Pros: Location & wonderful views!
Cons: elevators

Being Florida Residents, we travel often to WDW and have stayed at most of the resorts, from Value to Deluxe. Most often we stay at Port Orleans Riverside but once a year we splurge on a Deluxe Resort in honor of the kids' birthdays. This year we chose to return to the Contemporary despite not being very happy with the resort& its staff in our previous visits. We decided to give it another shot before writing it off for good. I am glad we did!

Our stay was for the week of Oct. 27-Nov 1st, 2009. We used online check in and even though we arrived at exactly 3:00pm for check in, there was no line at the online check in desk and it took no more than 2 minutes get our keys and welcome kit.

We always used to stay in the North Wing, first floor near the "beach" but since that building no longer exists, we opted for the Tower rooms facing Bay Lake. It was amazing! Gorgeous room, very clean and neat. The bathroom sink design was fine, we had no problem, but the counter space is lacking. We had stunning views of Bay Lake, Epcot and could see Aerophile's hot air balloon going up and down.

The room was located on the 10th floor, 3rd room from the stairwell, on the Magic Kingdom side (away from Chef Mickey's). The room VERY quiet, we never heard the monorail or Chef Mickey's singing once. Mousekeeping was okay, he kept leaving us only 3 towels even though we are a family of four. Plus, despite having a privacy sign on the door, he kept knocking at 9:00am every morning to clean the room.

We did not eat at the Contempo Cafe, instead we opted to use the "In Room Private Dining" or as the rest of us call it, room service (lol). The food was terrific! Breakfast for the kids was awesome, the LOVED the pancakes and have them every morning of our stay. The other breakfast items were good also. We order dinner also and it was also great. The food arrived hot and in a timely fashion by a very cheerful cast member. Granted, this service is at a premium but well worth it to us to avoid the chaos of the elevators.

We saw Illuminations from our balcony, albeit from afar, Hallowishes or Wishes every night from the stairwell balcony and the Water Pagaent from our room balcony. All big hits with the kids.

We mostly used the monorail and it was a huge PLUS to wait in the air conditioning instead of outside like you do at The Poly or the Grand Floridian. The monorail came every few minutes and there was never a long wait. We used the bus once to the AK and there was basically no wait and hardly any guests on the bus. We went straight from the Contemporary to the AK--no Blizzard Beach stop.

The only con I can think of is that there are only 4 elevators servicing a hotel full of guests leaving/returning to their rooms, the monorail station, the Contemppo Cafe and patrons for Chef Mickey's & California Grill. There was NO WAY you could get an elevator post the Wishes Fireworks. Literally 5 or 6 cars would come and they would be packed so you have to continue to wait. Not a great point but I also understand that there really is no where eles to add elevators too. Other than the crush time of dinner and the fireworks, the elevators were easy to call on.

The best thing about staying in the tower is that you have the monorail outside your door and the MK right there--that is worth the extra cost, if you can spare it. After a very long Not So Scary Party at the MK, it was wonderful to stroll back to the hotel instead of fighting the crowd on the resort monorail line. That was priceless! We will definitely be back next year!

Pros: Room size and location
Cons: Not enough drawer space

We just returned from a 8 day trip to WDW. The remodeled rooms at the Contemporary are very nice, but lacking in drawer space. Two large drawers and 2 small ones are not enough to accommodate the sleeping capacity of this room. The bathroom sinks were nice looking, but not practical. Even though the room had a number of different light sources, the lighting always seemed in adequate.

We had no complaints with Mousekeeping. They were wonderful!

We all liked the selection at Contempo Grab & Go, but would have liked a few more choices. Also it was quite a hike up to the 4th floor from our room in the south wing. Wish there was an option a little closer. All in all, still one of my favorite hotels on the property.

Pros: Location
Cons: Counter service food

We stayed at the Contemporary Sept 13-19th. Being able to walk right on to the monorail was worth the extra cost to stay here. We never had to wait more than a few minutes to get on. The rooms were nice and had a modern design. We were able to get a microwave & bed rails upon check in. The Magic Express delivered our luggage to our room while we were at the MK. Mousekeeping did a great job each day emptying the trash, making the beds, and providing clean towels. My only complaint is the food at the Contempo Cafe and the Sand Bar (yuck!). Other than that, the staff was pleasant, the pool nice & clean with a fun slide, the beach was fun, and they even had activities each evening you could participate in. We will definitely stay here again.

