Oh my goodness!!! This was our second visit to WDW and our first stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We got a Arusha Savannah view room and it was amazing. We were lucky enough to have a feeding spot right in front of our room. So every morning bright and early there were a few cm's laying out food on the rock right outside in front of our balcony. We were on the second floor and were a little bummed about it until we saw the view. It was PERFECT!!!! The animals came very close and some of the giraffes would look at us and strike a pose. At night we would have all sorts of animals sleeping near our view. The room was very roomy we had a set of bunk beds which was great. The pool was great and we loved the kiddie pool which was near the outdoor eating area. Transportation to and from the parks wasn't too bad. We would wait about 10-15min for the bus and then no more than a 15-20min to the various parks.
Our drawbacks were few and then again it could be we were the ones being too demanding, but then again I don't think so not for the price we paid. On our very first day when we arrived we had two rooms booked and had asked for adjoining room or rooms close to each other. At check in we were not only on different floors but in opposite wings. They were unable to change this that day but we were told that they could move one group to be closer the following day. That was fine with us. While we waited for our luggage to be delivered, we just explored the hotel. It took well over the three hour time frame for our luggage to finally arrive. When it did, we were given our own luggage plus luggage that wasn't ours but belonged to our family in a different room. When I informed the Bell Man of this and politely asked if he could deliver it to my Grandmother in her room his response was "I just came from there and she said her bag wasn't with the ones I delivered. I told her to call the bell desk to find it. You can take it to her if you like." I was shocked by his rudeness and just informed him I would take the bag myself. After he unloaded our luggage, he waited at the door hand out for a tip. I just couldn't believe this.
Our next bit was at the concierge desk. We asked about golfing as my husband is an avid golfer and anxious to go for a quick round or two this time around. Not only were we informed that the concierge had no knowledge of any of the golf course but she was completely unhelpful with booking a tee time or helping with transportation. Her excuse for her lack of knowledge was "Disney isn't going to be owning them anymore." We ended up dealing with calling the WDW reservations line for help.
To save time in the mornings, we would have breakfast at the Mara, which is the quick service dining option. When we were looking for it, we found Boma easily and the cm waiting there informed us that AK only had two restaurants and that was Boma and the only right across from it (I forget the name). Also that we could take the shuttle to the Sanaa at Kidani Village. After my husband went looking, he found Mara. The first few days it was ok but after that we ventured further looking for a wider selection of food. It was very limited there any time. We expected a wider variety of food choices. I mean we stayed at the All Star Movie resort last time and we always ate in the QSR they had. It offered a huge variety of different items. That was the biggest let down.
Over all we had a great trip. We will definitely stay here again.
