Service lacking

The location is fine. The beds are comfortable. The service is unacceptable. We checked in to the tune of $100 we hadn't planned on spending because the website didn't take the balance from the credit card we used. The gentleman helping us acted as if we weren't his problem, merely an annoyance. The trip up to our floor required much wasted time waiting for an elevator (two, servicing seven floors). Once arriving in our room, we had to traipse back down to the parking lot to move our car into the "self-service lot" and decided instead to simply go to Downtown Disney. When we arrived back at the hotel, there were NO parking spots in the "self-serve" parking lot. Parking, by the way, is $8 just for a self-serve spot. We parked again in the 30 minute spots and went into the hotel only to be told to park in the "Valet Only" lot. We did so after numerous card failures in the machine while the same gentleman who checked us in had issues reprogramming it to accept our cards. Half an hour later, we discovered that there were no alcoholic offerings in the store (rum, vodka, whiskey, etc.) but there were some unknown brands of wine. In the morning, the maid woke us up (ignoring the DO NOT DISTURB on the door) and walked into our room at 9 am. We were unable to go back to sleep and ventured downstairs for our free continental breakfast, only to discover that we were limited to cereal and old pastries and hard bagels. We left shortly thereafter to go find a better meal in Downtown Disney.

This was our second time staying at the Doubletree. The last visit was about 2 yrs ago and since then the hotel lobby has been updated. This is the best place to stay at WDW. Huge rooms for a great price. With the deal we got, which includes free continental breakfast, the price was incredible. The staff was friendly and the suites allow you to put the kids to bed and the adults can stay up and watch TV and visit. With the microwave oven and refrigerator, you are able to save some money on meals. Very nice pool area.
Yes, this is not a Disney hotel, so you miss out on extra magic hours. We don't usually go that early or stay that late anyway. The themeing you would find in a Disney hotel is missing, but for me, it's okay. I would rather pay slightly more than the Disney value resort rate and have a suite.
On our last visit we had some bus issues for my dad who is in a wheelchair. Not so this time. In all, what a great experience! Oh, yes, they also have those wonderful chocolate chip cookies upon check-in!

We stayed at Doubletree for the first time August 21-23. Having always stayed on many of the Disney properties, I was nervous, However I was pleasantly surprised on all counts. On check in we were given a room and it was 7:00 AM! The suite was much nicer than ASM suites and with All Ears discount it was less than half of what the ASM is. Also had a much cleaner and updated look to it. Within walking distance of Downtown Disney and since I am a Floridian, I did not use the buses, I used my car. We also have passes so we do not pay to park at the parks so overall this was better than Disney property since the difference is parking and Extra magic hours which are not convenient for small children anyway. The staff here was the best I have encountered. Also with the All Ears special, you get free internet but there is also free computers with printers just off the lobby for all to use in case you did not bring a computer. You cannot beat this deal I wish I had used this hotel instead of Disney property at Easter when their prices are highest. Plan to go back in October and would highly recommend to everyone else.

