks to the tons of lights installed on it, and in the past, we’ve even seen some hilarious projections on the park icon. But now, another sphere is giving Spaceship Earth some serious competition.

We’re talking about the MSG Sphere — that beautiful object you might have seen photos of in Las Vegas. The MSG sphere has been ALL over the news recently so you may have already heard of it but let’s go through what you need to know!

As USA Today reports, the sphere is an “eye-catching venue” in Las Vegas that’ll ultimately be home to live sporting, music, and movie events. It will be Earth’s largest sphere (aside from the planet itself!) and won’t debut for a few more months, but a special preview of it was shown off during a Fourth of July event.

It’s been compared to seeing a movie in IMAX and is set to make guests at the venue feel fully immersed in whatever they’ve come to experience.

But it’s about more than the visuals here. The audio is also taken very seriously as the sphere will have over 160,000 speakers throughout the bowl. There will even be some 4-D experiences available with seats that vibrate and have wind machines.

This spot really has it all. It’s 366 feet tall, 516 feet wide, and the bowl reportedly has the largest LED lights. The venue can seat almost 18,000 people.

The Sphere will officially open on September 29th. There will be 25 concerts featuring U2 that’ll run until mid-December. Ticket prices start at $140. In November, the property will also become home to the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix’s street circuit.

Oh yeah, and it can look like an eyeball. Not at all creepy.

Reportedly, this structure cost $2.3 BILLION to build. You know how you’ve got that seriously impressive cousin you just HATE to run into at family parties? The one who accomplished all those great things that your family loves to repeatedly bring up to you for some reason. Like, we get it, Martha is GREAT. Well, we have a feeling this is Spaceship Earth’s version of that relationship. 😂

So what do you think — do you wish Spaceship Earth could have effects like this? Or are you happy with the way Disney has it now?

I mean…if it did get upgraded effects, it could take that whole Mike Wazowski on Spaceship Earth thing to an ENTIRELY different level.
