When we arrived at the beautiful Grand Floridian we found out we were selected as the “family of the day”. We got our picture taken with Richard who is a wonderful man and greeter. The picture was delivered to our room as a keepsake, how cool.
Speaking of our room, we were upgraded from the Sugar Loaf Building to the main building. We had the most immaculate room I have ever stayed in. We were on the 4th floor and had Samong as our housekeeper. I can not say enough about this wonderful employee. She is kind, friendly, very attentive and a joy to know. I can really say I will miss her!! She even left us a rose in a cup in the bathroom one day. She went over and above, the towel animals, remarkable.
The concierge level offerings were great, there was a good continental breakfast along with ham and turkey slices and cheese. Fresh fruit every day, a different muffin, breads, cream cheese etc. There was food all day long, wonderful appetizers in the evening - no need for the meal plan on the concierge level. I gained two pounds :-( but I couldn't help myself with all of the food.
On my mother’s birthday, May 17th, Glen the piano player in the main lobby allowed mom to play the grand piano. She turned 91 and it was so fun to watch her play. She played about 3 songs. People were gathering at the railings to hear her play, visitors were taking pictures, video of her session. We were told by employees that she was as good “or better” (lol) as the professionals you have at the Grand Floridian. On her birthday, Jacinth, who was working in the concierge food area, sang her happy birthday and brought her out a wonderful cup cake.
My brother and his wife flew in and enjoyed her birthday with us. They ALSO were upgraded to the main building. Brent, who brought up our luggage, is another example of a superb employee. When we checked in, he spent a long time with us helping us “learn the ropes” at the Grand Floridian. He was very patient and understanding with Mom. We saw him every day and he helped us with something we needed or couldn’t find every day. He went out of his way to help us get the electric scooter. Brent is an awesome employee…
Transportation - the monorail is so great. They come often and are quick. The buses on the other hand, not the greatest but that is not just the Grand Floridian, that is everywhere. I wish they had monorails to get everywhere, it would be so much better for those of us who have lots to do and see and waiting an hour to get to a destination is a long time. To me, it is wisest to get a monorail resort as the time saving is enormous.
All in all, this was the best stay I have ever had at Disney. I can't say enough for the Grand Floridian. My kids are grown so that could impact my reasoning but there were a lot of kids there and they seemed to be having a lot of fun also. The service here was amazing and I could not find dirt anywhere, the painting is clean and fresh, they were always cleaning. Our room smelled really good too. I highly recommend the Grand Floridian. Next time I want to stay in the Sugar Loaf Building to see what that is like as I could never afford the main building but I sure enjoyed the Grand Floridian and it is my new favorite resort!

I was upgraded to SugarLoaf Building on my recent trip. It was such a suprise. I have stayed in SugarLoaf on 2 previous trips. This stay was nearly perfect. The CMs in Sugarloaf were very helpful as usual. Robert was great. The room was ready on check-in. Some days mouskeeping was a little slow to get the room cleaned. Some days it was after 3p.m. The selection of food in the lounge was fairly typical, no suprises. But that being said, it was always fresh and re-supplied when empty. They have added tables and chairs since my last visit and that made breakfasts a little more civilized. All in all a great place to spend the week.

We stayed at the Sugar Loaf building for three nights. The first and biggest issue we had was check in confusion. I was bringing my two cousins from Germany along with my two kids, a total of five. I had booked and paid for the initial night. When we drove up to the guard gate and I announced our name, they had no record of my reservation. Panic set in, of course, because it was the parks busiest time of year and I had visions of having no place to stay. We pulled up and got no special concierge greeting because we did not EXIST in their minds. I was made to wait a long time in the general check in line. After about one hour of confusion it was determined that somehow my name was lost and the reservation was in my German cousins name. They promised to have that cleared up immediately and after about one hour they walked us to the Sugar Loaf building.
Problem #2: Each time we presented ourselves for my very carefully planned dining reservations, we were told that no reservation existed. IN MY NAME. Then they would look and it was under my cousin's name. Not a big problem but still, it was confusing and I was the one paying. Every time the we called the desk, they addressed us in my cousins name (who spoke no English) and the confusion was never fixed during our entire stay.
Problem #3: We were put into a room directly next to the elevator shaft. It was noisy 24/7. The door stuck and you had to literally lean into it to get it to open. They promised a quick fix...it was never fixed. The resort was sold out so no room change either.
Problem #4: When I checked in, I gave them my American Express card for payment. I had charged the initial one night on my debit card months ago. On the last night at 2 a.m. I noticed our phone blinking with a message. I checked it and they said that my payment was declined and that I needed to make alternative payment immediately. I was confused and called American Express and they said they had not declined anything. I called the front desk and they demanded to talk to my German cousin because the reservation was still in HER name. I explained for the 100th time that I was the reservation holder and payer for the room. After literally one hour on the phone with a cast member who was treating me like I was a con artist..they discovered that my American Express card was never put on the reservation because the name was never changed like they promised. My debit card THANKFULLY declined the over $2,000 charge. If it had gone through, my banking would have been a big mess. I gave them my AmEx number again and they ran the charge at 3 a.m. and the cast member acted surprised when it went through. Obviously, I had a hard time sleeping.
The food and drinks, housekeeping, etc was fine at Sugar Loaf but the entire stay was a big huge mess...not of my own making! Very disappointing.

We stayed in the Sugarloaf concierge building from Jan 23-26 before our cruise on the Dream. We ended up in the exact room we had last June--6125. Loved the first floor location--close to concierge lounge, but far enough away that we weren't bothered by noise or other activities in the atrium. The cast at the GF has always been great, but Robert went above and beyond to help me with a few questions/issues. I know many feel this hotel isn't as themed as others or that it isn't kid-friendly, but we love it here. While we've tried other deluxe hotels, the Grand always feels like home. If I had my choice, I would vote for a main building room (for proximity and atmosphere), but Sugarloaf offers the same club level experience at a much lower price. We have never been disappointed!
