We have eaten here a few times but not since the menu change. That was a little disappointing. The food was good. We had a non meat eater in our party of 10 and they brought a pasta dish that they say was good. The desserts were ok. Our server was Jeffrey (from Miami) and he played the part very well. They still do the ketchup routine but unless you have kids its not needed. All in all I could skip this in the next few trips.

Now that our kids are growing out of the character meals, we wanted to try something different. Had never been to Wilderness Lodge so it was fun to walk around and see geyser erupt on the 1/2 hour. Kids had fun playing with Lincoln logs before we were seated.
The atmosphere was fun. Loved asking for ketchup. But not the place to go if you are more serious or want a quiet meal. Kids had fun with pony rides.
Having never eaten here before, I didn't Know what they used to offer. I will agree that it was pretty limiting. We were on ddp and I don't like that they got rid of appetizer. We paid oop for one.
We had cornbread and app to start. Same yummy cornbread as Hoop De Do. They offered to bring all 6 meats, although the menu said they'd bring 3. We didn't try the chicken or sausage though. DD8 liked fish, pork was just ok, and ribs were dry. We all loved steak best. Mashed potatoes were good too. I loved the buckle. No other dessert offered. But barely had room for it. Left VERY full.
We are party of 5 and baby. This is first time a server hasn't charged us auto gratuity for being 6. And guess what, we gave him MORE!

Limited choices with the new skillet menu

This restaurant is a lot of fun, and there's certainly enough food to go around. The pony races for the kids were fun, but things got even better when the staff asked all the men in the restaurant to line up and sing "I'm a Little Teapot". The kids got to laugh at the adults and really got into the spirit of things afterwards.
The food was tasty and filling, and the server was happy to bring more of it when needed. My only complaint is that the new skillet menu is a bit limiting. I preferred the old menu.

Very disappointed with the entire meal

We have eaten here each time we visit WDW and looked forward to the great steaks and the creamy red bliss mashed potatoes. We didn't realize their had been a menu change and it was not a change for the better. The only entree choice was the family style skillet dinner which was not appetizing or enjoyable.
For dessert...jalapeƱo cheesecake??
Old saying..."If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"...why was a great menu changed?? We won't return until the menu changes back!!

Great Service and Food

Cons:

Too much food

We ate at the Whispering Canyon in October and experienced the new menu. The service and food was great with the only drawback being it was way too much for all six of us to eat. We normally stay at the Wilderness Lodge and this is one of the places that it is a tradition for us to eat. We will surely maintain that tradition.

We had eaten here our last time in the World and enjoyed it so we decided to give it another go. Had dinner here on 12/24/12. The endless milkshakes are great and we love the entertainment; yelling for ketchup, the pony races, watching someone get put in jail. However, I have to say that the food was only so-so. It's worth it if you have younger kids but as mine are now teenagers I should have chosen some place else for dinner

A little loud

I will agree it was a little loud but everyone seemed to be having a good time, including our waiter. We had (12/05/12) the pulled pork on our skillet. I had read that this was no longer an option (and it was not on the menu) but it was on the first skillet they brought out to us (no, we did not ask for it). It really is as good as everyone talks about. I hope next time we go, it's still there.

Yes, it is a rushed meal but then it's a family style all you can eat restaurant at WDW. The skillet was well-cooked. Cornbread is served initially and you can also choose to pay for an appetizer. We shared a navajo bread which was amazing. The milkshakes are still all you can drink and you can change flavour each time. We tried the caramel and strawberry which were both too sweet for my taste and the chocolate which was delicious. You then choose three options of meat/fish to start with (we went for the beef, ribs and chicken) and this is brought out with stir fry veg, corn on the cob, cowboy beans and mashed potato. We loved everything on this platter. The second two meats are automatically brought out later. we didn't care for the sausage which was a chorizo style sausage but did enjoy the white fish topped with breadcrumbs. You then re-order as much as you want of the entrees. We loved the ribs and veg and ordered lots more of them. They would be better off giving you ice-cream or pie as dessert as the buckle was just ok but the chocolate cake and the jalapeno lime cheesecake were truly awful. May be expensive oop but fantastic value on the plan especially with the refillable mmilkshakes.

rushed service

We ate here for the first time on October 26th.
The service was friendly but very rushed. No sooner were our drinks ordered, then my husband's soup came. And then right after that came the skillet. I asked them to wait until he was finished his soup (and to their credit they left gracefully).
The food was ok, but nothing special (especially for the price). We didn't care for any of the 3 desserts (cheesecake, Neopolitan cake and buckle).
The high point was atmosphere; my son really enjoyed asking for ketchup!
I wouldn't recommend it unless you had the (free) Disney Dining Plan.

limited menu choices, and some aren't so great

We ate here our first night at Disney, and was one of our worst meals. The kids had fun, with the milkshakes, pony races, etc. But the recent menu change was definitely not an improvement. None of the items on the platter we ordered were anything to write home about, and when tried the others, they weren't any better. The cherry-jalapeno cheesecake in a glass or whatever that thing was supposed to be, was just bizarre and disgusting. The buckle was good, though.
It was great for breakfast, but I'd skip it for dinner.

