Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing

We had an absolute blast on the fishing excursion. Our trip was on 10/9/2009 at 7 a.m. We fished in Bay Lake and left our of the Contemporary. We met our guide JR who was awesome with the kids. He showed them how to lip a Bass. When they were a bit afraid he reached into his tackle box and pulled out a special glove for each. He also let them net some fish and drop the anchor. They had no issues with holding a fish the rest of the time.

We caught over 30 Bass at an average of 2.5 lbs. At one point our son was tired and ready to head back because of all the fish we were catching. My wife, mother, daughter and son had a blast and asked if we could do it again. I would highly recommend this excursion.

It is pricey and there is no guarantee of catching fish, but as JR said, "If you come to Florida and can't catch a fish, well, you might as well stop fishing."

Pros: Fun and something different
Cons: Tour guide was not very chatty

My family and I did the excursion on 10.3.09. This was our 3rd time (the others being in 2009 and 2000). Our guide was okay. He was not very talkative and didn't seem that involved in making our time memorable. He parked our boat next to the dock at the Wilderness Lodge where it was hard to cast without hitting the dock or a person on the dock! All 5 of us caught a few fish so it was fun but at over $250, it could have been better. If you go, request Roger, he is the best.

Pros: Lots of fish
Cons: none

Stayed at Polynesian 9/27-10/4. I took the fishing trip with our son and 4 year old grandson.
What could be better than spending the morning catching fish on your grandson's first fishing trip? He caught 8 of the 30 or so bass that we boated. It was funny he was even dogging our guide Robert saying " I'm sorry Mr Robert but everyone can't catch fish like me."
Only one bad thing now, our son will have a problem everytime he takes him fishing and he does not catch 8 more :o)

Pros: Watching Your Kids Reel In Bass After Bass!
Cons: Can't Keep The Fish : (

This is our 2nd year in a row taking a BASS fishing excursion and it's by far the SINGLE BEST EXPERIENCE of our week-long Disney World trip...And with 4 theme parks, that's saying a lot! It's not "cheap", but when your kids start landing bass after bass and wanting to hold them for seemingly endless photo ops, it really is priceless.

Last year we took the 2-hr trip and it seemed to end right in the middle of the fun. So we went on the 4-hr trip this year and it was just about right for our twin 7-yr old boys and their 5-yr old brother. I'm not exaggerating when I say that between the 5 of us we boated at least 60 bass in that period. Sometimes 2 or 3 of us would be reeling in our catches at the same time and this generates more excitement than anything else in any of the theme parks!

Our guide again this year was CARRIE. Thumbs Up! ASK FOR HER! She knows where the fish are and she frequently fishes in tournaments, so she knows what she's doing. She baits the hooks, nets the big ones, casts for the kids and takes them off the hook...Basically everything you'd normally have to do except on this trip YOU GET TO FISH TOO!! How great is that?!?!

BASS Members get a 10% discount when booking one of the fishing excursions. If you aren't a member, you'll be one because you'll receive a FREE BASS Membership with your fishing trip. There's a limit of 5 to a boat...However, my dad fished with us from 7-9(am) and we returned to the dock and he switched out with my wife for the 9-11 period. It worked out quite well...

The impact on our boys? When we were leaving Disney World this year, the question wasn't, "Dad, can we come back and go to the Magic Kingdom (or Animal Kingdom) again next year?" It was, "Dad, can we come back and go bass fishing again next year?" The answer was a quick, "YES!"

Pros: Quantity of fish caught
Cons: none

I bought a 7am excursion for my husband for his birthday. He set sail on May 21, 2008 from the Contemporary. He had an awesome time. His guide was well informed and in the two hours they caught more than 30 fish. He did catch one bluegill that completely shocked his guide. If you have avid fishermen/women in your family I would definitely recommend this activity. The pictures of my husband holding up his catch with the Contemporary in the background are some of the best pictures taken during our trip. This was his favorite birthday present! He plans to do this again when we return next year.

Pros: GREAT fishing! Proximity to resort, friendliness of guide.
Cons: none

Booked the 10am excursion for myself and my 7yr old twins (boy and a girl) on Crescent Lake at the Beach Club. Walked down to the marina, met our guide Bill, and climbed aboard a brand-spankin new pontoon boat. In 2 hours we boated 18 fish...none less than 2 lbs. Both my kids caught 5lb+ bass...my boy's was right about 6 lbs. Bill was very entertaining (he and I talked baseball for most of the trip)and he showed the kids how he baited the hook, how to leave the bail open and watch their line etc. By the end of the excursion my kids were both calling out "Got one!" and I'd go over to help them land it. You should see the look on my daughter's face when she landed her 1st fish that day...a 3 lber! Bill said that the Epcot/Boardwalk area was the spot for big fish right now but you can catch more, smaller fish on the other lakes. I don't think he was sandbaggin me as we caught a ton of fish.
Lots of people walking by commented/questioned our fish. One lady said her husband didn't want to come with on their trip. She was texting hubby a picture of my daughter's big fish and said she thought he'd be more inclined to take the next trip.
While it was expensive, I got to share two relaxing hours with my kids doing something I love. The excitement & fun we shared was worth a fortune to me. And I think they'll be "hooked" (pun intended) now, too! 'Course, I've set the bar kinda high...they'll be disapointed in the bluegill ponds I bring them to around northern Illinois.
If you're a fisherman....give it a shot. You can walk across this lake on the backs of the bass!