Pros: Great location, big, comfortable rooms, clean, & great mousekeeping
Cons: Noise from Chef Mickey's

We just returned from our trip to Disney World. We stayed at the Contemporary from September 8-14th. It was myself (6 months pregnant), my husband and four year old son.

Upon arriving to the hotel, we were directed to drop our luggage off and go in through the Convention Center as the front of the main entrance was under construction. Not a big deal at all, as there were plenty of cast members there to take your luggage and give you a ride to the front of the resort. Once we checked it, we were directed to a young lady who was very slow and not very helpful, but she did apologize to me, stating that she doesn't usually check people in, she just worked at the concierge desk. It kind of annoyed me since they should really have people who know what they are doing when your checking in and want information about your visit. I kept repeating myself to her asking her questions and she really couldn't answer me. When I had booked this vacation 9 months ago, I had requested a room on a higher floor since my son and I are both light sleepers. I know Disney can not guarantee this, but since it was a slow season, and the Pop Century accommodated this request back in December, I didn't think it was an issue. So when the cast member told me my room number, I asked her if it's on a high floor and she stated it was on the 5th floor. The floor right above Chef Mickey's, Contempo Cafe, the arcade, shops and monorail. I told her I requested a higher floor but she told me that there were none available. So after traveling for two days on the road I figured I would just get to my room and see how the noise was. She never even gave me my room key, I had to remind her of that too! LOL

Once we arrived to our room, it was directly over Chef Mickey's and so loud, I immediatley called the front desk, explained my situation and they quickly changed it for me with no problem, Within ten minutes were were moved to the 11th floor, luggage and all.

The rooms are very big and very comfortable, There is plenty of room to spread out, however, there is not enough drawer space to put your clothes. The bathrooms were very nice, but the sinks are quite silly! I had to place my bath towels in the them to use as a shelf, while I did my hair and make-up since there is no counter space either. Not a big deal though, it worked out just fine.

We were on the Bay Lake side which I think is much nicer than the Magic Kingdom side. We had the lake, with the sunrise to look at and the pool. It was very quiet out there. The sunrise every morning was great. The Magic Kingdom view is nice, of course, but you look down and see the parking lot and hear the noise of the construction outside the lobby. If you want to save the money, stay on the Bay Lake side and just go to the observation deck if you really want to see the Magic Kingdom fireworks.

Mousekeeping was great. Our room was always made up by time we came back for our afternoon break and turndown service was always done nice. They would always arrange my sons stuffed animals in funny ways which was a riot. They dump out your garbage and take away dirty towels and leave chocolates on your bed for turndown service. We always had plenty of towels and soaps as well. A quick note, turndown service is available to all guests, but you have to request it, otherwise they won't do it.

Contempo Cafe was good. A little more food to choose from would have been nice, but I am pregnant and picky, so that could just be me! All the staff members there were so friendly and helpful. The self ordering Kiosks are really easy to use.

The pool was spotless and the life guards were alert and always looking out, never just sitting around. The beach was clean as well.

The only complaint we had about this hotel that was an issue was the noise from the 4th floor with the shops and restaurants. We were on the 11th floor and you can still hear it. From 4:00 in the morning until 11:30 at night, there was noise. At 4am you would hear loud banging, almost like they were setting up and cleaning up, then at 7:00am, Chef Mickey's open's so you hear the constant singing from that until 11:30pm

I would definitely stay here again, just on the opposite side of Chef Mickey's. It's a beautiful resort that really makes you feel like you are in Disney.

Pros:
Cons:

Some thoughts on our recent trip to Disney and our stay at the Contemporary. We stayed from 8/4-8/11. We are a family of four, including my wife and two daughters, ages 4 and 3. This was our first trip with them to WDW.

Positives:
-Disney Express was quick and we were also the first stop. The luggage arrived while we were at dinner as well. Checking out and checking the luggage was even easier. Take advantage of this service if possible.
-When we checked in, we were surprised to be awarded "family of the day honors." These came with a certificate, balloons for the girls, and a delivery of chocolate and a family photo to the room. A nice way to start. We might have received this because it was the girls first trip and our anniversary.
-The room was very modern and large. The trip to the elevator, monorail, or pool were all quick and helped with two young kids.
-We liked the Contemp Cafe and Chef Mickey's (although the wait was long even with reservations).
-Pool area was large and the new kids splash area was also a lot of fun.
-Monorail service was always fast and we even walked back to the hotel from MK a few times.
-The MK view was unbeatable (10th floor), as was the view of the fireworks every night.

