The real Christmas story
|
|
Cons:
|
poor line management by cast members
|
|
I attended a show in early December 2008 and decided not to do the dining package. I got in line 45 minutes before the show and barely got a seat. I ended up sitting on a wall next to a plant. My biggest complaint was that the cast members waited so long to begin seating the non-dining package line. The line had barely started moving when the choir began the procession. We weren't seated until after the show had started.
Overall, I loved the show. It was inspiring to see the true meaning of Christmas amidst the overwhelming commercialism of Disney. I would definitely see it again, and I would definitely make dining reservations first. I don't know if younger children would enjoy it.

I have seen this show every year for over 16 years including when they use to march down mainstreet at the Magic Kingdom and performed in main entrance at the train station. This show has become my Christmas tradition which now includes having dinner with friends who have move to Florida. Each year I leave the theater with the true spirit of Christmas. Take the time to see the show!

Oh my goodness!! Had only experienced this from the back, but my DH and I had a package for a late lunch and seating for the performance on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008. It was so wonderful that I felt speechless and teary-eyed. We had great seats up near the front. AWESOME!!! Chita Rivera was the narrator and she was fabulous. I will do this again!! It was one of the highlights of my whole Christmas season.

This was the 4th time that I have done the Candlelight and it sure won't be my last. This is just the best thing about my Christmas vacation at Disney World every other year! I soooooooo look forward to it. This year I was lucky enough to have Marlee Matlin as the narrator again. What can I say but that she sure is a special lady. What a wonderfull evening! This show is just not to be missed.

Wow! What a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday season. The choir and musicians were truly fantastic. As Christians, we enjoyed hearing the Christmas story read from the Bible, and hear the traditional carols sung.
We had a dinner package with reserved seating, but didn't realize if we didn't stand in the reserved line for 1 hour prior to the performance that we would be stuck in a far left seat with limited view of the stage and musicians. We would have had a better view if we stood in the back.
I would recommend that if you want a good seat, you stand in line! It is well worth it!

We attended the 5:00 performance on Dec. 18 with Chita Rivera. We had never been at Christmastime, even though we normally go to Disney twice a year. This event was Amazing! Very uplifting! Everything was so well done, music, decorations, precision. As an ASL interpreter, I particularly enjoyed Brian, the interpreter for the performance. We were lucky to be seated a dozen or so rows back from where he was standing. It really increased the enjoyment for my entire family. Even Ms. Rivera made a specail point of recognizing him.

We saw the Candlelight Processional on Dec 19th. The choirs and orchestra were amazing. Abagail Breslin was the narrator and although she did a good job, she corrected herself many times during the readings. We have seen Gary Sinese, George Kennedy, Jim Cervizal and others before and would have preferred them but for her age, she did a good job

We booked our candlelight processional exactly 180 days in advance as allotted by Disney. We made reservations for Christmas Eve for the Biergarten Dinner. Reading other posts, I made sure to ask the time we needed to check-in pre-dinner time and we were seated earlier than our reservation time. This was a godsend, because not only did we move through the buffet quicker but we also were seated with our food when an authentic German entertainment show was ready to begin. The food was great and authentic, and worth the price to eat a more balanced meal.
Our dinner time was hours in advance before our 8:15pm Candlelight show, so we had time to leisurely eat and then do last minute country visits before standing in line for the processional. I suggest that you ask a cast member with the Candlelight show in which line to stand in before you need to get there (there are two lines), and if you go on a day that tends to be busier (like Dec 24th) you may even need to stand in line sooner than you think. People were already lining up at 6:45pm for the 8:15pm show, I couldn't believe it, and when we arrived back 20 minutes later the line was beginning to become long. So we decided to get into line as well--and by the time we got sat our line had wrapped around close to the France country (3 countries away)- however everyone did get seated, but we had our choice of better seats since we were closer to the front of the line. You will get seated if you have the dinner package before others who are in the standby line, so fear not if you made the choice to enjoy your extra hour not waiting in that long line.