We stayed at the Doubletree Suites using the Mousesaver plan June 6 - 15. There were 4 of us - myself, my teen-aged son, my sister & teen-aged niece. Most of our stay was extremely pleasant. I would have rated it a "10" but for 2 problems described below.
Check-in was very quick - maybe 10 minutes - though I'm a Hilton HHonors member so this sometimes speeds things up.
We had a second floor suite, a short walk from the elevator. The suites are very spacious & surprisingly cozy - especially the bedroom - and very clean. The living room area included a sofa, a large plush chair, 2 end tables with lamps, and a cabinet/chest of drawers with a flat screen TV. There was a large window which unfortunately overlooked the roof. There is plenty of space in the corners to stow your gear. The sofa was very comfortable as a sofa, but unendurable when opened as a bed. (No one could sleep on this thing - you could feel every piece of metal in the frame. I ended up having to share a bed with my teenaged son, though the beds were so comfortable & we were so tired from the parks, that luckily we slept quite soundly.) The kitchen area has a table with 4 chairs, plus kitchenette including small sink, small fridge (with freezer that worked well to freeze bottles of water for the parks), microwave, coffee maker (with excellent Wolfgang Puck coffee!) and plenty of counter space. The bedroom included 2 extremely comfy beds with plenty of pillows, a nightstand with double lamp & large numbered digital alarm clock, a tall chest of drawers with another flat screen TV, and another large window overlooking the roof. The bedroom is divided from the living room by french doors - handy when the 2 sleepy moms wanted to go to bed & the 2 teens wanted to stay up to watch TV or read. There is a dressing area outside the bath, off of the bedroom, which was very useful - the large mirror over a vanity/counter was especially appreciated by 3 females trying to get ready in the morning. Note though, that there is no seating at this vanity. The hair dryer was a powerful one that actually dried my hair. There is an outlet next to the vanity, plus several extras in the living/kitchen area good for recharging phones, batteries etc. There is also a full size closet with mirrored closet doors. The bath is off of the dressing area offering more privacy - it is also very spacious. They provide nuetrogena bath products. The bath/closet configuration helps to make the bedroom very quiet. The living room area however is not quiet! They play EXTREMELY loud music in the lobby - even very late at night. I actually called the front desk our first night thinking someone was having a loud party (this was also the night my son was trying to sleep on the horrible sofabed), when it turned out that the hotel was blaring the music - this was at 3:30 A.M. Luckily we couldn't hear it in the bedroom.
Another very pleasant surprise was the hotel's restaurant, the Evergreen Cafe. I highly recommend it to anyone staying in the hotel. It's a beautiful space & the food was incredible. Their rotisserie chicken was some the best I've ever had. The portions were HUGE! Plus the Mousesavers plan includes 20% off. We also had the free continental breakfast every day with the Mousesavers plan - it included fresh fruit, yogurt, muffins, danishes, croissants, and various pastries, juices, and coffee - to name the things we ate, there may have been more items included. We aren't big breakfast eaters so this was more than sufficient for our needs. The hotel also offers Pizza Hut products & we took advantage of this 2 nights when we were extremely tired from the parks & just wanted a little something. You can actually order it from your cell phone on the way back from the parks & they'll have it ready for you to pick up when you arrive back at the hotel - very convenient!
There is a lovely tropical landscaped swimming pool with a pool bar, a small gameroom, a small Disney store off the lobby, and a convenience store with good selection but typical high hotel prices. We also took advantage of the 7th floor laundry room which had 4 washers & 4 or 6 dryers (I forget).
The buses were as expected, they pick up every half hour starting at 8:00 A.M. & ending 1 1/2 hours after park closing. We frequently stood. But I've experienced worse onsite. Though they're not quite as convenient as Disney's buses. The hotel is within walking distance to Downtown Disney, though we chose not to walk since the temp was in the upper 90's with the heat index over 100 when we visited. The hotel is conveniently located off I4 & close to many area restaurants like Macaroni Grill & CiCi's, plus the Crossroads shopping center.
We would definitely stay here again & would certainly recommend it, though I would advise anyone not to plan to sleep on the sofabed!

Great for the price. Lots of space. Close to downtown Disney.
We only stayed one night before moving to our Disney resort. Our special included a cold buffet breakfast, that was great for free but I wouldn't have paid for.
The only real negative was the squeaky sofa bed. My son didn't want to sleep on it, so we ended up just putting the mattress on the floor.