Negatives:
-Everyone mentions the sinks, and they aren't the most effective design.
-Housekeeping was slow and we didn't always get great service from our housekeeper. I believe this was an individual issue, as we interacted with other housekeepers for turn down service and they were more helpful and diligent.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would stay at the property again.

Pros: location/room
Cons: noise from Chef Mickey

We stayed in room 4625 on the 10th floor from 8/5 t0 8/11. It was the last room on the hallway near the entrance of the monorail.I could hear the party starting at Chef Mickey's at about 7 am but I was awake already so it didn't bother me too much. It was great watching the fireworks from the balcony. The kids loved the pool and waterslide. The splash ground was fun too for them. My son got sick and vomited on the carpet and the CMs were very responsive. They shampooed the carpet the next am. Overall, no complaints but if you are light sleeper try a room higher or on the side closest to the MK.

Pros: Location
Cons: Front Desk Staff

My wife and I made use of Disney’s “Buy Four, Get Three Free” promotion in order to spend seven nights in the Contemporary Resort for our first anniversary from 7/30-8/6. Having merely passed through the Contemporary in a state of awe previously, we were excited to have the chance to stay there ourselves.

Initially, we were thrilled to discover that our room was ready at the early hour of 7:45 am, and that represented the first and last time that we were happy about our resort. Unfortunately, we were unable to get into the room. We went back down to the front desk, and one of the cast members then came upstairs with us to determine what the problem was. He let us into the room with a master key and informed us that the door locks would have to be reprogrammed. We were advised to wait 15 minutes for someone to do so.

We waited for 30 minutes and decided that we wanted to head into the parks, and so we went downstairs again to advise the front desk of our situation. We told a different cast member about the locks needing to be reprogrammed and also advised him that we were missing a remote control for the television. With that, we hopped on a bus to Hollywood Studios.

Soaking wet from a torrential rainstorm, we returned to our room around 5:30 pm and were thwarted again by a malfunctioning door lock. We went back down to the front desk again, and they said that someone probably did reprogram the locks, but that we would need new key cards. New key cards in hand, we returned upstairs, and sure enough, the new cards didn’t work. So we went back downstairs yet again (knowing now that neither reprogramming nor remote control delivery had taken place), advising the front desk that they had had more than eight hours to fix the problem, and that we needed to get into our room soon. Finally, around 7:00 pm, a member of maintenance arrived and reprogrammed the lock, followed soon thereafter by a Mousekeeper with a T.V. remote. So the saga began…

The next morning on Friday, we found the message light was blinking on the telephone. In our attempts to retrieve the message, we discovered that although the phone could receive calls, there was no way to place outbound calls, including message retrieval. So, yet again, we went down to the front desk to advise them of our latest technical difficulty before leaving for the day. Needless to say, when we returned from the parks late that night, the phone was still not operational. It was not until Sunday around 3:00 that we again took the time to stop by the front desk to try to resolve the phone issue. Then, finally, someone came around 4:30 that day to make the necessary repairs.

The coup de grace came on Wednesday, our final night. We came back from dinner around 7:00, and we found the room to be uncomfortably hot. After 45 minutes of tinkering with the AC controls and waiting for the unit to engage, we realized that the AC was not working. Not wanting to remain in an oppressively hot room any longer than necessary, we decided to yet again tell the front desk in person about the problem. After notifying them of the problem, we decided to head to the lounge for an adult beverage. At 9:00, we decided to go back upstairs to see if, by some miracle, the problem had been addressed. Of course, no one had come to look at the AC. Instead, we had a message on the phone from the front desk, saying “We spoke with someone from Engineering about your AC, and they said that our records indicate that your room has a balcony. If you have the balcony door open, then the AC will not function properly. Please close the balcony door, and let us know if you have any additional problems.”

Suffice it to say, we had to go back down to the front desk yet again. We spoke to another employee and, after having her argue about how the AC unit would not allow certain temperature settings and having her ask us, with a straight face, if we needed to have the AC fixed that night, she finally agreed to send somebody up. It was around 10:30 that we went upstairs again and found two maintenance men working to replace the entire AC duct work, a procedure that they said would require about 1 ½ to 2 hours.

At that point, we returned to the front desk and demanded to be given a different room for the night. Luckily, our request was obliged.

