2012 Epcot Flower & Garden Festival, and Hidden Mickeys

March is a colorful time of year at Epcot! Mickey greets you at the main entrance.

All Ears Leader Deb Wills told me of a Hidden Mickey in the Haiti exhibit. "Haiti: Garden of Many Colors" is a new garden exhibit next to the Germany Pavilion in World Showcase. At the rear of the Haiti area is a painting of a large van.

A white Hidden Mickey is on the right front fender!

And yes, Mater has arrived in Japan!

However, he somehow lost his Hidden Mickey wing nut. Mater usually has a wing nut with ears on top of his engine air cleaner (shown below on a previous Mater at California Adventure).

Whenever I'm in Epcot's Japan, I pay my respects to some of my favorite rocks anywhere on Disney property.

I caught a performance of "Off Kilter" in the Canada Pavilion. They played two of my favorite Off Kilter songs: "Dirty Old Town" and "Amazing Grace." (The latter song is the #1 most requested bagpipes song, as I'm sure any bagpipes musician will tell you).

Along the Imagination Walkway, the sand sculptors were busy, but they'll still answer your questions!

This amazing sand sculpture highlights the "Disneynature Chimpanzee" film that will help celebrate Earth Day 2012.

Check out these Mickey bushes in the kids' area "Let's Get Moving," located along the Imagination Walkway.

I hope you can visit Epcot to enjoy this great Festival!

All Ears December to Remember - Parting Thoughts

I had great fun at Deb Wills' and All Ears December to Remember Events - 4 full days packed with activities and meeting up with old and new friends to celebrate 15 years online with All Ears. I led Hidden Mickey tours of the Kidani Village Resort. Our central gathering area was a spacious Kidani Village Villa, which was filled with smiling people and tasty snacks. Here's a photo of Mike Scopa and me.

AllEars December to Remember Celebration

I pointed out a Hidden Mickey in the woodwork on a tabletop inside Sanaa Restaurant.

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights comes to life this time of year. It's fun to look high and low for Hidden (and decor) Mickeys in the Osborne Lights.

Each year, I like to spot the Hidden Mickeys on the helmet of the nutcracker figure who strolls around Epcot's Germany Pavilion.

I was privileged to hear Don "Ducky" Williams speak of his long career as an illustrator and character artist with the Disney Company. Of course, he's forever attached to our favorite Duck, but he can draw just about anything!

He admitted that a few of his most difficult subjects were Spaceship Earth (because of the large number of panels with varying shades), Pocahontas (because her face is angular yet feminine and one imperfect line could ruin the effect), and the Disney Cruise Ships (because of the intricate architectural detail). In fact, he said that he often covers part of the cruise ship to make his task less challenging. In this painting, Ariel's hair hides the rear of the ship.

Deb Wills reminisced with us in an upper room of the American Adventure Pavilion. None of us will ever forget December to Remember!

Epcot Flower & Garden Festival - 2011

Every year, I look forward to checking out the Epcot Spring and Fall Festivals. Disney works to add new experiences for us and enhance the ones we know and love. For example, the butterfly-net area in Future World is larger and more intricate this year. As I wandered past Innoventions Plaza in Future World, I soon encountered topiaries of Winnie the Pooh and friends, a teaser for the new Disney animated movie due in theaters this summer.

I searched Future World for Mickey images and was happy to see colorful classic Mickeys in the landscaping to the right of the bridge to World Showcase.

As I walked left toward the Mexico Pavilion from the central bridge to World Showcase, I passed by the Duffy the Disney Bear gazebo and then spotted Mickey holding Duffy outside the Disney Traders store. All Duffy Bears have classic Mickeys on the bottoms of their feet.

As I approached the miniature train exhibit in the Germany pavilion, I saw several folks in front of me stop and point. At the right side of the train exhibit, a new tower rose from the ground and awed me and others around me. It was the tower from the movie "Tangled."

For the Epcot spring festival, there's usually a sand sculpture somewhere in Future World. This year, the gorgeous sculpture is highlighting the upcoming Disneynature film: African Cats, due for release on Earth Day, April 22, 2011.