Escorted my adult sister and 8yo niece on their first visit to WDW during the week of Halloween (Oct 2008).
Booked the 2-bedroom suite (king & double/double - plus 2 bathrooms). Over the months as the on-line AAA rate dropped; Hilton/Doubletree honored and adjusted my reservation. Sherry (Rm Reservations at the property) is friendly & fantastic. Wonderful front desk and bell/door staff. Was fun to see the hotel depts contest for pumpkin carving/decoration.
The suite (#502)exceeded my expectations: clean, comfortable, quiet and soft pillows. Great to have the mini kitchen/living room area for morning breakfast and afternoon snacks. Tasty breakfast buffet, one morning, when we were in the mood for eggs & bacon.
Housekeeping was prompt with friendly HELLOS in the hallway. Engineering made a visit to adjust a slow draining bathtub. Good closet & drawer space. Plenty of plugs for phone, camera and portable dvd players. Hair dryer, iron & safe was provided. Three television sets!
Pool area was fun and was a way for an 8yo to burn off some extra energy. New equipment in the gym. Bartender from the lobby bar walked the pool area every 20 minutes.
Adults could easily make the walk to Downtown Disney. The under 10 set might give you the "are we there yet" whine. Scored a nice take out meal from Wolfgang Puck Express to enjoy in the room.
There was one voice mail message left which appeared to be a time share appeal; but not harassed by salespeople in the lobby. Their food pantry store was well stocked, but seemed a bit pricey. The Winn-Dixie is five minutes away.
Did not use the hotel bus transportation to the theme parks. Felt safe & secure in the parking lot. The hotel staff tends the garbage cans, which I filled up with empty water bottles and extra shopping bags. Our short car drives were filled with excited conversation about "what we'd do next" and "what we just did."
Yes, you lose the Mouse Magic when you stay outside the World; but it is also nice to step away from it for a moment. The Doubletree Suites is small & compact; so you don't have the crowds, lines and noise.
Major pro: the friendly Doubletree staff and the location. I will return to this property. The two-bedroom suites are rare; but so worth it for a family!
My only con ... and it is very minor one ... is concerning the in-room, nightstand alarm clock. Easy to adjust for wake up times; but impossible to adjust for the (fall-back) time change.
Thank you Doubletree Suites for helping me keep my title as World's Best Uncle.

Couch and Chair Needed Replacing

We stayed 5 nights from 9/15 to 9/20. Overall we were very impressed with the hotel. Due to the time of the year, the hotel was only moderately busy and we had the pool almost to ourselves nearly every night.
The beds were very comfortable and the room size, with the table and chairs allowed us to spread out all of our gear and still have plenty of space available. The only negative about the room was that the couch and chair definitely need to be replaced. The cushions has lost all of the "cushion" and were not very comfortable.
We did a split stay at the Polynesian for the first four nights and then the Doubletree for the remaining five nights. The Doubletree obviously does not have the theming or the "magic" of a deluxe Disney resort, but it also cost us one fourth of the price and we still loved it. We would definitely stay there again for a portion of our next Disney vacation.

Okay, if you just want a place to sleep that is cheap and spacious and not too far away, this may be the choice for you. However, we just stayed there 2 weekends ago and I don't think I would go back or recommend to go back. It is "just a hotel" in Orlando and doesn't have the same magic as staying even in a value resort on property. We got a rate of $89/night, which for a suite was good, but there was absolutely no theming or special umph - consequently we would not stay here again. If the theming doesn't matter to you, then you may like it... but we won't be back.

We (myself, wife and three year old son) just returned from our 6 day/5 night stay at the DoubleTree Suites. Keep in mind that the crowds are significantly less to practically nothing during the first week of September. Also keep in mind that it is still summer in Orlando which means HOT, HOT, HOT. I must admit that, after staying at Disney hotels (as well as others in the world) I could not help but to compare them to the DoubleTree.
First, since you do not get the complimentary Magical Express, we took a Mears van and prepaid for the round trip to and from MCO up front. Only $64 (for two adults) compared to taking cabs each way. Upon arriving at the DoubleTree, we were surprised by NO staff/bellman to greet us; open the door, help us with the luggage (as they do at Disney). Our room was not ready but we checked in, being told that our luggage would go up to the room when we returned. The clerk even asked for my cell number to call us when the room was ready.
After returning from EPCOT (cause one you arrive you want to hit the parks running) after 4:00PM ( the official check in time, the desk staff had changed shifts and the new batch had no record of my credit card being taken but still had our room number. And we had ask for our bags since they never delivered them to the room.
The room itself was wonderful; more than roomy for two adults and a preschooler. The fold out sofa/bed for him was very comfy (so that even an adult could sleep on it). And the cleanliness was exceptional; the housekeeping staff are to be commended.
We wish the sane care could be applied to the pools and playground area. Again, unfair to compare but Disney hotels pools are immaculate in terms of no dead leaves or bugs floating in it. And Disney hotels don't have ants crawling through their pool area or setting up colonies in the sand of their playground area.
And finally, the transportation to and from the parks. Yes, because you are on actual Disney property you do get free transportation. BUT it is NOT DISNEY transportation. It is an outside company with the most unreliable and erratic schedule ever. You can get to the parks but, dear Lord, allow yourself at least AN HOUR to get back. The stops are the furthest from the park entrances and unlike Disney bus stops, these have NO SHELTERS from the hot sun (or pouring rain). And they will pick up folks at TWO PARKS not just the one you're at. So if you want to get back in less time it took you to fly to Orlando International, do as we had to do and take a cab (from the cab stops or one of the Disney Hotels).
For the deal we go in terms of accommodation and airfare, it was fine. But in the future, we will save and then spend that extra bit of cash on a Disney hotel room.

