Halifax is a beautiful city with gorgeous harbor views. We did two Port Adventures - Ahoy Mates (Tall Ship Silva Sailing) and Peggy's Cove & Titanic. If I had it to do over again, I only would have booked one Port Adventure - it would have been nice to have a little time to explore on our own. We were in port on a one-ship day, so none of the tours were extremely crowded and the city wasn't overrun with tourists which was wonderful.
Ahoy Mates wasn't exactly what we (my husband and I - in our 30's, no kids) expected. Based on the description, we were prepared to get in on the action, but the adventure was geared more towards kids. The kids (ages 5 - early teens) on the adventure seemed to have a blast. Much younger or older than that, though, and there wasn't a lot to do. We expected to go out in the ocean on this adventure, but the company that operates the tall ship apparently doesn't have a license to leave the harbor. The ship reminded me of a vessel that you would rent out for an event or party - wedding, rehearsal dinner, birthday, etc. (Rated individually, I'd give this Port Adventure a 5. It wasn't "bad," just not what I expected.)
We also did the Adults Only departure of Peggy's Cove & Titanic. Our tour guide, Ellen, and bus driver, Art, were fantastic. Ellen was very informative, thorough, and interesting! We learned a lot about Halifax. Peggy's Cove was beautiful (and chilly!) and the Titanic graveyard was more moving than I expected. I'd recommend this Port Adventure to anyone looking to get an overview of the city and learn about the place you're visiting.