It was the next day as we were obtaining our luggage from bell services for our departure on Magical Express that one of the bellhops asked if we enjoyed our stay. We told him the truth that we were extremely disappointed. He then went and got the attention of the Guest Services Manager. We then gave that manager a brief synopsis of our tragic stay. We made it a point to mention that it was not the problems themselves that made the stay so unpleasant, but rather the manner in which they were handled. Never once during our entire stay was a problem resolved after only one request. Luckily, he was the first employee during the trip to apologize for the abysmal service that we were provided. He then offered to reimburse us for our final night’s stay, which did help to soften the blow.

In all fairness, I must make brief mention of those things that the Contemporary did well. One, Bell Services was always timely and highly professional. Two, the food service staff, shop staff and housekeeping all seemed to be very solid. Three, the beds were absurdly comfortable. Lastly, the Contemporary boasts a convenient location that no other resort on property can match, which made using WDW transportation during the trip an absolute breeze. Nonetheless, we felt that the resort was absolutely not worth the money we paid, even with the final night’s discount. Had we paid full rack rate, we might have considered pressing charges for highway robbery. Ultimately, we returned from our vacation feeling as stressed as if we had never gone and, therefore, will likely stay off property for the first time during our next Disney trip.

Pros: room, view, size of quick service
Cons: none

We stayed here 7/30 - 8/3 in 4611 on the 10th floor. It was our first time staying at the Contemporary! We enjoyed the sleekness of the room design, especially DH. The large balcony facing Bay Lake was large, spacious and comfortable - I enjoyed sitting out there one night watching both the lake parade and Bedtime Stories (playing on a large screen at the beach area).

I was in love with the square sinks - and yes, they drain better than you would think that they would!! The separate toilet room is wonderful. I'm also glad they decided to put in sliding doors - such a room saver. The downside was that there wasn't a lot of room to put toiletries. The shelving at the Wilderness Lodge was much better.

It was nice to have the quick service not only in the same building, but also super close to all rooms. I wish it was open later, though! We would come back from Extra Magic Hours after midnight dying for a drink, but the drink machines were shut off. They must find a way to work that 24/7! The noise from Chef Mickey's was inaudible in our room.

We will definitely be staying here again!

Pros: location, new room design
Cons: not Bay Lake Towers

We decided to wrap up our trip with a Magic Kingdom view room after 3 nights at Animal Kingdom Lodge -Jambo House, and 5 nights at the Beach Club. Great view and awesome being so close to the Magic Kingdom. We were shocked at the great accomodations with sleek, modern design of dark wood, marble floors in the hallway and bathroom, and overall design. Felt like a big city suite. Enjoyed room service that night with a great view. Very good menu with items from one of their better restaurants. Kids enjoyed burgers and tenders, wife loved the salmon, and I really liked the short ribs. Enjoyed breakfast at the quick serve restaurant in the morning. The only thing that felt a little different was the service in the marketplace and quick serve restaurant. Cast members not as high quality as DVC resorts.

Pros: Beauitful rooms and location!
Cons: construction

We stayed here for 2 weeks march 09'. We have been to CR before, and are big fans, but always in the tower. This was our first stay in the south garden. We had 2 different rooms and loved them both. 1st room was gv., We got our request of 3rd floor. our room was next to the large suite on the end. Great location. We could watch the water pagent at WL & CR. Very nice lake / beach view. The walk is not bad at all. And it was very quiet in this room. Not many people go way down to the last hall. The pool area was a breeze, right out the stair way and your on the beach. The best mousekeeping we have ever had at CR! Towel animals every day.
We then moved and recieved 1st floor (requested 3rd floor) and had the deluxe room which is on the 1st bend when you enter from the tower building. It is a large suite. Kinda in L shape. The bathroom, was huge. Had the 2 sinks, tub/ shower combo & another standing shower. There was alot of extra room in there. Also extra is an area across from the closet area > it is another storage area cabinet with mirror. The sitting area of the room has a couch that opens to a large bed, coffee table with chairs, Very large tv with dvd, and king sized bed with usual tables. There are 2 sets of patio doors with a wrap around patio. Sis found the couch bed uncomfortable. and the down side to this room, is location. The sidewalk runs very near the room & when the curtains are open you can easily see in clearly. Also, the inside hall, families would get split up and yell to each other outside our door constantly. It was very noisy from the hall.
I put construction down, as a draw back: which was the pool work the was in progress when we where there. It was just a little inconvient or noisy.