Just returned from a September trip to WDW. The party included myself, my wife, 3 year old daughter, and 1 year old daughter. My wife and I haven't been to WDW since we were kids, and we didn't stay on property then, so I can't compare these facilities with any others in the area.
My first goal was to find a place we could stay that would allow us to put the kids to bed and isolate them from us in case we wanted to stay up later. I also wanted to be close to the parks as I intended to drive from the hotel to the park so I wouldn't have to wait on public transportation with tired children. Lastly, it had to be within our budget. The Doubletree fit our needs perfectly.
Our check-in wasn't until a Saturday afternoon, but the wife and I decided to drive through the night to get to WDW that Saturday morning so the kids would sleep most of the time. We arrived in Orlando at 7:30AM and decided to go to the Doubletree first thing and freshen up and get something to eat. Disney magic started immediately for us as they had a room already available for us. We were able to check-in at 8:00AM instead of 4:00PM for no extra cost. This was huge for us as we came back from MK after lunch to take a nap. Before we even went up to the room, they were catering to the kids by handing out Disney stickers and the children's gift bags. They even satisfied my need for sugar by giving me a box of eight warm cookies. After getting our things in the room, we ate a hot breakfast in the Doubletree restaurant. Everything was very tasty. My three year old loved how the waffles were shaped like Mickey's head.
We were there a week and were never left wanting. We came back from the parks every day around 2:00 for naps, and the room was always cleaned and restocked. We kept the fridge stocked with drinks and snacks to take to the parks each day, and the sink was used to wash the kids cups each night. The first night we were there, we went to a store and bought some milk and cereal so we could eat breakfast in the room each morning. There was plenty of room in the fridge for all our needs. We even used the microwave to heat up leftover cookies each night after the kids went to bed.
The hotel was right down the road from Downtown Disney and just minutes from MK and Epcot. We never did it because the parking was so nice, but the walk to Downtown Disney is probably only 10 minutes.
The only downside I found with the room was the folding doors that separated the living area from the bedroom. They didn't shut together correctly and were far from sound and light proof. Having said that, it didn't cause problems for the kids as they fell right to sleep every afternoon and night while the wife and I stayed up in the living area.
We had such a great time at WDW that we are already planning another trip in the next year or two. One question has already been answered though. We will definately stay at the Doubletree again.

Bus Service for wheelchairs, not a Disney resort

My family of 5 and my parents stayed in 2 connecting suites in mid-February 2007. The rooms are immaculate and huge. They are a great value for the space.
I would have given this resort a 10, except we had a very big problem with the bus service. My dad uses a scooter (ECV). My mom was told on 3 separate phone calls prior to our arrival that they would have no problems with the buses and his scooter. WRONG! The buses to the Lake Buena Vista resorts only take regular wheelchairs according to the bus drivers. We later found that some drivers would take my dad in his scooter, but they were not supposed to do it. Most drivers did not even know how to operate the handicap lift in the back of the bus.
To the Doubletree's credit, they called a cab for my dad the first day to get him to the park. The driver told him where to wait and who to call when he was ready to go. He ended up waiting 4 hours for a driver to pick him up...in the cold. The hotel was very apologetic, but it certainly put a damper on the trip.

