Pros: characters, desserts
Cons: food so-so, felt a little rushed, and yet took a long time

My family has eaten at Chef Mickey's a couple of times through the years, the latest was Wednesday, November 11. I scheduled this dinner because we were travelling with another family whose kids had never been to WDW and I didn't want to try and find the Fab 5 in the parks. CM was what I have come to expect - food is okay, nothing to write home about (except for the dessert - I thought it was scrumptious!) It wasn't that anything was bad, just nothing extraordinary.

Characters are the reason to come here - by that I mean getting the actual signature and meeting them so that the kids don't feel like they NEED to stand in line anywhere else. Still, the character interaction wasn't fabulous - quick signatures and pics, they didn't even stay long enough to get pics of the two sets of kids separately and then together. Also, one of the characters (Pluto?) missed us on the first round and it took forever for him to come back around (he actually skipped us on the second time through, too, but our server managed to get him to come over so that we could leave.) Overall, for as little time as we spent eating we spent a fairly long time in the restaurant trying to get everything else taken care of. We had 6:50 reservations (though we got there early and were seated early - around 6:30) and still ran into the fireworks crowd coming out of the MK at 8:20. But we were a table of 8, so maybe that is why.

Overall - I think I like breakfast here better than dinner, but if on the dining plan you get more "value" for dinner. We probably won't go back for dinner.

Pros: characters
Cons: food/ambience

Ate dinner here on Nov.8th to celebrate my niece's 6th birthday. Maybe the expectations were too high but we were very disappointed. The food was terrible (especially the Mickey ravioli) and the atmosphere was lacking (maybe it was because we were seated in a small room off to the side of the main dining area?) This was a restaurant that we had always wanted to try but we have no plans of ever going back. The characters were the one saving grace for Chef Mickey's. They spent lots of time at each table and were very playful with both the children and adults. Unfortunately, this was by far the worst meal of our entire trip. Disney has many delicious character meals but, this is not one of them. Maybe this is a hit or miss restaurant but, for us it was definitely a miss.

Pros: Characters
Cons: Food

We ate at CM on Monday, 9/28. We were excited about eating there because we had heard good things about it. I was not impressed at all with the food, it was mediocre at best-we ate at Crystal Palace & Hollywood & Vine (also buffets) at other times during the week and the food was much better at both locations. It seemed to me that they were rushing the characters right through, they barely stopped long enough for pictures and we never did get Donald Duck to stop at our table-when we complained to the CM, they sent us to the other side of the room and we got a chance for a quick picture while he was between the other tables. The soft-serve machine wasn't working properly and I ended up with a bowl of ice cream soup; when I mentioned it to a CM, she said they were "having problems with it" and then shut it down-if they had been "having problems" with it, why the wait to shut it down? The only good thing I can say is that the chef slicing the roast beef went and obtained a portion for me that was more well done, as the roast he was slicing from was too rare for my taste. We won't be eating here again, if I need to see Mickey during a meal I'll go to the Safari Breakfast in Animal Kingdom.

Pros: Atmosphere and timeliness
Cons: Food choices

We chose this for our character meal during our visit 10/09. We had 5:10 reservations and were very pleased with the check-in and seating process. The atmosphere is very fun and the characters are all favorites. I am pleased at how organized the character trek is through the dining room. We celebrated our 10th anniversary and enjoyed the cupcakes during the napkin spin song and dance. I only give this dining experience a 7 because of the food selection. I was very disappointed that there were not more options for either the main course or the side dishes. There were tons of choices for dessert, though! If I go back, it will be for the breakfast meal.

Pros: Characters
Cons: Food

Our family has eaten here three times, the last two times within the past year. However, on our September 2009 trip, we decided to cancel our reservations, because we have been so disappointed in the food the past two times. Concierge was able to get us a different character dining reservation. If you have not been here before, it is worth it for the characters and the "napkin spin" that they do with the kids. The food is average at best. Unfortunatley, this seems to be true of most character buffets. The family style character meals seem to be better.

