Skillet dinner was very good. Hearty meats and sides, hard to leave hungry.
Server, and her fellow servers, were very sassy, fun time.

This was our first meal on our first trip to Disney World. It was so much fun. Yes, it is noisy and the antics are over the top, but that is what made it memorable for us. Our daughter had a blast joining in the fun. We had the skillet and it was good. I think we will kick off our next visit with a return trip!

Our family ate here on May 29th for the first time. We knew a little bit what to expect and we enjoy 'antics' in restaurants so this was fun for us. The kids especially liked the antics and running for ketchup. The skillet was good although I was disappointed that they didn't offer another veggie than the corn. I told the server I had braces and while she was sympathetic, there was no other hot veggie offered. Other than that, we liked the food and the milkshakes and the antics. We had no complaints but I couldn't rate this spot a 9 or 10 because I did not think the food and the dinner were as good as we like at Ohana's or 50s prime time (somewhat comparable experiences at those restaurants). If you are staying at the lodge, this is a convenient and good place to eat but I don't think I would go out of my way to eat here if I wasn't staying onsite.

Cons:

Noisy; irritating distractions

What would once have excited me at the prospect now fills me with dread.
The Whispering Canyon (rather ironic a name) is in fact a very noisy hoe-down. Whilst trying to eat your dinner, you'll be bombarded by entertainers whisking kids away to the centre for a dance and corny sing-alongs. It's great for enthusiastic kids (most will be tired after a day at the parks), but it's really unpleasant for equally tired adults wanting a nice dinner.
Come to think of it, surely, as this restaurant's right next to the lobby, surely it's annoying for other guests?
The food itself is passable, and that's why I would only just suggest going, but my instinct would be to say no. If you can bear the distractions and cheesy camp-style singing, then be my guest and eat here; the food isn't bad.

Last trip we thought we'd try out this restaurant, having heard good things about how fun and how good the food was.
Our table was not in the main dining room, but behind a giant fireplace in another small part of the back forty. We felt totally isolated from the "fun". Our waiter was boring and dull and barely spoke to us. He never once offered to get us any refills on anything. The food was just okay. We probably won't go back.

We have ate at Whispering Canyon several different times over the years. Our visit in June 2011 was excellent. The food was very fresh and good. We went at lunch, so the atmosphere is not quite as over the top. The waiter could not decide whether or not to play things up or not. The corn on the cob was outstanding. The ribs were meaty and not overly fatty. The chicken was moist and tasty. The corn bread was good but ordinary. The service was excellent. I can't think of anything to complain about. My high marks are relative to the price. You can get a better meal elsewhere on WDW property but you will pay accordingly. If you want to save a little bit of money and want the atmosphere to be toned down, I suggest trying lunch at Whispering Canyon.

My husband and I ate at Whispering Canyon on May 27. We both decided on ordering the all-you-can-eat skillet. My husband thought the chicken was delicious while I thought the ribs were amazing. However, we both thought they could have given us more of each of the sides. We asked for more of everything and by the time we received those items, we weren't hungry anymore. As for dessert, my husband ordered the apple caramel pie and thought it was rather dry. I ordered the Smores cheesecake. I've had better. We were seated next to the fireplace in the little back room that they have, so it was nice atmosphere but even there it did get loud at times.

We ate here for dinner on 5/24/11. Our waitress was "Tumblweed" and she was great. She really got into her role. My husband was hoping for a great waitress to live up to our last vist and she exceeded this expectation. DH got the skillet and had a hard time finishing everything on the plate. I had the NY strip - very tasty. Kids has the grilled fish and the cheeseburger. Couldn't believe my 4yo ate the fish but he loved it.
DH asked for the BIG mug of tea but was teased with 2 smaller versions before she finally brought out the BIG one. Then he asked for the pink packets and she had everyone in the restaurant bring him a packet! Cute little girl at the next table over just kept bringing him packets.
Great food, loud restaurant, but very fun.

Quality of food, REALLY loud
|
|
I have been to this restaurant on two prior trips so I knew it was loud and I was aware of all the different antics that go on during dinner. I booked here the first night we arrived because we were staying in the villas and I knew that we would be tired. There were six of us. They sat us right next to the bathroom exit so there was constant traffic going by our table. We had a good waitress who got into her role but wasn't over the top. Personally, I was a bit too tired to have my napkins and straws thrown at me but I understand that this is just a role that they play. We were on the deluxe plan so there was a LOT of food. One of the problems is I don't like all my food to come to me at once. We had appetizers, salads and the skillet all left on our table. Talk about food overload. The appetizers were very good, the salad also good. The skillet I found was dry and not tasty. This would be the first time that I found the quality of food not what it has been in the past. Overall, not bad but I don't think we will back anytime soon.