Our family consisting of myself,my husband, 2 yo daughter and 3 wk old son just returned from a quick trip to Orlando. We chose to stay here for the economical value and space. We visited Sea World and Downtown Disney. We were quite pleased with the hotel. The check in was very quick (we used the All Ears promotion) with no problems. When we checked in they didn't have any cookies ready but gave us a voucher to come back later when they were done baking. No problems there!
Anyway our room was very large and the beds are to die for. I think whenever I travel anywhere I am looking for a Doubletree just for their beds. They are so comfy and they actually give you pillows. The pull out sofa is another story, but who has actually stayed on a comfy pull out. The kitchen area is a nice plus, it had a microwave, sink, and mini-fridge.
With our reservation we were given free breakfast vouchers. The free breakfast is continental and you can upgrade to warm foods (eggs, bacon, etc.) for another $7.00. A bit high for an upgrade. I personally didn't eat my share since I am trying to diet but hubby and daughters food were just fine for free. I believe kids can get warm food free too but I am not sure. I just know my daughters portion was not charged.
I also want to add that this hotel is advertised as a Downtown Disney hotel but it is the furthest away from DD. So I would not plan on staying here and walking anywhere. The closest hotel is the Hilton but even then still isn't that close and you have to cross a wide, Disney busy street. And the closest part of all is the shops at DD not the Pleasure Island part. With that said, we did not use the hotel transportation so we can not comment on that.
As far as comparing this to Disney hotels, this is a far better value with much more comfortable beds even for the deluxe hotels. Trust us we go all the time and we have stayed at almost all the hotels.

September, 2006 / 6 Nights
Calling all Parents of young children…Hear this!!
Suites! Enormous, reasonably priced suites at that! As the parents of 5 year-old twins, and a 2 year-old this hotel SAVED our vacation! Imagine, being able to put your children to bed after a long day at the parks and having them actually go to sleep! Meanwhile, the grown ups can stay up, have a glass of wine, watch a movie and rub lotion into their blistered feet!! In any other hotel, one of two things happen; either the kids stay awake jumping on the bed because the tv is on, or DH and I are in bed, lights out, staring at the ceiling at 7pm! Yea! For Doubletree Suites!
Don’t even get me started on the kitchen facilities… Every morning we’d sit the kids down at the kitchen table for a hearty breakfast that we would make in-room. All for the price of a trip to the grocery store (conveniently located across the street!) Then we would make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to haul off to the park… We saved a fortune!
Housekeeping was terrific… Rooms were cleaned and tidied EVERY morning… Not a crumb… and mind you, there were a LOT of crumbs! She even picked up my little monsters toys and made the crib!
The hotel is in the super-convenient location of Downtown Disney and does offer shuttle service. We opted to rent a car only because of the age of our children and the amount of schlepping involved. We saw no drawbacks to having a car; we got around easily and did it on our own time schedule.
The only reason this hotel didn’t rate a “10” in my book is because the paint and wallpaper could be freshened. We stayed in room 220 and the bathroom wallpaper was pretty shabby, also there was a poorly repaired hole in one wall (I’ve spent a fortune staying at “Boardwalk” and found their rooms to be tired and used looking too!) When you compare that to the convenience, service, and price… The old girl is a solid “9”… with or without the lipstick!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in Sept. 2005. We loved it. It's perfect. This will be the hotel for all future visits. You get a nice big room with a big table w/4 chairs, microwave, mini-fridge, coffee maker, couch, nice chair, coffe table, end table, 3 tv's, 2 phones, nice size closet, plenty of drawer space, hair dryer, and the most comfortable beds I ever slept in my life for a very low price. It also has a Budget rent-a-car as an extra bonus. Not far from this hotel is a Shoney's with an excellent breafast bar, and a Walgreen's drug store where you can get excellent deals on getting your pictures developed. The staff is freindly and helpful. You definitely get a big bang for your buck with this place.

We stayed at the DoubleTree Suites in February, 2006. We stayed for six nights in a suite with 2 double beds. It was just myself, DH and DD(7). The suite was spacious and it was really nice to have the refrigerator, microwave and sink. Outside the bathroom was a nice ledge that we could store our toiletries on. This was great for getting ready in the mornings. The beds were very comfortable. Our room was on the 7th floor with a view of Illuminations (limited). Unfortunately, we were right above the bus stop for the hotel and next to the laudry room. Next time, I would not want that same location. You can hear the noise from the washers/dryers and the buses. We ate breakfast each morning at Streamers. The hot buffet was very nice and had waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage, omeletes, biscuits, etc. The staff was always very friendly and helpful. There is a Disney Store in the lobby. The pool was nice - there is no slide.
We were able to walk to DTD - this is the furthest of the non-Disney hotels, but it only took about 5 minutes to get there. Although the hotel is on Disney property, it just isn't the same. I really enjoy staying in the Disney themed hotels. It really does add to the magic. But, I would stay here again - especially for the space and the price.