Whispering Canyon is a very cool hotel

|
Cons:

the downhill slide of this restaurant has finally flattened out at bad
|
|
We have dined at Whispering Canyon Cafe almost every year since 1995. The food and atmosphere has continued to decline year over year since. Up until this last menu change it was not great but not bad - certainly predictable. This current menu change is disappointing. The salad is gone and the new platter is not the same as the old skillet. The chicken is over seasoned, the beef is extremely plain, the mashed potatoes are awful. The sauteed vegatables are good but odd with the rest of the items. The desserts are okay but the dinner was just fine before without them. unfortunately, we will not be returning to this restaurant on a future trip if the menu remains the same.

VERY LOUD, Don't like new menu
|
|
Just returned from our latest WDW vacation. We usually dine at the Whispering Canyon in the Wilderness Lodge at least one night, as we did this time BUT .... we were surprised to find that the menu format and options had changed and were VERY DISAPPOINTED. The food was decent but really didn't like the choices. If it had not been so late we would have gone elsewhere for dinner.
This was the last night and kind of left a sour taste (no pun intended) on what was otherwise a great experience. Hope they bring back to the old Whispering Canyon menu...

Slow service, so-so food

We ate at Whispering Canyon this past Tuesday. We were disappointed that they are no longer doing the all you can eat skillet that is on the menu on the Disney website. It's still all you can eat, but they bring it to you on a platter, and it's not as much as was advertised in the skillet. Also, there is no more menu, ONLY the platter meal.
The food was good, but not spectacular. The platter had five meats (ribs, chicken, fish, sausage, sliced beef) and sides (mashed potatoes, vegetables, beans, corn on the cob). And then you got 3 small desserts to share, which weren't too exciting. Everything tasted good, but it was about what you'd find at a regular BBQ place. Not really worth the nearly $35 per person price tag.
We were celebrating our son's fourth birthday, and the whole restaurant sang to him, which was fun. We pre-ordered a cake, which they had ready and waiting for him. He enjoyed the stick horse race and thought the waitress was pretty silly.
It was certainly loud and busy, but there wasn't as much "antics and entertainment" as I had read about and anticipated. It was 8:30 by the time we sat down, so maybe they are winding down by then?
All in all, it was a fun experience to go check out another hotel (we were staying at All Star Movies), but I don't know that I'd go again.

We always try to get reservation at Whispering Canyon... not anymore. For those that like the skillet meal; it is no longer available as of 9/19/12 and actually is a whole new menu as of that date (waitress communicated this). We were disappointed but assumed since it was a sit-down meal, we would love ordering off the menu. Mine was the Western Salad and while it was good, it was nothing great. My husband ordered Fish and Chips and he got a few pieces of fish in a basket with fries... THAT's IT! No salad...slaw... counter service quality would be a stretch! We typically look forward to coming to this resort restaurant even though it is noisy... we understand that goes with kids and Disney. I have never posted anything negative about the resorts or restaurants but felt now was the time.

If I could give this place a zero, I would. I came here on my last night at Disney, which also happened to be my sister and her kids' first night (and 1st time) at Disney. The hotel lobby was beautiful and we got in quickly for our 8:55 reservations for a party of 12. That's where the fun ended.
Our waitress was beyond awful and unlike any server I have ever experienced in my years of Disney (or out of Disney). She forgot our drinks, gave us attitude and plain out ignored our table. The food was fatty and greasy, very unappealing. I think the ribs had more fat than meat.
Then, at the end of dinner, we were told that they were out of two of the three desserts on the menu. She brought out five tiny slices of cake on tiny plates and said we could split it. A table of 12! She somehow came up with two more of the desserts (she found, she says). She ignored my twin niece and nephews birthday until after ten o'clock and scoffed at us when we reminded her. She charged drinks on the wrong receipts and when we asked her to fix it we once again got attitude. She took a good thirty minutes in the back to figure it out and then, apologized to the table next to us and told them to blame us for the wait and pointed to our table. I talked to the manager and she took off our gratuity but assured me the girl would still get her tip. Are you kidding me? The manager could have cared less. The meal took over 2 and 1/2 hours and we ended up having to take a bus to the outpost, then to Downtown Disney just to get to our resort since the buses at the other parks were no longer running. Miserable service and miserable food made for a group of miserable guests. DO NOT waste your time here!
