This is the second time we have dined at Wine Country Tratoria. We were here last 7 years ago and the service was poor and the food was mediocre. This time the service was still poor but the quality of the food improved markedly. Make your reservations for 15 minutes before the Pixar Parade starts and ask for a table outside against the wall. You won't be served quickly, but you won't regret your front row, unobstructed view of the parade.

My husband, daughter and I arrived at the restaurant at 7:00PM without a reservation. We were able to get a table right away. A pleasant surprise seeing that they were hosting the World of Color dinners at that time. We're off to a great start! We were then taken to a lovely table outside on the terrace with heat lamps..It really is a beautiful setting.
Drinks:
I order the Premium Wine Tasting flight - all of the wines very good.
My husband ordered a Rum Runner - he said it was good.
Appetizer:
We order the Frito Misto for an appetizer. I'm not fan of fried foods but we all love seafood and the dish had a little something for everyone at the table. It had calamari and mussels (both cooked perfectly and not chewy at all) it also had green beans & artichoke hearts. It was served with a side of Pepperoncini Aioli. It was clearly NOT an aioli but ranch dressing...no pepperoncini flavor at all. That was a big disappointment for this pepperhead.
Dinner:
My daughter ordered the fish of the day. It was presented nicely however the fish was clearly raw on the bottom half so we sent it back to the kitchen. My husband and I were both done with our dinners by the time her fish arrived. When it finally did arrive it was over cooked and tough.
I ordered the Quattro Pomodoro - It was recommended by my waiter. He described it as a blend of four different tomatoes with garlic and basil. Your can't go wrong with those ingredients, right? Wrong! The four tomatoes were canned diced, sundried, raw pear tomatoes thrown in at the end of the cooking process and I'm guessing the last "tomato" was tomato paste. The was no garlic or basil at all in my dish...none, zero, zilch. They also didn't cook the sauce long enough after adding some wine so it had that off putting palate pleaser going on. I would have sent my dish back but the waiter never came back to check on us until he had my daughters fish. I ended up just pushing the nasty tomato chunks aside and added some olive oil and balsamic vinegar from the table. I made it taste more like a pasta salad.
My husband ordered the Lasagna Rustica, he said he could taste that it had been previously frozen and then reheated.
I had high hopes for the food but when the kitchen staff doesn't care about the quality of the food it shows.

With reservations, we were seated immediately. Asked whether we preferred outdoor or "indoor", we asked for indoor since it was pretty hot outside. I wouldn't call our seating indoor as it was just inside the partition wall but was still outside. Had I seen this coming we would have just stayed outside where we would have had some fresh air and a view. The seating aside, the service was very good. We eat lots of bread before, during and after our meals and the waiter brought us more whenever we were out. I had the Pasta Your Way so was able to select my favorite pasta and sauce...flat noodles and Pomodoro sauce. While I know my pasta and sauces, the servers will help explain when needed. BRO had the lasagna. We both found the entrees excellent and a sufficient protion. We are big eaters. We were apprehensive about getting the wine flights as I read in the Menu section of All Ears that they featured 1 oz pours for $18-20. Not true. They were the regular 2+ oz pours normally found with wine flights. A wine flight should be a bit more than 1 full glass. We selected California flights naturally, being in DCA. Oddly, the entrees were fairly inexpensive, around $15, so we ended up spending more on our wine. But it is Wine Country afterall.

WCT has a new menu and it rocks! If you have not been to WCT in a while don't expect to see the same things on the menu.In fact the items are better this time around! Every meal I have had has just been so good and I love this place I always go back and I recommend it!