Pros: Food, Service and Characters
Cons:

DH and I dined here on 9/19 with his family. We have all been here before and were looking forward to our meal. We were a party of 8. There was no wait. As soon as we had our pictures done, we were seated. Our server was Jessi and she was excellent. My MIL has several food allergies and the Chef was great about walking her through and showing her what she could and could not eat. He also brought her out some specially made items. There was a good selection of food on the buffet and we enjoyed everything we had. The characters were great and spent plenty of time with all of us getting pictures and signing the autograph books. We had 3 anniversaries between us and a couple of other celebrations too. Jessi brought out a plate filled with cupcakes for the Celebration party they do. We had a lot of fun at Chef Mickey's. We will most definitely be back.

Pros: Characters
Cons: Buffet selection not as large as other WDW buffets

We had dinner on 10/10/09. Kids said it was the favorite character meal of the week. The character interaction was wonderful. Our ADR was for 5:10 and we got seated immediately upon check-in. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. We never waited for anything.

The food was good but the selection didn't seem as large as it was at the buffets for Crystal Palace and 1900 Park Fare.

Pros: Characters
Cons:

We were seated within 5 minutes of our reservation time. The character interaction was great. Mickey yelled at my husband for not wearing his anniversary pin. This buffet had the most traditional foods. Everything was great. The ice cream bar was really enjoyed. This was our favorite meal of the trip.

Pros: Food selection offers wide variety. Characters are fun!
Cons: Very loud.

Review submitted by Maryandtyson:

We enjoy buffets for the variety offered. DD7 and DD5 got veggies, fruit, shrimp, chicken and the fabulous ice cream bar. DH and I enjoyed the Mickey ravioli (too cute) and I enjoyed the salmon and veggies. Love the little desserts and tried key lime, carrot cake and the adorable Mickey oreo. Also DH and I each enjoyed a beer. DDs love seeing the characters, of course, and it sure beats waiting in line at the parks for autographs. It is very LOUD in the restaurant and there aren't as many food options as Crystal Palace. But the food is pretty good considering how many people they serve.

Pros: Characters
Cons:

Getting to meet Mickey Mouse and the other characters is what made this restuarant worth it. My son loved the characters and the parades. The food was good, not necessarily great. I did enjoy the desserts the most.

Pros: The Characters
Cons: Food

Honestly, it's the characters that make this place! The food is quite terrible compared to other restaurants we dined at last week, Boma and 'Ohana!

I ate more salad than anything at Chef Mickey's. When we sat down the we had just missed Minnie Mouse and they ended up making a special meeting of my son and her before we left because she wouldn't be back at our table for a while. Very nice of the escorts to do for us.

I'm just thankful we were on the free dining plan for this, otherwise the $80 our meal would've came to would've been highly disappointing!

Pros: characters
Cons:

We had lunch here on the 26th of Sept. We actually arrived about 30-40 minutes early and was pleasantly surprised that they could seat us. Food was good. Most of your character dinners you'll find the food just good not great. We did enjoy this though. Went to Crystal Palace and didn't like their food at all. Waiter was very good and refilled drinks without having to ask. Character interaction was great. We would go again.

Pros: dessert and characters
Cons: loud

My DS 5 loves this place! So we go.... The food is greatly improved since last yr. The beef stroganoff and the mashed potatoes are very good. My fav is still the dessert choices. Key lime tarts, bread pudding with this incredible sauce! And the Mickey oreo domes, yum! Our waitress was really good. Busy but still attentive to our party and very friendly. The characters were good as well. Got the best pic ever of DS 5 with Mickey Mouse!

Pros: Great place for kids to interact with the characters
Cons: Have to wait long past our reservation time & bad food selection.

We ate here on 9/20 for lunch. We have eaten here in the past and I have to say I was a bit disappointed this time. I wasn't thrilled with the food selection for lunch and most of the food just taster mediocore. My husband hardly ate anything. Thanks goodness we were on the free DDP because I do not feel like we would have gotten our monies worth. The buffet was just average. If you want your kids to see the characters this is a must because it beats having to stand in line at the parks. It was nice to just tell our daughter when we got to Character Spots in the parks that you already saw those characters at Chef Mickeys. A family next to our table had a great idea. They had brought aprons that were embroidered with their kids names on it and then had all of the characters signs their apron!

Pros: characters,food
Cons: loud

Chef Mickey's continues to be one of my families favorites. The characters do a GREAT job of making the rounds and we didn't have to wait too long after we finished eating to see them all. The food is going a bit down, but there were many choices and the kids loved the ice cream area. Very loud, but fun and would definately recommend if not going to many character meals. Great to see a lot of top characters!
