      • Description: Explore Walt Disney's passion for steam trains, and join the opening crew as they prepare for the daily railroad operation at the Magic Kingdom. This tour also offers the rare opportunity to visit the backstage "roundhouse".

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Very Informative
Cons: No talk box; very hard to hear

We went on this tour12/3 for my son's Bday. There were about 18-20 people in our group. The tour guide seemed very knowledgable about trains. Unfortunately, she was almost impossible to hear. First we got go into the park early and see Main St before the park opened. She gave us some general park facts. We could hear that. Next we boarded a train which took us to the round house. She talked the whole ride over. We were sitting about 2/3 back in the crowd and could barely hear anything she said above the noise of the train. Likewise, the round house was noisy. Lastly, we were brought back for a break and a presentation on the history of Walt and his love of trains. The presentation was given on the upper platform of Main St station. Between the Chrstmas music being piped from the building, the noise of the crowds below (the park was now open), and the intermittent noise of the steam trains when they were in the station. We could not hear at all. We saw several other tours that week where the Tour Guides used talk boxes. We just wondered why they didn't use them on this tour too.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Great for a train enthusiast
Cons: Have to arrive early and you need a park admission ticket

We arrived at the front of Magic Kingdom at 7:15AM to meet our tour guide. We were guided into the Magic Kingdom and received a quick walk tour of Main Street Station before boarding the train to go on a behind the scenes tour of the roundhouse (Maintenance Facility) which is located on a special spur track in the area of the old Mickey Toon Town Station. Once at the roundhouse we were only allowed to look into the maintenance shop. You are not allowed inside but we were able to take all the pictures we wanted. Our tour guide invited small groups into the cab of the locomotive and we learned how the train worked, how the trains we fired up each morning and how the trains are maintained. We than headed back to Main Street Station for a quick break where we were given coffee and water…YES! Something in Disney is free! We than were escorted back into Main Street Stations waiting area for stories about Walt Disney’s love of trains. At the conclusion of the tour everyone received a special Behind the Steam Trains Tour commemorative pin. The time at the end of the tour was 10:30AM.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): access to roundhouse, playing on the trains
      Cons: a lot of "stories"

We met at the MK at 7:15....had to take cab from WL to Contemporary Resort and then use walkway to MK. Security knows where you need to meet, just ask them. We had a group of about 15, mostly guys.

Conductor started with Disney's love of trains and set the scene. We then boarded the train and went on a behind the scenes spur to the roundhouse where you learned a lot about how the trains worked and where they came from. Finished up back in the MK train station with more stories and got a special pin.

If you like trains and Disney history and stories...and like exploring HOW things work, you'll like this. For me, I went on it because my significant other likes that kind of thing. I would have liked about an hour tour instead of 3 but others really soaked it all up.