Pros: Location is amazing, rooms are nice
Cons:

We have stayed at nearly all Disney resorts, and this is by far one of the best. The staff is amazing, the views are great, and the monorail is the most convenient thing to have in your hotel. The sinks are for sure flat, but I just ended up putting my things in the back of the sink. There was a lot of room for my toiletries, and the space in the shower was amazing. Would for sure stay here over and over.

Pros: close proximity to monorail and Magic Kingdom
Cons: long walk from monorail to room when we were tired

Our 25th anniversary family vacation was awesome! We stayed at the Contemporary from June 7-13, 2009. The resort was clean and all the staff was great! They were working on some of the pool area, but it did not detract from our fun at the pool. The slide was so fun! Our 'magical' experience was all we could hope for. The meet and greet in Toon Town was a moment we will never forget. When it was discovered that it was our 25th anniversary, and there was not anyone waiting behind us, the doors were closed and we had 20-25 minutes of uninterrupted, quality time with Cinderella, Belle and Aurora. We will never forget the looks on our granddaughters faces (ages 4 and 7) when they talked and took exclusive photos with each of the princesses! My husband and I were crying with JOY!! Thank you Contemporary, WDW and the princesses for making our 25th soo special!! We will come back!

Pros: Location, View
Cons: None, maybe the food court

We stayed at the Contemporary from June 11th - 19th and had a wonderful experience. We stayed in the Tower, 10th floor on the Gift Shop side. There was NO noise, the room was very clean, and Mousekeeping was prompt every day. The beds and the pillows are the most comfy ever! We had a MK view and watched Wishes nearly every night from our balcony. You can even turn the TV on Channel 20 and hear the Music from Wishes! Access to MK is via a short 10 min walk, and you can't beat the monorail access. You never have to wait in line to get back to your room - just walk!

The new food court could use a little more variety, but the things we did have from there were good.

I would highly recommend this resort, especially to families with small children who will spend a lot of time at Magic Kingdom.

Pros: Location and Convenience
Cons: none

I just returned from a 7 night stay at this resort and it was WONDERFUL! I've been to Disney many times and stayed at moderate, value and other deluxe resorts but this is my favorite!

First of all, location and convenience cannot be beat. You are only steps away from the monorail and bus lines (which by the way are non existent here!). We were 8th floor on gift shop side and never heard any noise, we were about 5 doors down from elevator and the elevator takes you directly to 4th floor which has: 3 gift shops, monorail, two restaurants AND the food court. We've stayed at many other resorts as mentioned before but you always have a two mile hike to breakfast in the food court--lets just say my family was thrilled to have the food court literally steps away!

The room was very clean, extremely large (we had family meet us at our room who were at other resorts and they were amazed by room size) and we had a Bay Lake View which was awesome--we watched the electrical water pageant several times during our stay, in our pj's from our balcony! Sinks are large and not much room for storage but look below--large shelf right underneath giving plenty of storage.

Pool area was under construction but pools were very nice, very large and not crowded at all. The construction, other than being a little noisy, did not bother us at all. EAch afternoon was a pool party with music and games for the kids. A snack bar near pool made it convenient to get a quick lunch without having to go into resort.

Room cleaning was complete every day by the time we returned from parks which was usually about 2:00 pm--unlike our stay last year at a moderate--1/2 of the time the room was not cleaned until after 3:00. I really liked that aspect of coming back to a clean/comfortable room each day.

Food court was convenient and food was good. Stanley was teriffic and remembered our family each time we went down, even if we went down separately.

To sum up, don't worry about all of these reviews, you will have a GREAT time at the Contemporary and you will find it much more relaxing than other resorts simply due to location and convenience of having everything under one roof. My one complaint, if I had to choose something, is that only laundry room is in the South Wing so I had to lug my laundry back and forth from main building to south wing, 2nd floor, other than that NO COMPLAINTS!

Pros: Location, location, location
Cons: Just not as beautiful as other deluxe resorts

The location is everything for this resort. If you don't care about being close to MK and Epcot, then don't stay here. If location really matters, I would choose the Grand Floridian or Polynesian - they're much prettier. However, Chef Mickey's and California Grill are great experiences and fabulous food. We had a wonderful trip. The staff was helpful and the room was clean. We were on the 6th floor on the Chef Mickeys side and had no problem with the noise - we did bring a white noise machine though, because we had 3 kids - 6, 4, and 7 months. Anyway, it must have worked because, for once, my kids slept in!

And, by the way, for those of you who already have reservations at the Contemporary, don't worry, you will have a wonderful time! We did!
