Our travel dates to Disney were 2/12-16/12. Overall, our fourth vacation to Disney was a wonderful time. As I mention in the "cons", something was missing from this hotel, and I think I've determined it is the "Disney magic". Were it not for the gift store and everyone walking around with Disney resort refillable mugs, I would quickly forget I was at Disney. I'm not sure if that's the intent or not.
The lobby is under construction, so arrival and any time spent in the lobby area was underwhelming. We only ate breakfast in the cafeteria, and the food is average, at best.
Our room was located at the farthest end of Building 1, just far enough at the end of a long day to wish we were in a better location, but it was quiet, and we never heard noise from other rooms or from outside. The room itself was nicely renovated. Although we didn't use it, it is a nice touch to have a refrigerator in the room. We only had a towel character on the day of our arrival (done daily, this really does contribute to the "Disney magic" mentioned above). The double sink was great. If you like liquid soap, I recommend bringing a small hand soap with you. My husband was disappointed small lotions weren't provided as most other hotels will do. I also recommend bringing an outlet extender if you require multiple outlets for curling iron, electric toothbrush, hairdryer (although one is provided), etc, as there is only one outlet in the vanity area. I also packed a small plug-in nightlight that gave just enough glow with the curtain drawn each night.
The lights in the room are incredibly bright. Dimmer switches would make very good additions to the rooms. Having the nightlight really helped. I couldn't find Disney Junior on TV in the mornings, which was unbelievable. Thankfully, we could watch shows through our iPad on the TV, otherwise, there was no kid programming available.
The bus operators are excellent at their jobs and very friendly. I experienced a shift change twice during our stay and the departing employee made a point to say goodbye, which I thought was very nice. One of the selling points for French Quarter is its small size and single bus stop. Well, single bus stop at French Quarter, but most buses also pick up through Riverside, which has FOUR stops. So plan on adding another 10-15 minutes to every bus ride circling through Riverside. This is a major downside, from our perspective. I did read about the Riverside bus route on this forum, I just wasn't expecting it to take quite so long, or be as annoying as it was.
The resort does have a nice playground area for kids that appeared in great condition. Our kids, and the others playing, really enjoyed letting loose after a long day in the parks.
Most reviewers on this site really enjoy this hotel, but it's difficult for me to find the same level of enthusiasm for this property. For our next trip to Disney, we'll definitely explore another Disney resort.