Pros: Lots of fun and pictures...when you catch fish
Cons: You may catch fish, you might not

Let me start off with a critical detail that may change the way you look at this review: my father-in-law paid for this excursion, which was somewhere in the neighborhood of $250 before tip. If it had been my money, this review would be a little lower.

That said, we had a great time fishing although it took a looong 45 minutes before hooking our first bass. It was a glorious morning and it was actually great fun tooling around Bay Lake and checking out all the other resorts (Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Contemporary). But it was decidedly more fun catching fish. Our boat left at 7am and I think the sun needed to come up a little to wake up/warm up the fish. Near the end of our trip, with the sun higher in the sky, we started catching bass like clockwork. At one point, three out of four of us had fish on the line. Our guide (Gary?) was a good sport and quick on the net. We got some great pictures and it was quite an experience for my sons, aged 9 and 12.

So, in sum, fishing is lots of fun. $250 worth of fun? Maybe, maybe not.

Pros: Lots of fish & lots of BIG fish! The guides are great, too!
Cons:

We fished six times on the 12th, 13th, & 14th of November. Had a blast each time! Some days slower (only a dozen bass or so in two hours), but who cares. The two of us landed 19 bass in one hour on the last outing. Lots of fish 3 to 5 pounds. The guides kept us entertained and vice versa. We were on the premium package, so fishing was included. We highly recommend the premium package to die-hard fishermen, it's a real bargain.

Pros: Nice boat ride on Bay Lake
Cons: Very expensive and NOT worth it

We enjoy fishing and do it year round. We were out on the boat for two hours and caught 4 bass, each under one pound, in the last few minutes of the trip, under the dock we started from. No bites anywhere else we went. The "experienced" guide should have been able to provide a better experience but didn't.

We paid $250 for a nice boat ride and we did get to fish but it's not worth the money. You'd have just as much luck using a shoelace and a safety pin off the nearest hotel dock and you'd still have the cash. Take your kids fishing somewhere else and use the money elsewhere.

There are no guarantees on this excursion so don't ask for a refund. You get a boat, guide, pole and bait. You have to provide the fun.

Pros: A different experience
Cons: guide not too friendly, didn't catch but 2 fish...

DH and DS took a fishing expedition on Bay Lake. They only caught 2 fish, though I guess you cannot control that. The guide was nice, but very quiet and would not chat at all, so said DH and DS. I think that is ridiculous, considering the expense for the excursion. The boat was very nice, and they enjoyed the scenery and the fishing. Maybe another waterway would be better?

Pros: Everyone will catch a fish!!!
Cons: It's pricey

The fish picture at the top of this thread is from our first fishing adventure in May of 2003. My husband loves to bass fish and we went on his birthday while @ WDW. We chose the early morning trip before the weather got hot. It left about 6AM, just as the sun was coming up. Uby as our guide and fantastic!! We fished all around the lake in front of the Contemporary Resort, Wilderness Lodge & Ft. Wilderness. It was awesome to see Space Mountain in the background while on the lake. Andy caught about 15 fish on this trip, the big one is in the picture up there. I caught about 8 and I'm not an avid fisher-woman. It was so much fun!! We went again in November of that year, taking my parents along. The fishing wasn't as fast as in the spring, but we all still caught fish!! (Even my Mom who hadn't fished in 30 years!) At that time it was $250 per trip, you could take from 1-6 people. You pay for live bait on top of that, $10 a dozen or so. If there is a fisherman in the family, it's well worth it! You WILL catch fish for sure! You don't have to bait your hook or even take the fish off, unless you want to. They will do everything for you, we would totally recommend Uby...we request him now!! We recommended it to friends with 2 little girls and they had a blast too. If you want something different to do on the lake while @ WDW, go fishing!!

Pros: alone time with kids
Cons: none

I am rating the "fishing hole" at Port Orleans Riverside. Since my whole family got the flu on different days during our trip 4/30-5/5, we took advantage of the fishing hole with the "Well" kids. This was one of the highlights of the whole week. My son even caught a fish and still talks about it. It is inexpensive and a memory making event.