We visited the WCC for dinner on 5/18. It was our second trip to the restaurant, and we'd had a nice time back in 2008. My daughter, in particular, loved the hobby horse races and the songs. And anytime you've got "all you can eat" meat, my husband's in.
This time around, we arrived for our 5:10 pm reservation, and were led through the nearly-empty main dining room to a smaller, separate room in the back with 4 tables in it. I didn't think it would be a problem, but it was absolutely terrible -- the kids couldn't even hear (let alone see or participate in) the fun going on in the main dining room. Our server made no effort to make sure they were included in the fun. They were bored mindless, as were we.
The food is about how I'd remembered it -- not horrible, but not good. The ribs are very fatty and the meat is an off-putting bright red. The pulled pork is good, and I didn't taste the chicken because they only brought dark meat (something I dislike under normal circumstances, but cannot stomach at all when I'm pregnant). To my dismay, they no longer offer shrimp with the dinner skillet. The corn was your standard-issue frozen corn, and there was no green vegetable offered besides the meal-opening salad.
On our first trip, I was willing to overlook the mediocre food because the experience was fun. But if you happen to get seated in that odd room where there is no experience, then the food stands out all the more. Even my husband, a die-hard meat eater, would not eat here again.

The only reason I did not give a ten was because of the response that I got when requesting a table in the main dining area. Background- this was the third restaurant of the trip where we felt that it was advantageous to be seated in the main dining area for the activity that occurs so the kids would be entertained during dining and the third time we were about to be seated in the corner in the back for the third time. I was beginning to have a complex. It was my son's 5th birthday so I wanted it to be a special birthday dinner for him. Again, I did not learn from the previous 2 experiences that you should put in a seating request at the podium when checking in. The restaurant looked like it was all in one room but low and behold we were going to be seated at one of the few tables out of the action area. I decided I was not going to settle tonight because of my son's birthday. I asked the hostess to be seated in the main area after she escorted us the back corner - she looked dumbfounded, annoyed and put out. I pushed on as there were ample table in the main area that were open and could accomodate us. Another CM stepped in and said "no problem" and took us to one of the open tables in the main area. The dinner turned out to be so much fun for our kids especially my son who was having the birthday. I am glad the pursued a preferred table this time. I suggest that you put in a seating request at the podium if you want to sit in a particular area.
Our server was excellent and was fun. Food was plentiful and we enjoyed all of it. The young kids liked their kids meals. They thought it was the best of the trip. They enjoyed all of the hoop-la and the activities. I wish I had more room to eat more. We enjoyed the food and the experience.

This was my least favorite place, food was ok but not anything special and our service was really, really bad. I'm still waiting on my water! We got the skillet, corn and potatoes were good, chicken was good, bbq was ok, I didn't care for the other meats. We ordered seconds on corn and potatoes but it took so long to come we were way passed being through. I tried to cancel the order since we were finished eating but they brought it anyway. The kids did enjoy the antics, but it was not what I had expected. This is not a place I would return to and was our least favorite of the week.

We love Whispering Canyon! We have now been there on two different trips. It is so much fun. The food is awesome! We went on April 3, 2011 for our dinner reservation. They were a tiny bit behind on schedule, but we didn't really wait very long to be seated. Our waitress was nice and we really enjoyed our food so much. We got the Skillet. We were at the restaurant for quite a while - it isn't really a quick meal - but that is okay because it is a lot of fun.
I highly recommend this restaurant both for the food and the fun!!! We love it!!!

One of our faves, we always repeat it. The food (barbeque) is excellent, every time. The wait staff is usually great. We have had some that are more fun than others...but it is all in how your family responds to them most of the time. They are very strict about ages, etc. Birthdays are fun and so are any other celebration events. Very kid friendly. It is generally noisy but you can still have a great family experience, too. It is usually how we start our trip to get us in the Disney spirit!

My husband declared this the best meal of the trip. It was our first time eating here and we'll be back for sure. We both shared the skillet which was packed with tasty food. We ate pulled pork, smashed potatoes, corn on the cob, brisket, and I can't remember what else. You are served a salad here which normally isn't covered on the dining plan, but it is here. You can also get milkshakes instead of soft drinks....also included on your meal plan. My husband had a strawberry shake and I had a creamsicle one. Yum! Refills are included. I can't remember what we ate for dessert, but we really didn't need it. The meal alone filled us up. The antics of the servers are cute. One gentleman next to our table asked for more coke, and the server brought out a huge mason jar filled with coke. Funny! This is definately a place to check out especially if you are traveling with children. Even travelers without kids like us enjoy it here. Check it out. Just don't ask for the ketchup!