You May Not Get a Seat If You Don't Have the Dinner Package
|

My husband and I attended our first Candlelight Processional at Epcot on Dec. 22 at 8:15pm. We had booked the dinner package back in June, and we are very glad we did! The line to be seated was very long, and I would be surprised if any of the folks in the non-package line got in. The program was beautiful and very moving. The orchestra was wonderful; the conductor was very energetic; the choir was awesome; and the American Sign Language Interpreter was absolutely amazing -- she really got into it. We ended up watching her more than anything else! The narrator was Steven Curtis Chapman, and he did a great job. We could tell he was very happy to be there. We'll be back next year, probably for the 8:15pm show again as it's dark, and the candlelight is so much more dramatic. We will definitely book the dinner package again so we are assured a seat in the amphitheater.

Sometimes long wait

We saw the Candlelight Procession this year on December 12, with Marlee Matlin as narrator. As usual, the presentation was awesome. The choir and orchestra did a great job and I love this telling of the story of Jesus' birth. I especially love the short narration about the one life that changed the world. We had the dinner package so didn't have to wait in the long line for a seat. Those without the package seating had a long wait that night for at least the first 2 showings.

This was a great new thing for both me and my fiancee. It is always refreshing to me to see a company embrace a religious celebration for the true meaning of the holiday. This concert got both of us more in the Christmas spirit and brought smiles to our faces.
I would definitely do this again, I hope this continues to be a tradition of Disney far into the future.

Attended during week of 12/1. We had the Candelight Proc package for 5:30 show , with lunch at Biergarten first , which was very convenient. Seats were AWESOME , three rows from front , excellent viewing . I was not terribly impressed with Neil Patrick Harris as narrator. He did a compentent job , but seemed almost lackadaisical to me. If we do this again , I would choose different presenter and a later time ..to get full effect of the lighting and candles. At 5:30 . it was still light out and I think it lost some of the WOW factor .A lovely way to start the holidays , and I would recommend this event. Very well done.

We attended the Candlelight Processional on December 2 with Neil Patrick Harris as the celebrity narrator that evening. We had the dining package, had lunch at Tutto Italia and preferred seating for the 5:00 show. It was breathtaking. The orchestra, choir and story was all on point. Not to mention what a crush I have always had on Neil Patrick Harris, since his Doogie Howser days. I scheduled our trip in early December because I recall that he was the narrator is early December for the past couple years. He was fantastic !! This is an event not to be missed.

I completely enjoyed this (and I even had to stand behind the roped off part behind the seating area). We arrived about 45 mins. early and the line was so long we were afraid we wouldn't make it into the show so we decided just to stand through the show. I had originally made dinner reservations with for the show/dinner package, but the restaurant changed its menu and no longer had what we wanted. When I tried to make different reservations, there were none available.
This is a must see. I can't wait to go back to see it again, although I will make sure to get the dining package in order to have reserved seating.

Expectations may not match reality
|

I am a Music Director for a Baptist Church in Hampton where we present a Candlelight program with orch - basically like the description for this show.
Let me start with the PROs:
The musicians were outstanding (considering the environment) and the mass choir sounded great. The narrator on our night was very good and had feeling. The songs/arrangements were up to Disney standards. Overall an enjoyable "concert"
The CONs-
You need to remember this is DISNEY and not a church service. I came expecting a program with the Gospel story matched with Christmas Carols (ie. the standard Candlelight Service). The main problem I had was that the music selections did not amplify or complement the reading. Basically, this would be better titled "A Christmas Musical Celebration". Almost every arrangement ended with a BANG which not what I would want in the Candlelight Service
Please note that I gave this an 9! This is a DON'T MISS event but if you approach it with the expectations the write up gives you, you may feel let down.
PS. We saw the final show of the evening and I was able to chat with one of the percussionists as they packed up.
