Wait to get seated kinda long
|
|
Spur of the moment day-trip for Sunday 9/4 led to a bit of a dining scramble (We need the sitdown time of a table service) and we opted for Sci-Fi because it was available for dinner and because we'd eaten there a few times over the years and found it alright.
We arrived for 7:05pm ADR about 5 minutes early and waited quite awhile for a table, it was after 7:20 when our name was finally called and a somewhat hungry group made this a bit annoying.
Once we were seated though, everything was better, our party of two adults and a 3-year old was seated in a car with 2 rows instead of three, which was great because we didn't have to share with another group, and the three of us in one row would have been kinda tight (if this was the reason for our wait. . .then TOTALLY worth it!)
Sci-Fi is hands-down the greatest restaurant ever for kids that have been at Disney since rope drop without a nap. They can pretend to "drive" the car, they can make a little noise without the next car being bothered and there are "movies" going on in front of them to provide adequate distraction. Service was awesome, our waiter, Tony, was great, particularly engaging with the 3-year old, and was great during the whole visit.
Food was very good, I had the Italian Chicken sandwich, the other adult had the reuben, 3-year old had the cheeseburger. Onion rings as an appetizer were easy to share and tasted awesome (I said we've been there before. . .been the "passing artichoke dip between three rows of car" route. . .NOT especially fun) sandwiches were
good, dessert was great, we got hot fudge sundae and cheesecake, which was only listed as "Cheesecake" on the dessert menu, but turned out to be red-velvet cheesecake, with layers of red velvet cake between the cheesecake layers, which made up for the cupcake I missed earlier. Score! (even IF three year old ate more than half)
All in all, great experience, we've heard mixed things about the food, but have found as long as you stick to simple fare, you can have a great meal here, and the drive-in experience is such a hoot between the sci-fi movies and the atmosphere of being at a drive in theater, combine this with exceptional service from our waiter, Tony (seriously, ask for this guy, just remember, its time. . .to get refreshment.) and its just a really great dining experience.

Kids loved it and so did we. We book here every year. Reservations highly recommended. We love sitting in the car and watching the big screen like we're in a drive-in. The food is great. The past two years I've gotten the ribs with mashed potatoes and cole slaw. Unfortunately, they are discontinuing the ribs. Very upset. KEEP THE RIBS. I highly recommend this place. It's really cool.

Menu options, wait times

The menu for this restaurant has gone significantly downhill. The menu has very little options, and is WAY overpriced for what you get. We had a dining reservation and still waited over 1/2 hour to get a table. Also, after all that waiting, why don't they at least play something on the screen that people are interested in watching (perhaps play a movie more people are familiar with, or even 'Lost in space' reruns?) Overall not worth the wait OR the money.

Food was good. Atmosphere was great. Service was good. Hostess was not very caring. We were seated in one of the small cars. We are not huge people but not tiny. the cars were very cramped and the hostess did not seem to care. she told us it's either here or wait another 30 minutes to an hour. But we didn't want the one hostess to ruin the whole expierence. so as the old motto goes.... Grin and bear it.

Sitting in the car was such fun for the kids. They thought it was great that they got to sit in the front and mom and dad had to sit in the back. I booked the reservation for the atmosphere but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. DH had the shrimp pasta and loved it! I was pleased with the chicken sandwich and the kids were happy with their choices, especially the milkshakes. Waiter was very attentive and helpful.

Have eaten here several times over the year. Most recently on 8/25/11. Never a disappointment. I had the burger, Hubby had the reuban. Both were great. Always enjoy the movies. Waitress offered to take our picture. Had a great time.

The food is not very good but it's just so much fun! The onions rings are really good. We split the chicken sandwich and it was not very good. But we'd probably go back!

You are definitely are paying for the atmosphere here. This was the kids pick of the trip. They love the car and the movies. That said the food is just way too average. It is very fast food like and not very flavorful. The milkshakes were not homemade and were very processed tasting. We tried Reubens and the shrimp pasta and they were just okay. At that point of the meal someone cranked down the thermostat and we all were freezing as were neighboring tables. Bring a sweater with you if you go. The best part of the meal was dessert. The Peanut Butter-Chocolate Cake was enjoyed by several of us while the rest enjoyed the apple crumble.
I must say though that our waiter was awesome and went out of his way to take care of us and try and direct us toward the right choices. He also was very professional in cleaning up a spill and was prompt with refills and checking in on us. This appeared to be a typical experience from those around us.

My kids loved the atmosphere, they sat in the 'front seats' and watched the retro drive in clips the whole time. We got desserts with our meals, they were delicious. Really cool concept and fun, something different!

Ate here Aug.5/11 with DH, 3DS (14,2,2). Kids loved sitting in cars and watching the clips. Food was good and milkshakes were excellent. Really liked that our server had our kids meal split in two for our twins, even split their drink and dessert. This was the only restaurant we ate at in 10 days that offered to do that. The twins are not quite 2 yrs old and it is such a waste to order 2 meals for them but many places made us feel cheap as we were purchasing only one meal. Not here.

This was our 4th and final visit. The food still isn't any better, don't know why we keep trying. Mom and Dad had a cheeseburger(bland and boring), I had a chicken sandwich(inedible), My older cousin had the ribs(very good), and my younger cousin had a hot dog(meh). The ribs were the only thing edible besides the milkshakes. Try the 50's Prime Time instead.

We manage to eat here every visit to the studios. We have not been disappointed. The three of us ordered the butcher steak which comes with a red wine sauce mashed potatoes and green beans. The meal is always good and reasonably priced for a steak at Disney. Server was outstanding, never did we wait for a refill on vanilla cokes. For a fun atmosphere and good food, don't miss this place.

We ate here on our recent trip to WDW in July 2011. It was our first time eating here. We had a great time. The concept is really interesting and unique. There is a giant screen and you sit in "cars" like in a drive in theater. It is a little dark, but there are lights on your "dash". The only down side was you have to sit two in each seat of the car, so our family of 5 was in a line, rather than able to sit and see each other. The food was good- they were willing to work with me and provide other vegetarian options. My kids loved the concept. My 3 year old was a little bit intimidated by some of the "monster" on the screen, but they also had a few cartoons thrown in too. Our waitress was friendly and took pictures of us in our car. We had an enjoyable experience and would definitely eat here again!

This is one restaurant we always visit at least once each visit to WDW -- everybody's favorite! Our waitress was very helpful and pointed out what we could get on the dining plan (and even pointed out that the shrimp pasta could be prepared with chicken instead of shrimp). She also kept our drinks refilled. We love sitting in the cars and watching the old movie trailers and intermission commercials. It took awhile to get our food out to us but when we got it, it was delicious! Two of us had the ribs which were very tender and delicious and the other two had burgers which were also delicious. As always the desserts were the highlight of the meal for us. I think SciFi has the best ice cream anywhere on WDW property!
I highly recommend this restaurant!!
