Positive aspects of the product (pros): Engineering! Walt History!
      Cons: brutal in summer heat

I loved this tour and would absolutely do it again. It was, however, nearly unbearable in the summer heat, even starting at 7:15am in the morning. Our tour guide was an engineer himself and obviously LOVES his job. You get to hop on the train right after the morning hello show and go to the roundhouse. The roundhouse is where all the trains and monorails sleep for the night. :-) Great history of all the trains and how they got there. Go to a bathroom break BEFORE the tour, because there is no stop for a couple hours as you are backstage. Once you learn about all the safety checks that the trains go through each morning before they are allowed into service, you get back on the train to fill up with water at the Fantasyland Station. Then its back to Main Street Station and the Walt Disney / train history presentation. Did you know that the engineers in the engine car are only allowed to go around the world twice before they have to take a break, because it is 204degreesF in that engine! I thought my 11 year old son would like this better, but I think the summer heat did him in. Probably best not to do this tour in summer.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Very Informative
Cons: No talk box; very hard to hear

We went on this tour12/3 for my son's Bday. There were about 18-20 people in our group. The tour guide seemed very knowledgable about trains. Unfortunately, she was almost impossible to hear. First we got go into the park early and see Main St before the park opened. She gave us some general park facts. We could hear that. Next we boarded a train which took us to the round house. She talked the whole ride over. We were sitting about 2/3 back in the crowd and could barely hear anything she said above the noise of the train. Likewise, the round house was noisy. Lastly, we were brought back for a break and a presentation on the history of Walt and his love of trains. The presentation was given on the upper platform of Main St station. Between the Chrstmas music being piped from the building, the noise of the crowds below (the park was now open), and the intermittent noise of the steam trains when they were in the station. We could not hear at all. We saw several other tours that week where the Tour Guides used talk boxes. We just wondered why they didn't use them on this tour too.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Great for a train enthusiast
Cons: Have to arrive early and you need a park admission ticket

We arrived at the front of Magic Kingdom at 7:15AM to meet our tour guide. We were guided into the Magic Kingdom and received a quick walk tour of Main Street Station before boarding the train to go on a behind the scenes tour of the roundhouse (Maintenance Facility) which is located on a special spur track in the area of the old Mickey Toon Town Station. Once at the roundhouse we were only allowed to look into the maintenance shop. You are not allowed inside but we were able to take all the pictures we wanted. Our tour guide invited small groups into the cab of the locomotive and we learned how the train worked, how the trains we fired up each morning and how the trains are maintained. We than headed back to Main Street Station for a quick break where we were given coffee and water…YES! Something in Disney is free! We than were escorted back into Main Street Stations waiting area for stories about Walt Disney’s love of trains. At the conclusion of the tour everyone received a special Behind the Steam Trains Tour commemorative pin. The time at the end of the tour was 10:30AM.
