My wife an I have made it a point to come to Jiko on every trip we have taken to Disney since AKL opened, and we have never been disappointed in the food. There were 6 of us dining this time, in June 2011, and once again, it was fantastic. We split 5 apps, including 2 flatbreads, wild boar, and the various dips, and were happy with all of them. The boar was incredible! I had the lamb loin for my entree, and it was a generous portion, perfectly cooked. My wife had the short rib, and it was amazing as usual. We had one of every dessert, and the star was the olive oil cake. Our server was exceptional, and knew the perfect wines to accompany our meal, and she was very friendly as well. Another great trip to Jiko!

My wife and I participated in the latest Jiko Wine Dinner on May 4, 2011. With last minute cancellations, there ended up being just 2 couples. More wine for us!
The entire evening was fantastic. Post House Vineyards from the Stellenbosch region of South Africa supplied the wine and the owner/wine maker was on hand to explain all the details of how he creates his hand crafted wines.
We were also treated to a special menu prepared by the new chef at Jiko. He's been there since early March, coming over from the Yachtsmen's Steakhouse. Our meal was incredible and chef explained the details behind every dish. It ended up being 5 courses in all, with each course matched to one of Post House's wines.
The fixed price event was $125, so it's certainly not for everyone. But if you happen to be at WDW when Jiko is having another Wine Dinner, you should consider it. We loved it.

We had dinner here on March 28th, the food was fantastic! One of the best wines I have had in years. Our daughter has a severe peanut allergy and they were accommodating as usual. The market salad and the curried squash soup were both amazing. This restaurant continues to be number one on our list. Highly recommend

service, birthday card for our honeymoon
|
|
My husband and I dined here during our Honeymoon in February. We were paying out of pocket.
We waited quite a while to be seated past our ADR and then were brought through a rather empty restaurant to a table right by the kitchen doors, which was not romantic at all, though we were told that we were given the best seat in the house. Then, our waitress seemed insulted that we didn't need her to go over the entire menu with us. I check AllEars at least once a day, I know those menus backwards and forwards. When I told her we already knew what we wanted, she insisted on explaining the dishes to us.. and then did, even though we had everything picked out. We could hardly hear her. She spit out the descriptions so quickly that we had to pretend we knew what she was saying. We just nodded and smiled.
We were given a card for our Honeymoon celebration. Too bad the card had "Happy birthday!" all over it in Afrikaans and other languges. I googled it from the table to make sure I wasn't crazy.
Every other restaurant in Disney made us feel special, except for Jiko. While the food was phenomenal, we felt bewildered by the service. We ordered the Taste of Africa and the cheese plate. Both were delivered to our table by a runner with zero explanation of what we were getting. We had no idea what we were eating except that it was an "assortment of dips" per the menu. It was delicious, but there's no excuse for that in a fine dining restaurant. Later, we told our server we'd like to know what we were eating. She said "They were supposed to tell you. It's dark in here. I didn't set the plate down so I don't know which dip is which." Okay, then! Neither do we!
When our entrees were delivered (the lamb and the short ribs, AMAZING) our waitress explained the dishes.. again.
She also kept apologizing every time she did something, like refill a glass. This was not some kind of cultural issue. Our waitress was American. She literally said "I'm sorry" at least twice each time she visited the table. It was bizarre and uncomfortable. No, really, it's okay.. you don't have to be sorry for refilling my glass. I'm not inconvenienced by having something to drink.
Other couples have reported getting dessert on Mickey or a little something extra on the side. We got a candle; no sprinkles, no fanfare. We got so much more out of our celebration elsewhere. Not that we think we deserve anything for free, but come on. Regular table service meals set the bar high and Jiko didn't come close to meeting it.
With that said, we're going again in September. The food was amazing enough to try Jiko again!

My family and I ate here during the Food and Wine Festival last October.
We had early dinner reservations I'd made two days prior, and were quickly taken into the wine room (my first time!). We sat down, and our waitress, Mary, immediately came over. She asked if we had been here before. We said yes, after which she said "Yes, we still have the filet with mac and cheese." She read my mind!
We also ordered the appetizer cheese plate at her recommendation (delicious!).
When we saw the dessert menu, I was quite surprised and disappointed that they had taken the Kenyan doughnuts off of the menu. Mary looked at me, and said "be right back".
She came back with some Zebra Domes for us instead. She said "I know it's not quite the coffee ice cream, but it was the closest thing I know of".
All in all, a VERY satisfying dinner. We ordered another dessert, and she did not charge us for the Zebra Domes at all. And yes, she did get a nice tip.

We ate at Jiko on 2/17 /2011. There were four adults. The server first gave us scented towels to wash our hands. He laid out the bread basket with different breads and butter. The bread was good but different. For an appetizer, I ordered a Jiko salad, and my one friend ordered roasted butternut squash soup. The other friend ordered a BBQ chicken flatbread to share with her DH. My Jiko salad was YUMMY!. The mixture of the pistachios, cheese with the wonderful vinagrette-- I could have eaten two!My friends enjoyed their appetizers as well. I then ordered the shrimp curry as did my friend. Her DH ordered the steak and my other friend ordered the chicken. The shrimp curry was delicious. It is spicy but if you like spicy-this is the dish to get. We had at least 8 large shrimp with rice in the middle of the plate. The rice was flavorful and cooked perfectly. My friend also enjoyed the shrimp and said it was her favorite dish all week. Her DH who ordered the steak said it was cooked perfectly (rare) and he enjoyed it better than the California Grille. My other friend thought the chicken was ok- but too spicy to his liking (he isn't much of an adventurer). Our service was impeccable and we truly enjoyed the restaurant.I would enjoy an adult meal here again and look forward to going back!

It was our first time here, and everything was excellent. Our waiter, Gloria, explained us everything about the food. Me and my son (10) had the duck. It was tasty, the point of the cooking was exactly how I asked. My husband asked for the Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon and it was very very good too. My daughter and my mother asked the Grilled Shrimp Curry they were a little spicy but very good indeed. For dessert, the amarula creme brulee was wonderful, so the Tanzanian chocolate. everything had a slightly differential flavour. I love the atmosphere of the hotel too. Definitely a must do.

This was the best meal we had during our vacation. This is definitely a notch above most restaurants, and you can be leisurely. The shortribs were phenomenal (with truffle mashed potatoes) and chicken was very good. Dessert was cheesecake...also good. Nice wine selection, especially from South Africa. It is pricey and counts as two dining table service meals but it is worth it.
