I took my husband to Steakhouse 55 for dinner for his birthday. The service was wonderful and the food was excellent. My husband had the crab cake with bearnaise sauce and the center cut filet mignon, I had the sauteed sea scallops and the Steak House Dry Rib Bone-In Ribeye. Both appetizers and meals meals were cooked to perfection. We added asparagus and scalloped potatoes as side dishes. They were delicious as well. They brought my husband a chocolate mousse Mickey Mouse cake for dessert for his birthday. I wanted to try the warm peach butter cake for dessert but I was too full. We had a sidecar and a martini with sky vodka & peach schnapps for our cocktails. The room was a throw back to classic Hollywood...loved the decor. I would definitely eat here again. We decided on a 5:30pm reservation, which was surprisingly busy. There were several groups dining that evening. We were seated after about a 20 minute wait. We received water and bread service almost immediately, which was appropriate. However, we then waited at least 15 minutes before our server showed up. She was so flustered and apologized that she had a big table and was busy. She continued to give us poor uneven service the rest of the evening. She never pulled her composure together. That is unacceptable at this level of dining. The amuse buche was set down and she barely gave a description to us while talking to the table next to us about something else. I had to eat it to figure out what it was. The food was delicious, and she did get the orders right. French onion soup and lobster bisque were enjoyable. Steaks were cooked properly and nicely seasoned. We selected the creamed spinach and potato gratin sides which were both good. By the time dessert menus finally arrived we just wanted to leave though. I just can't recommend this restaurant. It's unfortunate since the food was enjoyable. The service was that bad.

Pros:

Enjoyable Food

Cons:

Very Poor Service

My party of two had reservations here on 5/22/14 at 5:30pm. We checked in almost exactly on time and were seated about 10 minutes later, under a portrait of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez.

To start, we ordered the Seared Scallops and the Steakhouse Salad. The bread service was very good, even though the loaf was a bit burned on the bottom. The scallops were delivered but they tried to give me the Wedge Salad before quickly bringing me the correct salad. I'm told the scallops were very good, and my salad was perfect.

For our entrees I chose the Prime Rib and my friend ordered the Pistachio crusted rack of lamb. My Prime Rib was excellent and every last bit of the lamb was devoured. We also shared a side of the garlic mashed potatoes, which were outstanding.

Dessert consisted of the Vanilla Bean Cheesecake and the "Root Beer Baked Alaska". The cheesecake was delicious. The baked alaska was not quite what I was expecting. It was a small scoop of root beer ice cream which had been lightly burned on the top, a root beer float shooter, and two tiny triangles of pound cake.

The meal was very leisurely which was perfect; we were there for about 90 minutes. Service was very good from Gloria. We highly recommend this restaurant and would definitely return in the future.

My wife and I had dinner and the food and service was excellent. The mood and decor is more "Adult" driven than families that being said the place is expensive but worth it. We will return in a heartbeat.

SH55 suffers from elevated expectations; unfortunately, the food (at least the steaks) are just "good", not "great". The salads and sides are probably better than the main course, but overall it's not worth the price.

Pros:

atmosphere, service

Cons:

price
