If you eat on your on schedule...

If you can make sure you'er at a certain place at a certain time, it's a good thing. My wife and kids love it..I hate it. I'm just talking about sit down meals on my part. I hate it because the Disney ressie system lets someone make a ressie at 8 different restaurants for the SAME time on any given night..Then they can "pick" depending on where they are at that time..Time for "pin" numbers..Hard ressie's..My rate would be 1..

I just used the new basic dining plan that started on Jan. 1 while I was at Disney for New Year's. Instead of getting two beverages for your breakfast quick service meal(if you choose breakfast), you now get one beverage and a fruit cup with your entree. Although I miss the second drink, I much prefer being able to eat fruit with my breakfast without having to use an extra snack credit. For dinner I ate at Teppan Edo(Candelight Dinner Pkg), Olivia's Cafe and Tony's Town Square. Each of my table service meals easily came to over $40 each night. Add to that the roughly $13 for breakfast and $4 for snack each day and the plan is soooo worth it.

We like the dining plan.

Cons:

Unable to select an appetizer.

We like the dining plan, especially when it is free. There are two things WDW needs to change. Guests should be given the option of an appetizer OR a dessert. We would much prefer, in most cases, to eat a salad rather than a dessert.
Next, we do not like have the amount of the tip on our bill. We will no longer leave the amount listed UNLESS the service calls for it. A buffet does NOT call for the tips listed...after all, we wait on ourselves. Then there are the times when you have that unfriendly and missing waiter/waitress. Why should they receive a tip or a large tip. I say if the service calls for $1 then pay $1 and if it calls for 18% then pay 18%.

It was free!

too much food if you actually get all you are entitled to!

We stayed 12/16-12/26, on the free dining plan. No complaints, as it was free after all, but if there is a complaint it's that other people do not educate themselves on the dining plan and what they are entitled to. There is plenty of information out there and people should be knowledgeable before they get in line and hold everyone up, which I saw happen numerous times. The plan itself gives you so much food, we often didn't ask for the dessert, it's just not necessary to eat that much, even if you are on vacation!
